Looks like old Tel has chosen t oday to announce his long awaited retirement from the radio 2 brekkie show-with CHRIS EVANS SET TO REPLACE HIM,SOMETIME BETWEEN now and March.Simon Mayo joinms radio 2 daytime line up with Terry Wogan moving to a n ew weekend slot.I Wonder if Terry chose today to make the big announcement to steal some of Moyles thunder? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/cult ... -host.html

Congratulations on providing some evidence to back your claim (albeit the Torygraph).

Having said that, though, have you read the article? Wogan hasn't announced anything and there is nothing on the BBC web site. All that article says is 'reports suggest'. They're not new reports either; the same suggestion was made by Graun in April:
Although no contracts have been signed, the general assumption is that, within two years, Mayo will be doing Radio 2 drivetime instead of Chris Evans, who will step in at breakfasts on 2, with Sir Terry Wogan moving to weekends. This would be a rare broadcasting reshuffle in which everyone gets a slot they want, with the only dangling question being whether Mayo will continue with Kermode.

I think it's great news; someone very listenable on the radio for when Chris is off and a great drivetime show.

True (although he still has couple of attempts left) but he might well be looking forward even more to beating Chris Evans (after the whole Live with... episode) and with the expected reaction of older Wogan listeners he may well do that.

Guess there might be some crossover with those older listeners who remember Evans on R1 and might be tempted to switch to R2 but he may never have a better chance to be the number 1 breakfast show than Q1 2010.

See this is great, Mayo on Drive as a brilliant alternative to the horrible radio 1 offering and Evans on breakfast for when Chris is off and they still insist on using Mills even though it blatantly doesn't work. I'm a happy bunny.

Well I had to say it separately or people might think I agreed with you, and that would never do.

My mum is an avid radio 2 listener and she was really annoyed when Evans took over drivetime, but she warmed to him quite quickly, so I suspect other Wogan fans might have the same reaction. I'll give him a go when Moyles is on holiday, definitely.

Must admit, this does make Radio 2 much more appealing to me now.

God I'm * old. That's another marker for "old" I'm ticking.

That aside, I think if Moyles (I hate referring to him by his surname but it's going to make life easier for the rest of this paragraph) doesn't manage to beat Wogan in the ratings before the end of the year he'll be a tad disappointed. But now I think that won't happen because this announcement will probably give Ol' Tel a boost while he winds down. Then when Evans comes in (this is where referring to "Chris" makes no sense) there will be a bit of fluctuation as those who love Wogan stop listening while Evans brings in his own audience. I wouldn't be surprised if Moyles becomes top dog. And while I think Moyles would love to beat Evans in the ratings given their previous history together, I don't think it will be the same as beating Wogan.

I don't think Chris (Moyles) will beat Wogan now as his ratings will only go up now people will tune into him for the last few months.

I think he will beat Evans in the first and probably second quarter next year though as the TOGS get slightly cheesed off with a youngster. Of course it could go the other way as well as the slightly older generation who listen to Moyles because Wogan is slightly dufferish now have another quality breakfast choice on the BBC. Should be interesting either way.

Good to see Mayo back too, his 5live show is superb - hopefully Kermode will follow him over to 2 as well. Wonder if Colin Murray will take over the 1-4 slot on 5live as he's been a good fill in for Simon in the past

He was unrepentant about stealing Chris Moyles' headlines on the day his rival became the longest-serving breakfast DJ on Radio 1.

"Yes, a pretty nasty trick of mine," he laughed. "He'll blame me forever. He's broken Tony Blackburn's record - it's a proud boast."

It's nice that they can joke about it (Chris and Terry) It's good that any rivalry between the two has been friendly.

Has Chris joked about it though? I hope he'll have something to say about this tomorrow, I think it's unbelievable that the BBC let this happen as it's totally put Chris' achievement in the shadows. I'd be mighty pissed of at Wogan if I was him, he totally stole Chris' thunder today and I don't think it was a coincidence...

Exactly, the press leaked it early (The Torygraph I believe), I don't think it was due to be announced until October time. If anything they're to blame, I wonder if they did it on purpose ;) (n.b. Bradcali, notice the ;) smilie, that means I'm joking so don't take it out of context!)

This is good news, I agree a good alternative listening to Chris Evans when Chris is off, can avoid Mills excellent.

As for Wogan trying to steal Moyles's thunder, if he meant it or not it has been all over the news, and at 6pm and 10pm news, have been about Wogan leaving and nothing about Chris breaking the record, even Radio 5 on Simon Mayo's show there was a discussing about Wogan leaving with Mark Radcliffe, its been all about Wogan all day, must say if I was Chris I would be a bit pissed off

There are dark murmerings that certain BBC execs are unhappy with the Evans/Moyles clash at breakfast.Theyre worried that both shows will be chasing the same audience.Im worried this could give them the excuse they needed to get rid of Moyles. and replace him with a kiddies presenter like Reggie Yates:(
