People are so gullible - why on earth would anyone actually think that not only is it mathematically possible toaccurately predict the lottery, but that an end of the pier entertainer would be the first person to do it? And of course he didn't explain how he actually did it, he is a trickster, that's what he does, he deceives his audience. Why would this be any different?

Pretty much what Sidders said.

control the nation will be an odd one - he'll need to actually make it decent, but he can't hypnotise through the television due to legal issues, so i'm guessing it'll be a similar vein of disappointment

The first half of this blogpost is an interesting take on it (the second half is an interesting take on something else.)

Whilst he may well not have been telling the truth, I enjoyed it and will be watching on Friday.

I was at work so couldn't receive his weekly vomitload of pish, so what was the general opinion of this week's obscene garbage? Was anyway actually stuck to their chair?

There was one good segment where he brought this women into hamleys store and she choose a toy which he influenced her decision and he showed how, that was kinda believable but the rest of the show was a pile of garbage! He had a bunch of people in a cinema but they looked to be straight out of an infomercial, i liked his other shows the heist etc, but the past two weeks have been brutal!!

Broadcasting subliminal messages either visual or audio are still illegal so I don't know what he was attempting. I actually think that these 'explanantions' in both shows so far are of a quality which really hasn't moved on from his last couple of series. He's obviously decided to go down the route of buildup/payoff but none of it seems plausible enough to be entertaining.

I'd also agree that the audiences he co-opts all seem too eager to go along with it all. Maybe setting off the fire alarm would have better demonstrated who was really stuck to their seat.

My right arm did become strangely very heavy, but not too heavy to be able to lift.

Also i saw a picture of a man tied to a chair. it flashed up a couple of times while he was talking, and the number 7 seemed to appear while the film was playing, although I'm not sure if that bit was just my mind.

Even if the film didn't do as intended, he still got us all to sit in that particular way, before it started.

I didn't get stuck, but then I wasn't watching and concentrating as intently as would have been required, I had one eye on the computer. It's pretty obvious that you'd have to really want to get stuck to convince yourself that you were.

I did just read somewhere that subliminal messaging is legal if the programme announces its presence at the beginning and end of the broadcast, as Derren did very clearly. But I don't know the exact structure of those rules.

I do think that so far this set of programmes haven't been as good as Derren's previous stuff. I have loved him for years now and I'm wondering if maybe he's just exhausted the ways in which it's possible to show off his skills in a tv show setting. I personally thought the bit where he was being the homeless guy was the most interesting part of the show.

If he makes comments like I'm going to predict the lottery or I'll make you stick to your chair then people will watch just to see if it is true. Does it really matter if it is a load of wank? You will still watch next weeks.

I think its only illegal in advertising - if the idea is to try to sell you something its illegal, but I can think of a few shows which have used subliminal messages as part of the theme over the years. The Young Ones used to do it, Reggie Perrin used to have sublominal flashes in, I think they've even used it in Blackadder? I might be imagining that one.

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv/ifi/codes/bcode/harmoffence/section2.pdf"Broadcasters must not use techniques which exploit the possibility of conveying a message to viewers or listeners, or of otherwise influencing their minds without
their being aware, or fully aware, of what has occurred."

He did forewarn us so maybe that's okay. Those Young Ones flashes were easily perceptable to the 'concious' mind so weren't strictly subliminal. Channel 4 have only twice before ever had to investigate these ; Eurotrash and Chris Morris.
