The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Ok I know this site is fiercely defensive of CM, so please dont jump down my throat for this..

Does any feel that the show has shifted is focus towards a younger demographic over the last 3-6 months? I'm 32 and used to really enjoy the show (i listened every morning) however lately I find most of the content / music / guests almost, well.. childish. N Dubz and Mika for example... I mean this is real kids stuff and it makes me cringe how Chris acts like he loves them, when you know really Chris is the kind of guys who, were it not for job, would have nothing to do with the likes of N Dubz. The content in general seems to have been shifted towards younger listeners too.

Does anyone agree.. or am I just getting old (the latter is just as possible lol)?

Chris always took the piss out of N-Dubz before they came in the first time to promote One Big Weekend - then I think he was surprised how down to earth and nice they are, so he's much kinder about them now. I still don't think he likes the music. As for Mika, he was very funny.

I think its probably a bit of both mate. Chris has been critisised in the past for non target audience references, so it wouldn't supprise me if they are trying to pull the show slightly that way, in light of keeping Chris actually AT Radio 1. Personally I'd follow him to Radio 2 or whatever, as I don't pay much attention to the music anyway and listen for Chris, not the lastest Akon offering.

At the end of the day, we're not in the R1 target audience, which doesn't have to be a problem, but is something you need to understand and tollerate.

I totally agree. I like Chris and the team but cant be doing with the music and (most) of the guests. I find that at my age there isnt much for my demographic on BBC Radio. The Radio 1 breakfast show is as we've just said aimed at younger people than us, and Radio 2 (currently) has Mr Wogan, who I think its fair to say targets an audience a bit older than me. Maybe things will be better when Chris Evens arrives there - but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of his drive time show.

Sorry mate but you cant describe Dappy from N Dubz as 'down to earth'. Lets call a spade a spade here. the guy is a half whit. I'm mean.. a 'Dappy-hat' for f-sake? C'mon.. please.

Well, I don't agree with any of you. * the Demographic, come on, he was playing Camberwick green theme today, and the trials and tribulations of Dave and the team I think are reflective of people the teams age, which is us lot. I was pissed this morning that Aled put in that crap Mew York song instead of Paramore, but hey!

I think Jim you might be guilty of not being "up with kids" any more....... Like what I am "respect"

I wouldn't go so far as to call him a half wit.... Maybe his music isn't to your taste, but he's certainly achieved alot with N-Dubz - fashion preferences aside, he is your average 'yoof' who has actually applied himself to something beyond what he could have been. Yes, he looks like a council estate drug dealer, but I think if I had his tallent/money/oportunities, i'd dress like a twat as well.....

Bad dress sence hasn't done Jonafan Woss/Graham Norton/Jeremy Clarkson any harm.

Give it 10-15 years, i'm sure Dappy will look back and cringe, but he is a product of our society.... At least he's achieved things beyond 'pushing dope' at the local high school/park.

I appreciate what you're saying, and also the way you've said it. But Dappy is a half-whit yob. The only reason he's popular (and lets not for a second mistake popularity for talent!) is because people that make him popular are either half-whit yobs themselves, or think its cool to be a half whit yob and dress like their own council estate drug dealers.. who they no doubt look up to.

Word! Respec, and get down homey! lol

BRRRRAPP!!! BRRRRAPP!!! innit though!!

When asked by a caller if Dino and Tula would eventually hook up, Dino replied:

"What? We'd have one of those babies that look a bit funny because of an in-breeding situation..."

Lovely stuff.

Anyway, does a 'younger' audience actually exist any more for radio? I'd imagine that most are watching tv in the mornings or listening to their ipods on the way to school instead of tuning into the minutiae of 30-somethings.

To be fair the show has about 9 million listeners so Chris will have to have some guests that aren't his cup of tea.I did think it came across that didn't mind them though.Just for the record I think people like them are the bane of british music at the moment.

I like N Dubz and think Dappy seems a nice guy. I'm a half wit yob am I? I am also a grade A A-Level student with 13 GCSE's all but one are grade A* - B. I pride myself in talking standard English grammar, am 18 and have never smoked or took drugs and always dress smartly, in fact, I am totally the opposite of the person you have just described as a typical N Dubz fan.

With that post, you have made yourself appear considerably more foolish than the typical N Dubz fan you have described.

I actually got out of bed and went for a shower cos I couldn't stand listening to N-Dubz any longer. I don't have a thing in common with them and why should I? I'm almost 35, work in theatre and have pretty much always listened to heavy rock and metal music. I am not their target audience. But I understand why they have to be covered on radio 1 and on Moyles' show in particular, they are popular and it's part of his and the show's job to promote 'chart' music. I don't object to bands like that being on the show really, as we so often point out to the complainers, everyone can't like everything...

To answer the general question, I haven't particularly noticed the show being aimed at a younger audience. I think if I felt that strongly I wouldn't be listening anymore. I'm well out of R1 target market anyway so I appreciate that Chris, Dave et al are about my age and I still feel able to relate to them to an extent and enjoy their conversations.

Oh, JimLafleur, I like you. I liked you the last time you posted, and this "half whit yob" seals the deal. You're alright. I'm going off into the world and calling everyone today a half whit yob! Watch out boss lady.

I'm with nicola on this one. I'm a die-hard rocker too, so most of the music Radio 1 plays and the guests they have in annoy me. I could only take about five minutes of the N-Dubz interview before the 'yoof speek' irritated me to the point of making me want to smash my radio. BBC 6 Music is much better!

I also like his username. I believe it should be 'half wit', but I'm splitting hairs.
