Sorry mate but you cant describe Dappy from N Dubz as 'down to earth'. Lets call a spade a spade here. the guy is a half whit. I'm mean.. a 'Dappy-hat' for f-sake? C'mon.. please.

Heh. It's as if the kids nowadays have their own different culture to differentiate them from the larger culture in which they belong.

I wasn't going to correct. For all I knew, it was some weird British spelling I wasn't familiar with. ;)

There are currently two threads running on cm.net. One suggesting that the show is gearing up for a move to Radio 2 with it's old content, and the other that we've changed focus over the last few months to focus on our younger listeners.

Brilliant.

Damn you Aled, I was reading this thread and thinking that I would post that.......

I'm ancient and I like N-Dubz. They are funny, and clever I reckon. I have enjoyed the guests lately, I think we're still waiting for this season's first car-crash interview.

gah, right i'm an older member of the younger generation - and i don't agree with a lot of criticism thrown at n-dubz and the brief mention of dizzee. they may not appear to be upstanding members of society at first glance, but surely there's something of a media persona integrated into these interviews?

i actually find dizzee to be a great guest, with a fantastic sense of humour - and n-dubz while appearing 'yobbish', understand that they have an audience to which they have to relate, otherwise they wouldn't be half as successful as they are. and that's been a trend throughout music as far as i'm aware - an artist draws empathy using the music and the emotions of the audience, one that's evident in all forms of music.

Maybe they're an easier target because they have a wealth of arguments against them which can be followed on from youth culture arguments - but it's nothing new. The dialects used by youth may be looked down upon, but just because someone uses them doesn't change the content of their message.

Well not really Aled.

There is a thread that starts with those points, but you will see that most of the replies are dismissive or offer contrary views, any wally can start a thread with a daft assertion and it's what you guys pick up on.

Brilliant.

Well, we agree on something. Mark and Lard were brilliant, but it's pointless saying 'bring them back' because it's not going to happen. Besides, Mark Radcliffe's show on Radio 2 with Stuart Maconie is one of my favourite radio shows.

I cant stand Stuart Maconie!

I know it will never come back but its nice to dream and I havent listened to Radio one in the afternoons since they left.
Edith Bowman was just a disaster.

I appreciate what you're saying, and also the way you've said it. But Dappy is a half-whit yob. The only reason he's popular (and lets not for a second mistake popularity for talent!) is because people that make him popular are either half-whit yobs themselves, or think its cool to be a half whit yob and dress like their own council estate drug dealers.. who they no doubt look up to.

Word! Respec, and get down homey! lol

BRRRRAPP!!! BRRRRAPP!!! innit though!!

I like N Dubz and think Dappy seems a nice guy. I'm a half wit yob am I? I am also a grade A A-Level student with 13 GCSE's all but one are grade A* - B. I pride myself in talking standard English grammar, am 18 and have never smoked or took drugs and always dress smartly, in fact, I am totally the opposite of the person you have just described as a typical N Dubz fan.

With that post, you have made yourself appear considerably more foolish than the typical N Dubz fan you have described.

Geez, sorry.. I'll amend my original statement. *most of the* people that like him....

Mine too. This is one of the problems with the 'change of focus' discussion. BBC radio caters for almost all tastes across the dial so compartmentalising demographs into stations is unecessary when all the listener needs to do is press a button. They already have focus, all over the place.

I think this has now changed to a 'is Dappy a half-whit yob?' thread, and the general consensus appears to be a resounding yes.

keep your general consensus to yourself.

also Wit is a form of intellectual humour, and a wit is someone skilled in making witty remarks. Forms of wit include the quip and repartee.

Whit is a novel by the Scottish writer Iain Banks, published in 1995.

Thanks for the English pointers. I honestly didn't know if it was Whit, or Wit (there are many reference to both all over the net, it seems), but now you've pointed it out, 'Wit' would make more sense.

I don't see what a book featuring a religious cult and a character called Isis Whit has anything to do with this thread though??

Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, this is a public forum, so unless the admin guys have a problem with it, I'll continue to discuss my consensus freely.

Thank you very much :o How did the use of 'half Whit.. sorry, Wit, Yob' go down? Unfortunately I cant take credit for it... it's a common English saying.

For all intensive purposes either would get the message across.

I think the phrase you are looking for is "to all intents and purposes". Although its more fun if you use porpoises.
