For all intensive purposes either would get the message across.

I think the phrase you are looking for is "to all intents and purposes". Although its more fun if you use porpoises.

Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, this is a public forum, so unless the admin guys have a problem with it, I'll continue to discuss my consensus freely.

well my reference to the book was regarding your constant use of the word whit. it's a pretty easy conclusion to draw.

it is a public forum. We generally think dappy is a half whit apparantly. Before taking a general concensus and representing the forum's views directed to a CM team member, please take those who object to what you think into account as i wouldn't want such comments attributed to me.

Mocking the underclasses by using their dialect in a derogatory way isn't very effective and has the connotations of someone who knows nothing about them, picking up on a few phrases and repeating them for their own pleasure.

i'll be happy to discuss my concensus that you're slightly ignorant and enjoy laughing in those who you percieve to be below you, when in fact they're probably more savvy in their own industry than you are in your own - which is why they are a national act when they could have just ended up performing in SUs around london.

Porpoises are still funny though.

I'd be more concerned with the repeated use of "my consensus"

He has no mandate for that so it's irrelevant.

But it's very effective for the purposes of nominal satisfaction. What 'effect' had you in mind?

How about mocking those we 'perceive' to be above us? Do your mocking ethics work in that direction?

a) The book has no relevance to what we're discussing. The word Whit wasnt even used in the same context.. its used as a character's surname. To mention it is totally irrelevant and serves no meaningful point what-so-ever.

b) Unless I'm mistaken, I've read the 40+ posts within this thread and only 2 have suggested any kind of tollenerce to Dappy, Indeed many more have agreed he is irritating / annoying.. hence my use of the term 'general consensus'. NOT unanimous verdict.. General Consensus.

c) Are you seriously complaining about my jovial dig at the way Dappy speaks when he is trying soooooo hard to speak like an American gangsta / rasta in the first place, and nothing like how people speak where he actually comes from - Great Britain! I mean come on - this guy could be Tim Westwood's secret love-child.

d) Unless I'm mistaken and the quality of their gigs has improved in the last few months (and I may well be mistaken, as I dont follow them).. dont this 'national act' play in venues up and down the country such as Butlins??? Hardly the huge 'national act' you're suggesting.

e) I bet you have a Dappy poster on your bedroom wall, dont you? Go on, admit it..

Do you want me to e-mail you my new Dappy Av? You can use it if you like.

PS.. Mr Man Nips... How do I do the cleaver quoting were I quote parts of text and then reply to it?? :?:

I don't know how other people do it but i put the code in manually instead of just clicking on "quote". I bet there are quicker ways, but it works for me.

Quote my post (for example) and you'll see the quote tags have been put in manually...with a cleaver.

Well, i quote the whole thing first then break it up manually. Does that make sense? I don't know the right words for these things.

Typos are tolerated pretty well. Constant sloppiness and basic lack of care is a different matter, as some people have found.

a) you were contantly using the word whit which doesn't exist in the context you were trying to use it. i was pointing out your spelling error.

b) many of the '40+ posts' to which you refer are either you or not about dappy, so to use them as proof of a 'general consensus' would be misguided or stupid (take your pick)

c)If you're referring to their accent (which isn't something i mentioned, i drew attention to your criticism of his dialect) then you're right. the accent which formed in the original US ghettos was adapted through many urban areas in the UK, but this was at least 7-8 years ago, and now they are present in what some may describe as 'ghetto' areas of the UK - so what began as articificial became organic. i would think it misguided to generalise how 'people from the UK' speak, as in areas (such as london) there are so many different accents and dialects floating about that there are many combinations available.

d) If you're really trying to denounce an act who just won 2 MOBO awards as nothing but a butlins act, then you aren't worth debating with - i've seen them live and they work the crowd well, while performing their songs which i think are good in their own genre. Clearly anyone who performs at butlins is a regional affair.

e) i do not have a dappy poster on my bedroom wall.

It intrigues me that the first reference for the word 'Whit' was a character in a book and not the Christian holiday. Just an observation...

Brrraaappp brrraaappp! For real yea, ch get me?

I actually think that N-dubz and Dizzy are good guests. Of course they are aimed at younger folks than most of us, and I think, first time Chris was due to interview them he probably (this is not fact, just my impression from how he talked about n-dubz before meeting them, as Topher mentioned earlier) thought 'this ain't really my cuppa tea'. They all play along and give good banter, which makes the interviews good. Not a huge fan of that style of music, but when talking to Chris they are just have a good ol joke and a chat. Its all good. Except for the people who seem to hate them :)

Brilliant.

So are you saying there is no change whatsoever in the demotarget?

i'm saying you can't please everyone!

Radio 1 has always been a BBC radio station aimed 15-24 or 15-30 year olds. NDubz and Dizzee have fans across all those ages but are mainly appreciated by the younger end of our audience. My point is we'll have guests that appeal to the older half of our demographic and some that appeal to our younger end. Please don't read too much into that.

But Chris dismissed Charlie Higson out of hand recently...isn't he one of the guests who would appeal to the older half? :(
