Technically this was English Bob's turn, but I don't suppose he'll mind me doing it?

OK... seeing as I chose last week, Cat has chosen 1976.

I am having trouble this week... I am choosing between two ELO songs and two 10cc songs.

I'm going for Livin' Thing by ELO, but 10cc's The Things We Do For Love was a close second.

Rod Stewart - The Killing of Georgie (Parts I & II)

If you don't know this song, listen to the words. Brave song for 1976 and a true story (apart from the year - he sings 75 for rhyming when it was actually 74).

I was about to go with the obvious Anarchy in the UK, but as always I can't resist the combination of melody, lyric and a fabulous vocalist - so Julie Covington singing Don't Cry For Me Argentina. the original and BEST.

(Ha, I'm listening to it now and I just can't help singing along - WHAT a TUNE!)

The video is virtually non existent for the studio version (just a picture of an album)but a tune this great doesn't need a video

Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town - reached no 8

Nice 'un Jonno.

Oh I feel sorry for the muggles born into the current generation with their MTVs and LadyGaga's pokerface and being told by some thigh-jiggling amazonian that if you liked something you shoulda put a ring on it. Twin-guitar rock is where it was at, coming atchya from Top of the Pops, Tiswas and whispering Bob - no interwebs. So I'm gonna get amongst the riff-fest and also vote rock madheads Thin Lizzy - The Boys are Back in Town.

Here's a vid to see what an afro'd oirish black rockgod looks like in action.

Ok, this song was released in the UK in 75 but was still around in 76 (it was also released in America in 76).
My pick this week is -

what a crap year for music.

I'll be honest there's not as many there that I like for this particular year & when I searched there wasn't much I liked from this year so I'm glad that someone hadn't chose Thin Lizzy as Topher already got ELO.
