I feel the need to reply. Not because I'm sensitive (you broadcast to 9 million with the text console on in the studio - you CAN'T be sensitive!) but because I don't want anyone walking around being what I believe is ignorant if they think not knowing certain meats and cheeses make you thick or a dunce.
I don't know why I didn't know that. I'll avoid having a go at my parents because I love them and think they did an amazing job in the way they brought me up. As for an adult I have an incredibly small menu of food. I have one meal for each type of restaurant I go to. Rightly or wrongly that doesn't make me thick. Just un-cultured, and I'm fine with that. If I wasn't fine I'd experiment more.
How do I get to be a producer on Radio 1? - by loving and being good at my job hopefully. I don't read newspapers. I do however read a magazine a day, Economist, Focus, Private Eye, Empire, Broadcast, Music Week, T3, Stuff Heat etc but no, none on food - because I have no interest in food. Also, I have several dozen website on daily browse (again, none food based) and when it comes to tv, American trash, Question time and rolling news for me (no food programmes).
Are we really judging someone's overall ability and intelligence by how much food knowledge they have?
I work very hard and when I'm not working I'm with my other half, so I don't have time to pay attention to other people's eating habits or stop at the deli counter and ask about certain foods (I get it delivered: again, due to time constraints).
Hope that helps give a bit more insight
and hopefully stop those 'worrying' about me
