The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

No - I can't get past how its such an incosiderate thing to do to some probably stupidly busy person who is just trying to do their job. I'm not a fan of laughing at people who haven't offered themselves as public entertainment. Apart from Bradcali and Wireman of course.

I agree totally. A few years ago a local radio station did this to us - prank calling a theatre box office, hilarious! My former colleague who answered the call was a lovely, patient lady who kept up her professionalism in the face of the idiocy. Thank God they didn't get me, cos I would most likely have sworn at the caller and and hung up, and if that had been broadcast I probably wouldn't still have my job.

She sounds positively side splitting.

Have you ever heard it?

Yes. She phoned Matt and they played it on Moyles.

Even if I hadn't, I can easily imagine the falsness of the "rubbishness" which is making it so "funny".

Scotts biggest problem is that he treats his listeners like children and doesn't expect them to realise how scripted and planned the comedy is. If he wants to do scripted comedy then fine, go ahead and do it. Don't try and pretend to the listeners that it is off the cuff and instantanious. Do "thousands" of people literally text in the next day to hear a clip they played the day before? Does he promise it's coming up in a "few" records time. Does he still pad it out for at least five records and the news?

Love you.

Well I think the rubbishness is fairly truthful. They do however rely too heavily on the certainty that it'll eventually descend into rubbishness actually becoming the actual funny bit (like people corpsing on It'll Be Alright on the Night). Unfortunately after a couple of times it becomes predictable, unfunny and a cringingly desperate reach for comedy. It's this relentless flogging of a tired format that exposes his creative shortcomings, which everyone except him seems to acknowledge.

I think you are agreeing with me but my point is that if she knows she is rubbish, why does she do it? Does she do it because she knows that it's "funny" to be rubbish? Therefore, I'd expect that she wouldn't be trying to improve the rubbishness of it all so it's not outside the realms of possibility that she might be exaggerating the rubbishness.

Which makes it false.

Yawn, guys, who gives a toss?

She is a nice, exposure hungry young woman, the fact she is on the radio, and it's something she wants is cool.

Personally I think she is a good part of the dynamic of the show.

The best Scott comment last week in my opinion was the one he contorted to mention that you could she the bush in his Mums back Garden, it was very funny, obviously planned, but very subtle.

Well I believe the comedy was planned to initially come from the script but was just later relied to come from the mid-prank corpsing. Maybe truthfulness/falseness are not useful terms to use.

That's quite hard to achieve though and remain convincing - ever tried to pretend hysterical laughter? As the prank unfolds I just think she genuinely can't maintain the absurdity without cracking up. It sounds pretty natural to me although granted it's the type of comedy you should find in the bloopers section of DVD extras and not in the main event.

It's a false truth wrapped in good rubbish.

Good point. The Scott Mills team are clearly enjoying what they do, and so do their regular listeners.

It's an entirely different comedic approach to the Chris Moyles Show but both are popular, so both must be succeeding at entertaining their respective audiences in their own ways. I'd say that's all that matters really, but I guess for some there is more joy in endless critiquing.

I've said it time and time again on here, Scott Mills is very good at what he does (I think that he is the best of that style of show). I just think that what he does is shit.

That's my opinion though and obviously goes against what plenty of others think. I am giving my reasons as to why I dislike his style.

He's still shit though.
