The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

They better not move Scott Mills to breafast! I like his show where it is and he doesn't have the same rapport on the breakfast show. All the features he has work just fine in the early evening, OWA, floorfillers, um, chappers lol. If anyone remembers 'in the day' from the late 90s - Mark and Lard when they were on the drivetime show. It was a good show and regular favourite of mine. Then they were moved to breakfast and bombed out within 9 months to be replaced by Zoe and Kevin(rip).

I think Fearne and Greg have both settled into their new slots fine and I now listen to R1 all day at work. I don't find either of them annoying as some people have said. Fearne has carried on the Whiley mantle and I am glad they are keeping the livelounge feature(is she being mentored by Jo?). Greg is obviously still very keen to be at radio 1 and it shows - some days I have heard him on Fearnes show and still around into Grimmys show. Unlike a lot of Dj's who just bolt for the door when their show ends.

That's what annoys me about him actually. He sounds too keen, like he hasn't gotten over it yet even though he's been around well over a year now. But that's not for this thread I guess.

I like Gregg but then when he was at this stage of his career I liked Scott Mills too. I hope Gregg doesn't hit the buffers and fall into desperation-radio like Mills has.

But that's all people seem to say about him, that he's young and it's a great achievement. Wasn't Chris a similar age when he started? And Scott?

Or is it because he went practically straight from student radio? Why should that be considered a bigger achievement? :?

Well i think he won the main student radio award (which is impressive) and through the guest spots on early breakfast that came with the award, he earned a permanent role - then moved to daytime reasonably quickly.

Chris had worked really hard to get on early breakfast, i don't mean to take anything away from him - i just find it really impressive that he's at a fairly good level with quite a low level of experience. How it's considered changes from person to person, but i have a lot of respect for someone who finishes their degree, and goes straight into their chosen field at the highest level (i know early breakfast may not have been the highest level given some of the predecessors). I'm aware its a very specific reason to like him, but it's my reason :)

Fair enough. I was very impressed with him too when he first started, but after a while his studenty persona (and voice if I'm honest) started to grate on me and it certainly didn't help that I was becoming more and more aware of his overexposure on the station (i.e. making appearances on everyone else's shows), and I guess that annoyed me too.

I suppose that's the beauty of radio presenting. It's of a much more personal nature than most of television and therefore as a listener you find that some DJs click with you and others just don't, although your tastes (and their personas/personalities) can change over time. As I've mentioned, I used to hate Chris but now I appreciate him more than any of the others.

The media is always going on about Moyles being to old for the flagship show on Radio 1, but isn't Mills the same age so how would that particular argument work ?
As for Ferne Cotton doing a great job :? What day was that then ? I've tried giving her a chance but to no avail. If anyone deserves praise Greg James does, he's come into he's own since been giving a top slot. I always come back to Radio 1 in the afternoons now. That's after switching off the mockney shrill that is the Ferne Cotton show that is.

Exactly what you just said. Except i think scott mills is really good. He's good in the afternoons that is, not sure he would suit the mornings. He's hosted it before and the show hasn't been nearly as good as the chris moyles show. I think maybe if he was given the scott mills show in the morning it could work better as he would have a new format and everything for it but his afternoon show just doesn't work in the morning. I think vernon kay only seems good in the mornings because it's essentially the chris moyles show but with a different presenter, which is what scott should do in the mornings. And something just occurred to me - does scott do its only bleh friday at 6:30am when he's in mornings for a week?
