Anyone get any thoughts on what would happen to the station?

Wonder if there will be new Newsbeat jingles. I would doubt it though, as they spet quite a bit of money remixing them for 2009, so I wouldn't be surprised if these ones stayed. But, does anyone know the Christmas schedule?

So, last week before Christmas and first week after Christmas I may as well throw the radio out the window. I won't listen over Christmas anyway.

Actually, Sara at 10am isn't bad, but I doubt I'll last that long.

Greg James live on Christmas Day AGAIN!

Glad that coxy is on a bit over xmas. Also I hope they don't change the jingles for newsbeat. I can't see why they changed them last time other than a reason to spend licence payers money!?

While on the subject of Newsbeat, does anyone else feel that the level of the background music played during news is way too loud? Ok we know the news has got to be made 'interesting' for teens to listen to but please don't insult us with loud uncessary backing muzak!

i think the exact opposite! When Dom's reading the news, they may aswell not have a news bed, as you can't hear it at all.

Turn your radio up i think. It's definitely loud enough. I don't think it's too loud, i think it's just right. :)

Good luck! :D

I must say I am impressed by Radio One's imaginative efforts in making sure its talent get time off at Christmas; Repeat of the whole 'Story of the Noughties' series, listener takeovers, Greg James...

Sometimes I feel I am maybes a wee bit too geeky. Then I come on here and read a discussion about the sound levels of the newsbeat bed and my faith is restored.

Rock on.

Good luck chap. You should play Hocus Pocus by Focus, if they say it's too old tell them BBC3 use it on one of their adverts advertising that they're not afraid to try something new. I do wonder if they thought about the irony of using a song from 1971 to back this message though.

I know someone on that list and he/she (I don't really want to specify) is completely and utterly dreadful even by local radio standards, even though they think they are amazing. They have a show they do elsewhere (not on commercial radio) and it is so overproduced with unnecessary clips that it is like the illegitimate love child of Scott Mills and Steve Wright only 10 times worse. Problem is that he/she thinks they are amazing, the best thing to ever happen to radio and play their show to everyone who cares to talk to them in the street - seriously - but everyone else at the station knows their are utterly naff.

Can't knock them for enthusiasm though, but they are utter crap trust me. Would love to see their application for this takeover thing. Why not have fun and guess which one I'm talking about while you are listening.

(I'm not talking about you mcmahonman don't worry. Good luck with it, hope it goes/has gone well)

Merry Christmas folks!

My show won't be great and I know it. It's hard to drum up enthusiasm at half past midnight while your family is in bed. I just thought it would be a cool thing to do and will become a great story. I would like my own radio show one day but this won't put me in a great light for that.

As for song requests, unfortuently the songs have been locked in for about a week now. Sorry guys.

So do you get to go to radio 1 to record it or have you recorded it already? What information did they send you regarding it as to what links you have to do, what you're allowed to say/what you cant say etc.?

From what I heard you get to go to your nearest BBC local station to record 7 minutes of material. Although the guy I know for some unknown reason elected to use the facilities at his own station rather than go to the beeb.

After submitting my idea I recived a phone call from a producer going over the basic idea and the song choices. After which he said that because of my location (I live on the Isle of Wight) it was best to get ahold of a dictaphone. I wasn't told not to do anything but I'm sure they would have edited anything out the would have been inapropriate.
