I was nearly coming to the conclusion I was either wrong, or just the only one to remember him.
But now I'm not :)

Well I for one like Carrie and when she inevitably disappears off for her maternity leave I'll miss her voice.

Even though she's a Chelsea fan.

Maybe not, but she's there for a lot more than reading the sports news. I don't think she's always been brilliant at it to be honest, but the last couple of years for me she's really clicked, and I'll miss her.

You've clearly never seen what's classed as "sports journalism" in Scotland then. Carrie's a fountain of knowledge compared to some of the cretins that work up here.

i don't think tulip would be good enough to fill in for anything more than a few weeks...her input to the show wasn't great, and carrie will be off for at least 3 months (if not permanently)

Bring it on.

Write a 30 second piece on the latest sport then read it and sit back and count the money.

Piece of piss.

what an oversimplification.

doctor: just sit in your office and diagnose some patients, sit back and count the money

lawyer: go to court every now and again, and cite some litigation - then sit back and count the money

policeman: walk about, when a crime happens go and take a statement - explain you'll do everything you can to help and sit back and count the money

i'm sure there are more commitments to the sport sector of the station (as referenced by carrie's other appearances on the BBC in a sporting vacinity, BBC London, 5 Live etc.) also the skills which are needed to write a decent sports bulletin, where all the necessary information can be compressed into 30 seconds - in a language fit for broadcast and easily understandable. listen to local radio and their bulletins and you'll notice the difference. you might not think that working in broadcast media requires any skill or talent, but you're wrong.

True enough, but you have to admit that Carrie's job as it appears on the Moyles show is probably the easiest money any qualified sports journalist will ever earn. I don't imagine it challenges her all that much because as you say, she wouldn't have got the job in the first place unless she was very heavily qualified and had excellent experience and credentials. I expect she's very glad of the opportunities she gets in other parts of the BBC to actually flex her journalistic muscles and do some proper work!

Oh yeah, definitely - but it's never as clear cut as the appearance makes out, i remember when i first discovered that producers are pretty much in the office all day - i was shocked as i thought people like fincham, aled and rachel basically did nothing...but they obviously have a lot of work to do.

Plus hiring overqualified staff for important high paying jobs is certainly a good thing, as they help keep the standards higher than they could fall.

Are you really comparing those 3 occupations with that of a radio sports presenter??

Her job is a doddle,I (anyone) could do it.

I hardly think She is overqualified.

She got the job because she amuses Moyles and is quite perky.

Hardly a hard hitting journo is She!!

The BBC employ her, not Moyles. And they don't take anyone but the most highly qualified. Whilst she might have got the Moyles show gig for the reasons you mention, she was already a BBC employee at the time so the only assumption to make was that she passed their extremely rigorous recruitment process with flying colours - and you can assume this based on the number of incredibly well qualified people who don't manage to get jobs there. You're being a tit again.

i'm comparing your base description of a broadcast sports journalist, to basic descriptions of other occupations in order to make them seem trivial - just like you did with the sports reader position.

i don't doubt that you are capable of writing a sports bulletin and reading it - but the content would most likely have multiple errors, be less than fully informative to the target audience spanning across all the current major sporting events. oh, and your delivery of the report on live radio would probably also be flawed - given that you have no experience in live broadcasting (and presumably proper elocution, pronunciation etc)

twoleftfeet being a tit? surely not!

Nothing to do with the fact she is a woman then and due to the poiltically correct Beeb having to employ x amount of women??

For the record you dont have to be highly qualified to be a Sports journalist eg Gary Lineker,Gabby Yorath etc etc
User avatar

just for the record, Lineker isn't a journalist, he's a presenter - a pundit.

Most of the interviews and written comment that is given by these former sporting stars, pundits such as hansen, lineker, robbo etc. (who are pretty knowledgeable of the field) are taken down by a journalist and transferred into a piece to be published. read the last line of the article when it often says ' *insert pundit* was speaking to *insert journalist*'

also, it seems to help the dynamic of the show to have some women on it as it balances out the opinion, allowing it to appeal to a wider audience.

What's your beef with Carrie, she is great!

I think she's great at her job and it never even occured to me that she would have been hired just because she was a woman because....A) she does a great job and B) what sort of knobber would think like that!

But on the other hand I think Aled was only hired because he talks funny, and we all know that the BBC has to hire x amount of funny speaking people
