But they don't. They are subject to the same anti-discrimination laws as any other employer, but that doesn't compel them to employ a certain number or percentage of female/disabled/gay/whatever staff, it merely compels them to follow proper procedure and be able to demonstrate that they have employed the right person for the job without discrimination on any of those grounds. Some companies and organisation have their own policy regarding percentages of gender etc, but not many, and I'm pretty sure the BBC doesn't. I'll be seeing someone who works for them later tonight, I'll ask him to confirm that. Or maybe Aled could tell us?

Always really liked Carrie, she's a great sportsreader. There have been some great newsreaders in the past, such as Claire Cavanagh, Anna Lee and the famous Georgina Bowman. Any clips of Anna Lee would be great btw. Anyway, please don't mention Tulip Mazumdar again. I simply cannot stand her, she's got such an irritating voice, and sounds miserable and fed up when she does get round to reading the news. One of my favourite current newsreaders is Debbie Randle

I feel that they can possibly get julliette back for a few months.

Any views. It maybe early to say at this point. But it'll come up very quickly.

As some people have already said in here, I'd also like Andy Isit back, he was like a member of the team, without being there for years like the others..

i was reading on aled's website that the prospective candidates are now down to the final 4. And they are currently doing pilot shows to see how each of the candidates work and if they will fit into the show.
I think there was about 25 candidates. (i don't know the exact figure.) and ben cooper and rod mckenzie have interviewed each candidate and now with them down to the final 4. The pilots are beginning.

We are talking about the BBC here. Tax payers money but in the main miles off having some connection with the viewers (listeners)
If you have ever visited the 'magic doughnut' you'll immediately feel out of the norm for just being non-gay!!

I have. I didn't. Neither did the two straight men I was with. But that's neither here nor there - twoleftfeet stated that the BBC have to employ in quotas - I pointed out that they don't have to. Whether they do it voluntarily or not is another matter entirely, but people I know who are BBC employees (in several different departments) tell me its not noticeably the case. They might be wrong I suppose, but I can't see why I would argue with them.

If the corporation tends to advertise for jobs in the Guardian all the time then it must effect the type of people who work for it.

Equally if the BBC advertised jobs in the Daily Mail then you might expect loads of nice little horn-rimmed bespectabled ladies complaining about political correctness going mad all the time.

I add with much gusto: "IMHO"

Well an HO is one thing - an informed one is quite another.

I'll have you know that these days Viv is calm, reasonable, friendly and almost sane. Thank goodness she isn't COMPLETELY sane because that would be boring, but she's obviously a lot happier than she was.
