N-Dubz star Dappy has apologised to a woman for sending her threatening text messages, after she contacted BBC Radio 1 expressing her dislike for the band.

Chloe Moody texted The Chris Moyles Show while the band were being interviewed, calling them "losers" and labelling Dappy "repulsive".

But she was shocked to receive a message the following day from rapper Dappy saying: "Your gonna die".

The BBC said Dappy took down Ms Moody's number without producers' knowledge.

Ms Moody, from Boston, Lincolnshire, texted the Radio 1 show while in the car with her mum.

“ I called her in the heat of the moment when I was angry, but that is no excuse for my behaviour ”

She said she was "shocked" to receive the text messages and phone calls from the rapper the following day.

"I missed two calls from a number I didn't recognise, so I texted back asking who it was, and I got a text saying 'your gonna die'."

The message went on to say: "U sent a very bad msg towards Ndubz on The Chris Moyels [sic] Show yesterday Morning and for that reason u will never be left alone!!! If u say sorry I will leave you alone."

Ms Moody added: "I was wracking my brains trying to work out who it was, as I didn't tell anyone I had texted the radio show.

"I didn't think it would be him because I seriously didn't think he'd be bothered."

When Ms Moody did eventually answer his call she said she faced further insults.

"He was just ranting, saying 'why are you saying this about me?'. If I had had a number one single and got a message from a nobody to a radio station I would not be too concerned. It obviously hit a nerve."

'Genuinely sorry'

Despite making an apology through his management, who also offered her free N-Dubz concert tickets, Ms Moody said Dappy was yet to text her personally to say sorry.

N-Dubz - Dappy and bandmates Tulisa and Fazer - featured on Tinchy Stryder's hit track Number 1 last year.

In a statement, Dappy - real name Dino Contostavlos - said: "I called her in the heat of the moment when I was angry, but that is no excuse for my behaviour.

"I'm genuinely sorry. I'd also like to send my sincerest apologies to Radio 1."

A BBC spokeswoman said: "He must have taken the number down from the production team's text console in the studio.

"We were unaware of this, but will take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again."

What an idiot, why would you do such a thing? Its just stupid, I just don't believe there are people out there who don't like N-Dubz and think Dappy is a 'loser' or is 'repulsive'.

:P

Funny little story, must listen back to that interview!

Chris kept telling N-Dubz to stop looking at the texts, and mentioned it after they left. He pointed out that they usually turn off the texts when guests are in (I imagine just the screens facing the guests).

This reminds me of the other day when I was walking about town and a girl asked me for a lighter. I didn't have one so I said, 'Sorry, I don't have one.' Then she called me every name under the sun. I walked off and, to tell the truth, I pitied the girl and I just thought she was sad.

So with certain people, it's really hard to tell how they'll take criticisms. You would have thought they'd appreciate the praising and approving texts they read, but why they wanted to focus on this one girl is beyond me. Either way the producers shouldn't have let them look at the texts, never mind the phone numbers of the text owners. That girl had every right to voice her opinion without fear of being bullied by someone too immature to know how good they've got it.

I don't know about it myself but over on Aled.info a couple of people have been talking about Dappy and NDubz and hopw they have been involved in serious incidents of bullying, common assault and aggressive behaviour to employees and fans over the years. They hide that side of themselves pretty well when they go on the radio.

I remember during the interview when Chris first noticed that Dappy was reading the texts he told him to stop - but he didn't, and in the end Chris just went with it. He maybe shouldn't have left the texts on where the guests could see them? I wonder if there's a studio policy about that?

If the girl is brave enough to send rude texts, she should accept a bit of come back.

Serves her right, I bet if all the tossers who send abuse to the show every day got a little bit back they might stop.

If you haven't got anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

Maybe so, but there's a huge difference between calling someone a 'repulsive looser' and telling them 'they're gonna die!'

I agree in principle, but there's a huge difference between an ordinary listener texting a publically disclosed number that welcomes texts from anyone and a person in the public eye sending (threatening) texts to a private number they shouldn't know.

Having heard the interview (including the mention of bad texts) I find this story rather disturbing. I wonder if it will affect Chris' opinion of the group?

I tend go along with the idea that she has brought some of this on herself.

I don't like N-Dubz and the stories about this wannabe gangster (long before this) have been pretty distasteful but if you text in you are leaving yourself open to some comeback...Moyles himself has done it before and we had the 'customer service calls' last year.

The problem is the fact he made a death threat (which crosses a line)...plus I wonder if there are data protection issues for R1 letting him get her number...

Top Gear did this a while ago when they were Drivetime DJ's the show went out showing the screen of 'angry' callers without blocking out the numbers, whilst the repeat was pixelated, indeed the BBC's own Youtube is not pixelated (now it looks genuine rather than fake and the fact they pixelated the repeat suggests it was).

I think texting in to abuse the show or the team is one thing, especially knowing Chris' occasional habit of calling people back when they do that. Texting in to say that you don't like a band and then finding that your number has been taken and used to threaten you by what is essentially a strange man - and a potentially dangerous one, who knows - is another thing entirely. It shows Dappy up for what he really is, and hopefully it might stop Chris fawning all over N-Dubz quite as much.

Its not great is it. But the more we keep on about it the more likely it is that the Daily Mail will think of it as an opportunity to create another "SachsGate". If they haven't already.

Far too late for that I'm afraid

My god - the original headline was actually "BBC in new 'Sachsgate' after Radio 1 listener receives abusive phone message from N-Dubz rapper".

Meh, just another reason for me to hate the little twats.

Echoing the earlier post, they have got into trouble a few times now for assaults, and remember recently when they got drunk on a plane and threatened to hurt people?

I dislike most modern 'Hip-Hop/R n B' music, largely due to the gigantic morons who release it. I only listen to old skool hip-hop, like Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash etc, artists who had a message behind their music!

What message do N-Dubz put forward in their music?

Don't you listen to it English Bob?! He's been searching on Facebook for someone and can't find her. I mean we're talking deep here.

Update! Dappy has been dropped from his role as an 'ambassador' for anti-bullying charity Beatbullying.

Good. How did he even get that role anyway?

I know! Doesn't really compare with Grandmaster Flash - The Message does it? I mean, a song about the life of someone growing up in a ghetto, the problems they faced, charting their life until their early death. How stupid! :D
