I think the more interesting question is what will Chris do next? I'm afraid his numbers up at radio1, not because he's done anything wrong but because radio1 is seemingly swinging the pendulum back to "youf" radio. At any rate I think most of us will follow Chris to wherever he goes, presuming he does another radio show and I sure hope he does because I don't know where else I'm going to get three+ hours of quality entertainment per day.

*Long response alert*

There certainly is an argument that Radio 1 has changed a lot since 1997, when Chris joined from Capital FM. But then again Capital FM & more-or-less virtually every radio station has changed quite a bit since Chris joined Radio 1. Whether that's a good thing or not is kind of debatable (personally I prefer radio in the 90's when DJ's had their own uniqueness about them & their shows, rather than the bland "must all sound the same" kind of Radio we have in 2010, although some sadly prefer that).

Is Chris' number up? No I don't think so, if he can still pull in the audience for the breakfast show why should he booted out because he's older? I doubt most of the "yoof" audience care about his age & if they do then they're morons as they'll get to that age someday, so as long as he's still getting the 7+million audience, I can't see any justification for his removal.

What will he do next? Radio 2 is a possibility but because of papers like the Daily Hate he's already had his character tarred, I full believe Chris could do a sensible show & play some fantastic music, if he got the chance. Look at Radcliffe & Reilly (Lard for those that don't know Marc Riley's surname), I know quite a few people who thought their show was moronic & one even described them as "those two Northern idiots who spout a load of shite", in truth an acquired taste and for me a highly enjoyable show. Both were (it was implied in an interview the two had with a magazine) pushed from Radio 1 but the BBC knew they had more to give as the pair of them moved onto new shows on other BBC station almost immediately after their departure on Radio 1.

Today Riley has a completely different show which showcase a more "grown up & alternative" style of music & for people who like the more obscure tunes & also has live sessions with bands, but not in the Radio 1"yoof" way rather pleasingly. Radcliffe has a much more grown up version of his Radio 1 show he had with Riley, as in there's still the random banter with Marconie, although less silly & more witty (if you get what I mean by that). Both DJ's have reinvented theirselves well & nearly six years since their last Radio 1 show they're still going strong.

Can the same happen with Chris and/or Dave (if he goes with him to a new show)? Very likely I feel, which station will that be? Who knows? Possibly Radio 2 but as I say the Heil will pick holes with his time on there constantly. I think, if he stays with the BBC, which is very likely seeing as he draws in an audience, he'll go to BBC 6 Music, I think he could fit in there very well with their playlist & think he'll have a very good show, even if he has to tone it down a bit with the chatting.

However who knows how it'll all pan out in the next few years, we could still be talking about Moyles' "time being up in 2014". :)

Spot on, I can never understand why generally "older" people think "young people" need a "young person" to talk to them, it doesn't make any sense.

And I don't know any kids that actually think that. When I was at school, being on nodding terms with my older brother's mates was cool. They listened to the best music, they told the best stories and they'd done the coolest things.

The "young people" who call and text in every morning seem to have a similar relationship.

The reason he'd go, and believe me I don't want him to go is that while he's enormously popular he's too popular with the wrong aged people. aka people over 29, I'm still in the offical radio1 bracket, 28 but I understand from la guardianista that the average of listeners to r1 is 33

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/oc ... lradio-bbc

So it doesn't matter if Chris is popular, too many old people are listening to him and radio1 will be forced to have him move on because if they don't get the listening age down then they run into all kinds of political problems. So when I said they were going to target the "youf" audience I mean they literally have to alienate their older listeners 29+ to get the age down. The most surefire way to start that process is to move Chris on, the audience that grew up with him will move with him most likely which should drop the listening age down, even if it drops the listening numbers at the same time.

About the "young people wanting young presenters" misconception (as I see it anyway)... I can remember being a small child and usually hating seeing other small children taking major roles on kid's TV shows. I wanted the grownups back on because they were cooler and seemed less stupid (with some exceptions, such as Mark Speight - RIP).

I feel/felt the same way about radio too, although I'm also passed the 24 mark. However, I'm fairly certain that were I ten years younger I'd feel fairly patronised by Nick Grimshaw calling everything he likes "sick", and were I five years younger wouldn't feel particularly at home with Greg James' "Yay, I'm such a student!" routine either.

Carrie's last week then I see, knew she'd be crying after they played that clip of her announcing her engagement. Shame she's going, I just hope her replacement is as good.

If he goes to Radio 2 the ideal slot opens up when around the same time his current R1 contract runs out, i.e. the Jonathan Ross slot on Saturday mornings. He could adapt to a speech format as well (in a Stern mould) but not sure 5 Live would risk him and talkSPORT probably couldn't afford him.

Now I agree I can't see him going to R2 quite yet but equally I have trouble imagining him being on (Radio 1) breakfast in 2012 yet alone 2014.

I think Dave would have to go with him whilst the others may or may not as they would have jobs at the BBC anyway.

Who says dave will go with chris. I have a feeling that there would be underminding tactics from andy parfit and ben cooper.
Vernon fitted in with the team very well and gave a 'fresh' feeling to the show. It could be a possibility that chris could go. And the rest of the team stays together under the vernon kay breakfast show. Chris and dave are best friends. BUT... Dave has his career to think about and may stay at radio 1 and link up with vernon.
It's a possibility.

going on wages though. Even if the radio station was able to afford chris. Would they be able to afford dave. The only station i think could afford chris and dave would be the bbc. Mark and lard ended up splitting up and going there seperate ways. They were together for what. 8-10 years.

I think Mark & Lard were together for about 12-15 years, the problem with Mark & Lard's show, in particular, is that you couldn't really place it anywhere else except for Radio 1, plus with both of them doing their own shows you get two great shows for the price of one, shame they're both on at the same time though.

As for what would happen to Dave when Chris eventually leaves Radio 1, who knows, I suppose that'll become an issue when the time eventually comes round.

I think it's because Chris is portrayed as being obnoxious, loud mouthed yob, which we all know he isn't but the media like to paint him in that light. Whereas Dave isn't known for that, I did enjoy the Chappers & Dave shows and think it's a shame they're no more.

Thats a good point johnny. But that arguement falls flat on your face with 2 simple words my friend.

CHRIS EVANS...

Look how everything turned out for him. He was fired from radio 1. His own radio station. (didn't he buy virgin or something and place himself in the breakfast show seat. (monday - thursday mind you.)) go into obscurity for many years. And look what he's done in the last 4 years. Radio 2 drivetime. And now possibly the most prestedious gig in all of radio. The radio 2 breakfast show. (who can argue (maybe chris will.) with how terry wogan made the show.)

True I suppose, I hope the BBC keep him on, to be honest. Despite some peoples opinions of him technically (with the desk & hitting the vocal, etc.) he's one of the best around, apparently.

In terms of prestige, within the industry the Radio 1 Breakfast Show is regarded as the most prestigious (thats the correct spelling wireman) gig. That has been the case for many years and it certainly isn't changing any time soon. I can see Chris in Radio 2 though - not soon I hope, but whenever he DOES quit R1 breakfast I hope he won't leave the BBC, I really want him to go to R2 rather than anywhere else.

true. The biggest gig is in theory is radio 1 breakfast show. But would terry wogan have something to say about that. I'm sure radio 2 breakfast may come very close to radio 1. I'm sure that chris will end up at radio 2. Maybe on drivetime. (i'm sure chris will get a extended show. Say 4-7 as apposed to 5-7 now)
Some of chris' links now tend to suggest that there can be as the papers say 'sensible chat' with chris' food chats for example.

I do agree that chris is possibly the master at hitting the vocal's on near enough every song.

She did well in LA getting the yanks to read out football results. Friday there will be no chance for the team to tickle her one last time, the one where she and Aled counted down the Top 10 is memorable.

I agree. The Radio 1 Breakfast Show has, as long as I can remember at least, been a big enough entity in itself to surpass its presenters, whereas Radio 2 Breakfast was known more for its presenter. And is still known mainly for who that presenter was rather than as a show. Mind you, I don't know what the case was before Terry (or rather between his stints).
