The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

ok. Big weekend is announced tomorrow. So what predictions do you have for tomorrow. And then we can use the thread for build up to may.

Well my prediction is. Liverpool or manchester.
Reasoning.
1. Aled said on his twitter that it was snowing at the train station. It was snowing in warrington. Which is about 10 miles from each city.
2. In 2006. We went dundee
2007. Preston.
2008. Kent.
2009. Swindon.
We hopefully should be looking at north west. Preston is near lakes. Kent. South and swindon. (not entirely sure. Cut i know it aint in north west)
3. Both have bbc local radio stations. Merseyside and manchester. Seems logical.
4. Both major cities.

Predictions taken.

I dont care either, for reasons I have mentioned on here before, I wont bore you again with them as I know most people dont agree with which is fine.

I agree with what Moyles said, the VO sounds a bit half-hearted, they're just re-using the package from last year, with new vox. Seems like this location is a bit out of reach for most people. For me in Plymouth to go to north wales would take about 6-7 hours roughly. Is it worth that massive journey, probably not.

What an ungrateful * "Holly from Maidstone" is. She got her big break thanks to Radio 1's Big Weekend. Somehow somewhere along the line she went from being one of the local voices for that year to be a regular voiceover for events on Radio 1. Now just two years later she can't even sound interested doing this year's voiceover for the same event?!

Chop her. Get a local voiceover. Welsh accents are a bonus.

Have to agree it's not like they need to sell tickets...and that voiceover played over and over just grates ...you've done the announcement fine then let people know when/how to apply for tickets and leave it until the week/days before the event...some (quick!) ticket giveaways then live from the site come the weekend a few highlights on the Monday and then be done with it!

Also let's have none of those irritating 'thank you R1' packages afterwards! Almost as bad the 'come on England' voxpops we'll get on the news come June when the pubs will once again fill up with part time fans, faces painted, spouting clichés  (sorry different rant for a different time!!!)

I simply love the idea of One Big Weekend, and I bet its a brilliant event to actually attend. But the radio coverage of the build up is so unrepresentative of what we, the radio listeners, actually get on the weekend that it becomes incredibly annoying. The build up suggests that we are going to hear coverage of the event on the radio as it happens, but we never do, we just get presenters doing their normal shows whilst wandering around the venue for no apparent reason, and the occasional recorded clip from one of the sets.

Its a great event for those who are there I imagine, but as radio its a complete piece of crap. That's why the incessant build up to it is so bloody irritating and such a waste of time.

Yes it was all live, a DJ would have a week, they travelled to a certain part of the country eg East coast (Scarborough, Bridlington etc) another DJ would do the South coast like Brighton, Bournmouth etc for that week, usually 6 DJs, over 6 weeks, 6 different areas of the all live on the air with live acts playing (well mostly miming anyway) on a stage. Thats what I miss, going around the country, playing quizzes, everyone got a chance to see DJs, bands etc, its was unique to Radio 1, I REALY miss it and think The Weekend is just another festival, sorry.

I don't see what the problem with north Wales is, tis gotta be somewhere, and can't be in same place over and over. Sure, its bound to be a long way from some people, keep ya fingers crossed they come to your area before your too old to care. Since i've been listening to Radio 1 (15 odd years) they've covered pretty much all geographical bases with free music events.

Plus North Wales is beautiful - enjoy the 7 hour drive there, take the long route!
