The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I'm in complete agreement with you that people are far too quick to assume racial motivations for things we just SAY, and the idea that we should all censor our conversation to such a huge extent makes me more than irritated. All I'm doing is trying to put the view of the people who ARE offended - whether we agree with it or not, they have their reasons. Its quite possible that Morgan Freeman could be as offended by Fearne Cotton saying "Cotton, like in "cotton-pickin'"" as he would have been by Roger Black saying "Black, as in "black as the massa's boy"". For him, the connotations could be exactly the same because the colloquialised phrases both stem from the same historical context - its just far more obvious to non African Americans that the second one (which I haven't heard for years thank goodness) would be offensive.

And yes, "Whether you like ot or not" was a ridiculous thing to say, I apologise.

But the Roger's phrase is about a person - the cotton picking is about an activity - that's my point.

Cotton picker - yes. Cotton picking - no.

But I know what you mean, and thank you kindly :)

May I just say, Dom's interview with Leonardo Di Caprio - brilliant.

Exactly how a Radio 1 interview (that isn't a deadly serious buttoned down interview) should be.

I've never had the slightest interest in Leonardo DiCaprio before, but after that interview I want him to be my best friend. He was lovely. "My nine year old cousin is writing it right now". Priceless.

I fully admit to being continuously annoyed by him.

Mainly because he looked like a girl, I think.

But I saw a film he was in with Jack Nicholson (the title of which escapes me), and he was really rather good. Then I saw Catch me if you Can, and he was excellent.

And yeah, he sounds like he's got something about him.

I didn't like him because when I was 14-15 my girlfriend fancied him and had posters all over her bedroom walls!

Also being made to watch Romeo and Juliet by both my girlfriend and then as part of English GCSE about a billion times annoyed me!

But, he is a pretty good actor, but still can't bring myself to watch Blood Diamond as his accent in the trailors annoyed me to much

The Departed. He is a far better actor than he will probably ever be credited with - I'm sure he can't possibly regret doing Titanic because it probably enabled him to pick and choose his scripts from then on (which he has done very effectively), but it did pigeonhole him somewhat as a "film star" rather than an actor. And very unfairly too.

I agree about how he looks like a girl though. I'm really not sure where the hearthrob status comes from, he's a funny looking thing.

I was about to say The Departed - brilliant film. I think a lot of blokes wrote him off after Titanic (myself included) as a chick flick actor, but he was very good in The Departed. Isn't he in an upcoming Scorcese film too?
