Yep, as of this morning I started listening again. The mornings just weren't the same with Five Live and seeing as they're live streaming from Bangor all this week I'd regret not listening to it.

Hmmmm, am I the only one thinking this, but I'm sick of hearing about the Big Weekend..... Sure, its a massive event for Radio 1 and they are going to publicise it to the extreme! But the more I hear about it, the more I consider not bothering to listen to it...... Because you know for the next 2 weeks after the Weekend, the only songs you will hear will the live performances from the show....... I really want to be there aswell, having missed out on tickets and only listening to it from your living room means that you aint experiencing the atmosphere that you would.... When pendulum play in Bangor, will your speakers be shaking as much in your living room, no.... Mind you, depends on your sound system I guess.....
God I sound miserable! Plus the Moyles show in Bangor I dont like...... When he is in his own studio, Chris is in his element....... elsewhere he doesnt seem so comfy....

I tend to avoid it this time of year, it gets a bit overhyped. Only end up getting jealous while they're all falling over themselves to let me know what an ace time they're having. Yeah I'll pass on that, even if they do want us to know how hard they all work!

All we will hear is the pre-event hype, and during the weekend itself, instead of actually broadcasting the live bands, we will get a few - a VERY few - recorded live clips, whilst we listen to shows featuring records presented by people wandering around a festival site.

The Big Weekend is a great idea in that its a huge, free festival, but unless they are actually going to BROADCAST it it makes crap radio. Do it, of course, the Big Weekend is great - but please stop pretending that it has anything to do with your radio audience who are not going to be there.

I got tickets to the Preston Big Weekend, and it is great when you're there, but they'd not be able to broadcast it live in its current form. On the main stage there were gaps of up to an hour between bands (and you couldn't really move away during this time) although obviously with some clever timing they could switch between stages for on-air. But the main reason would be down to language, which just wouldn't be allowed to be broadcast during daytime. There was quite a lot of swearing from both DJs and the bands between songs, and of course you also get uncensored lyrics as opposed to the radio edits you normally hear on air. Hence the reason we get to hear highlights of songs - it gives them a chance to edit out anything that could get them into trouble!

Of course they couldn't broadcast it - so I would like them to stop pretending that the radio audience has got something amazing to look forward to in the same way that the people who actually attend have! The Big Weekend is great, but it isn't a radio event - stop pretending that it is!

Obviously though in the old days (showing my age now!) with the Radio 1 Roadshows, the whole thing used to be live from the stage (with records in between of course), and far too many years ago I remember being at the big Radio 1 25th anniversary event in Sutton Park where they had a R1 Roadshow stage along with a massive gig stage (with music greats such as Aswad and Status Quo... )

I wonder whether there is any way they could broadcast more of the actual event of the Big Weekends (by using short delays / shows presented from mainstage between acts etc), or whether the radio listeners would actually get bored of it pretty quickly?

It bores me a bit, but I try to zone out / get a shower / walk to the car / make a coffee when they start talking about it, but I don't have an issue with it, it's clearly a massive deal for a lot of people, so good luck to them

Having not paid much attention to this, I personally feel that devoting the last hour of the Chris Moyles Show every day this week (except Friday - thank goodness) to the Big Weekend performances - in addition to the live tracks already infiltrating the playlist - is a bit of an overkill.

I'm sure others will feel differently though.

I will be turning off at 9am as I have no interest in listening. Thankfully my fast reaction got to the off switch before Cheryl Cole made my ears bleed this morning. How is she classed as a singer ????

It kinda is, but they wouldn't be able to get the acts to play if they didn't get shit loads of publicity in the build up and post big weekend.

Radio 1 have to promote the hell out of the acts to make it worth the artists while

Ihave only heard a few clips - Rhianna sounded TERRIBLE, Florence sounded (as always) incredible, Dizzee seemed (unusually) not at his best, JLS sounded really good, all other clips which I couldn't identify at the time sounded like a real mess to be honest. Playing live is an art which many have yet to learn.

I also think that playing out an hour of highlights at 9am is a bad decision. I switched off yesterday and I'll do the same for the rest of the week. I feel robbed of an hour of the show!

I agree. Its bad because we lose an hour of the show and bad because the weekend is history now and hearing highlights all week is boring. I enjoyed the whole weekend and the build up to it but when its over, its over. Talk about it on the Monday to reflect, then move on.

I dont know why your all complaining , I love the hour of Cole or Bieber performances or Dizzee roaring down the mike.....
The big weekend is a great idea, bringing bid acts to remote parts of the UK but show overboard at 9 is just overkill.

I thought Chris having a go at some guy in the first half hour this morning that texted in to say it was just a breakaway for them was a bit OTT. I meanwith the all the pics of BBQ's, sailing, footie and the like all on the website last week you could be forgiven for thinking that.

The highlight of the weekend for me was Daves Justin Bieber interview!!

I liked the rant to the texter. The way he emphasised the word "pillock" was brilliant I think that even though we see them in the videos having a laugh it is still mostly work to them, whith the possible exception oif the BBQ. I watched that live on the Greg James show and they seemed to be loving it. Chris singing to Shed Seven was brilliant.

The Bieber interview was funny as well, although they were far too harsh on Beiber. Dave went into the interview with the intention of taking the piss and messing about and I think its fair enough if Beiber couldnt be arsed with it. Very funny though.

Like I said, it is overkill the amount of Big Weekend replays they have to do afterwards. But as the acts don't get paid for the Big Weekend, the BBC offer to promote them instead.

If it wasn't for all the promotion around it the Big Weekend would just consist of Chico and other crap artists.

I don't give a s**t about the Big Weekend, never have. The lineup is always a list of 'music to play to me if I was being tortured' so no, I am most definitely NOT enjoying the Big Weekend stuff devouring one hour of the show.

Also, why has the Big Weekend taken over the Radio 1 website? I can't find the listening schedule or the show pages now! Grrr.


My musical tastes are heavily rock-based. Led Zeppelin are my favourite band, so that should give you some idea why artists like Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Cheryl Cole make me want to stab my eardrums out.

According to me that BBC announced a big weekend that definately be a party and a celebration over there on a huge level.This would be one of the best celebrations or party.I am eagerly waiting for it.
