Yes I loved it. A superb way to bow out. Kept us guessing to the end, all the depth and character of this show has been a joy to watch over the years. I admire how they were determined to make it darker and even more dramatic towards the end. Love what Danny Mays did with his character, from Viv in episode 6 to sparring with Gene in the final episode he brought his own beautifully menacing side to the show, reminded me of a Batman/Joker dynamic.

Philip Glenister is a top top actor and he's never ever gonna better the performances he has graced us with over the past 5 years. I'll be firing up yet another DVD boxset again soon. Oh, and the show looks great in HD on the iPlayer.

I think I'm going to watch them all back to back once Series 3 of A2A comes out on DVD, the two series (LOM & A2A) are proof that the BBC Licence Fee is still worth it. Just a shame the BBC don't produce more excellent stuff like this all year round.

Watching back Episode 1 of Ashes To Ashes, Zippy wasn't lying when he said to Molly that her Mum was never coming back after all of that.

Johnny 1989 wrote:Oddly enough nobody I know (apart from my Dad) watches this, their comments range from "I haven't seen it" to "What a load of old bollocks it is", this is all from EastEnders fans by the way

Same here. None of my friends/family watch it.

Series 3 is out on 5th July. You can pre order it now from Amazon :)

Yeah, you know it really amazes me, everyone moans about how shite TV is these days, a rare gem comes on & no one I know sodding watches it.

Thanks for the info regarding the DVD release, wish it was being release in June instead :)

Life On Mars was brilliant. Ashes To Ashes wasn't. Gene Hunt turned into some kind of cartoon character - too much.

I actually prefer Ashes To Ashes over Life On Mars myself, I just prefer Gene in A2A myself.

I'm just very grateful for decent telly in an age of telly execs ticking one box and one box only -the 'weekend family entertainment' box. This was for a more sophisticated audience and I shall miss it.

Same here, most TV these days is absolute bollocks, LOM/A2A is one of those rare gems and I will miss Gene Hunt & Co a lot. The BBC should be making more great drama like this. :)

Something very interesting in the second episode of series 2, the gypsy woman who is reading Gene's tarro (sp) card says:

Your fate is connected with the fate of many others.

Seems that whole "four year plan" thing with the series was true then

I love them both for different reasons. I liked the relationship between Sam and Gene in Life on Mars and there seemed to be more humour. I liked the whole Annie and Sam thing. Also he seemed to have more connections with his 'real life' than Alex did in Ashes to Ashes. Ashes to Ashes was a lot more dark i think than Life on Mars - it made you think more about whats really going on. Really gonna miss the show.

Oh I like both series as well, just prefer A2A a bit more over LOM, then again it's been ages since I've watched LOM.

Watched back the finale again, favourite line had to be:

Gene: "Oi! I'm arresting you for murdering my car you dyke-digging toss pot!"
