Reports are coming in that Pete Steele, singer of metal band Type O Negative, has died of heart failure, aged 48. This won't mean much to non-metal fans, but they are a well-known and well-respected band so this gets an 'oh no' from me. (Also he posed naked for Playgirl which was a sight to behold...)

I have fond memories of seeing the band in Aberdeen in 1999, when (I believe) they were at their height. I found most of the material beyond their second album disappointing, and pretty much lost interest after Stuart left in 2003. Admittedly I don't know much about why he was sacked, but he was good fun.

I have fond memories of meeting Stuart Cable just before he got thrown out of the Stereophonics, we had a mutual friend who, truth be told, also should have known better really (he also managed to ruin his career through taking his social life more seriously than his professional life), but they were both a lot of fun (in small doses anyway). I couldn't keep up at all, but I remember Stuart as being a really lovely bloke and there was a lot of laughing. I mean really a lot.
