Great race. Master class in racing from Hamilton and Button, wicked, but maybe a tad silly.

The Red Bull secret appears to be the exhaust being used to give better traction over the back wheels, interesting.

They've had that exhaust system all season and no doubt others will copy next season... but you can put money on it that Adrian Newey will find yet another way to give the Red Bulls the edge.

I was totally caught off guard when Vettel and Webber hit. I was also sort of shocked how close Button and Hamilton got only a few laps later. This was a good race!

I also want Red Bull to win it all.

That was bloody brilliant driving from Lewis, he really is a class above at Montreal.

I missed the damn thing. I watched qualifying and it was obviously going to be a great race - I missed it! Is it on iPlayer at all, or will it be repeated does anyone know?

Yep, it's on the iPlayer. It wasn't as exciting as Turkey, but then Turkey took some beating; qualifying though, was so exciting, those closing stages where Alonso went quickest, then Webber and suddenly Hamilton, who had been dominating up to then, was down in fourth, after Vettel did a quicker lap to sneak into second behind Webber.... but then you've got to hand it to Lewis, what a do-or-die lap that was, it was a bloody blinder.

Lucky or not (and everyone needs a bit of luck sometimes), both Lewis and Jenson put in some great overtaking moves and thoroughly deserved what they got out of it. Also, as Martin Brundle said, Schumacher drove disgracefully.

Schumacher drove like a nob-sack. He was rubbish, yet seemed hell bent on influicting his misfortune upon anyone wishign to zoom past 'im. Ruddy big-chinned *er.

Great drive by Lewis and Button, good that they have now managed a double one-two finish. And nice to see Ferarri back at the correct end of the grid.

Good to see Hamilton back where he belongs - at the top of the driver's championship.

Schumacher did not drive as bad as what people make out...

He was in contention to be with vettel and webber in that 4th, 5th and 6th place gaggle until his tangle with Kubica...

The incident with Kubica was a hard but fair move and you can see that when they reached the corner. schumacher was in front of kubica and should of backed off. That effectively wrecked the race for schumacher...

Schumacher then cane into the pit with a puncher after the Kubica Incident and then did 37 Laps on the super soft tyres. Race winner Lewis Hamilton did 10 laps on the tyre.

So in that respect, That was a good drive,

When we go into the massa incident, Schumacher moved once his line as per regulations too defend the place, and then went back onto the racing line and then breaked early due o the state of his tyres, and massa took himself out by breaking his wing...

Martin Brundle is not talking alot of sense really, he has become too modern in drivers overtaking, follow the leader and you go past my friend. Where are the forceful overtaking that we are used too seeing in the late 80's and early 90's... As for schumachers incidents... Both incidents were legal as guest race steward advisor was emmerson Fittipaldi. a 2 time formula 1 champion in the 70's and both incidents from schumacher was dropped.

I don't like that circuit, but whatever. Thank... well, thank whoever or whatever it is you believe in that Mark Webber is unharmed, that was a scary, scary crash.

I think thanking the designers and builders of F1 cars would be the place to start. How the hell he walked away from that is a testament to them.

I enjoyed the race yesterday - such a shame about Hamilton's drive-through, it would have been an epic finish otherwise, but Vettel managed his race well. Alonso is a funny, twisted, bitter little man isn't he? Hilarious - what an absolute idiot he made of himself. I wonder if he realised that his comments on the race radio were being broadcast? Made himself look very small. Great drive by Kobayashi though wasn't it?

Star of the show though, the circuit. What an absolutely beautiful location for a grand prix - it looked brilliant on the television, really lovely. I want to go to Valencia.

Well quite - I reckon even 10 or 15 years ago, he'd have been toast in that.

Ha, I forgot about Kobayashi - the man has talent, I'm telling you - I should think (well, I hope) he'll get a better offer than Sauber next season, so it'll be interesting to see how he does with a better car. Alonso's reaction yesterday was the equivalent of a footballer miming the action of carding a player for a foul. Pathetic.

As for the circuit, well - obviously the location is lovely. The circuit layout is horrible and bland and boring. Still, Silverstone next - lovely!

Realistically when all you have is cars going round and round and round and round........the location is important. And I didn't mind the circuit itself - it had variety, it enabled overtaking in more than one place and more than one way - what more do you want?!

Well look, that there was a fair amount more overtaking in this race is more testament to the drivers because the circuit certainly does not encourage it. Several drivers have said it's not challenging or thrilling enough; perverse as that sounds given the horrific crash, that could have happened anywhere.

I can't stand Eddie Jordan. Every race the man annoys me in some way. The BBC need to get that idiot out of there.

The crash was a big one. But i don't agree webber would bw dead if it appened 10 - 15 years ago...

Jacques villeneuve and Riccardo zonta, Spa 99.
Luchiano Burti in spa 2001.
Dereck Warrick in italy 1993.

These were big crashes, And in del boys case, He finnished the race driving into his team mate and finnishing the race on his head.

I still remember seeing footage of the awful crash that killed Gilles Villeneuve. I think it was in practice, not the race, and the sight of Villeneuve literally bouncing 40 feet in the air across the track was sickening. That was a long time ago though, can't remember what year but it was ages ago.

The thing is, even though they were awful crashes, saying "well, they survived, so clearly another crash similar to that would have had the same results" is silly because there can be all manner of tiny things that you don't see that are the deciding factor in life or death. Fair enough, maybe 10 years ago is a little early (I tend to forget that 10 years ago is actually only 2000), but I still think 15 or 20 years ago, he'd have stood a good chance of dying in that accident.

I must say, Eddie Jordan isn't as good as I thought he'd be and I can certainly see why people would be irritated by him, but I don't mind him. Jonathan Legard on the other hand, I like. Although I don't quite know if that's because James Allen was so blood-curdlingly, excruciatingly * dreadful.

So, what did we all think of Silverstone? I love the new layout personally and I thought the race was a good one - particularly the start. I'm interested in wireman2004's excuses for Schumacher now - over half-way through the season - when he has been beaten and out-qualified by Nico Rosberg in the last three races and over the entire season, in eight out of 10 races.

I was interested in Zoot's observations of the crowd's reaction to individual drivers. I wasn't at all surprised that the Silverstone crowd aren't particularly partial to Alonso, but I would have thought there would be some level of respect if not affection for Schumacher, but it seems not.
