Hi all, when i try to download the radio 1 shows by using the URLs e.g rtsp://rm-acl.bbc.co.uk/radio1coyopa/ra ... ay_1300.ra which used to work all i now get is the old shows from the previous week (currently Big Weekend and run up to) so am thinking the URLs have changed. Could someone please find out what they have changed to and let me know? I have tried looking on the iPlayer with no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That blog post relates only to RealMedia streams, its the RealMedia listen again stuff which has vanished.

This is really annoying as I use to download the shows onto my ipod from here. How else can I do it?

From recording the radio? Failing that, there's the AAC stream, the MP3 stream and the WMA stream.

Do you know if these are available as consistent URLs that can be loaded up in a media plasyer and streamed to listen again?

I used to quite like just having realplayer open with a playlist of the 5 listen again streams and be able to use my computer's media keys to control it, etc.

No, the URLs contain the secondary ID code for the programme, which is different for each show.

so, would i be able to download the shows as i could previously with, say, Net transport? If so, how would i go about doing this and what software would i need to download?

I don't know what Net Transport's capabilities are, so I don't know if it will work, but you need a program that will save either MMS or RTMP streams (preferably MMS as the directions for getting the download URL are shorter).

ok thanks, so how do you do it. What i am really looking for is an easy step by step guide of how to download the shows so i can clip requests. I am not particularly good with the technology so this would be a huge help if you could indulge me!

Ok, first go to the CM minisite and click the 'Listen Now' link for the show you want to listen to/download - in the URL change the word 'console' to 'playlist'. Next, find the line that starts '<item kind="radioProgramme"' and find the identifier value (the bit after where it says 'identifier=', between the speech marks). Put that identifier in the following URL where it says '{{ID HERE}}': -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/asx/{{ID HERE}}/iplayer_intl_stream_wma_uk_concrete

That URL is an ASX playlist file which numerous media players will play and some stream savers will save the stream from.

Note: the changes started on the Friday before last so we have not yet had a Monday stream. By my powers of deduction I predict it will be named:

For capturing the streams in Linux I found the following command to be useful:
mplayer -cache 2048 -bandwidth 9999999 http://wm-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/radio1coyop ... WMExt=.asf -vc null -vo null -ao pcm:fast:waveheader:file=out.wav

Just replace tuesday with the relevant day of the week and out.wav with your desired output filename. Before the change the whole stream could be downloaded in a few minutes. Now it is in realtime.

No, you don't - Linux isn't that sort of software - you need an stream saver capable of handling the MMS protocol, Net Transport should be able to do that.

I am struggling to find this URL. I open up the iPlayer and copy the link into a browser and change the console bit to playlist but where do i find the identifier part?

Try the direct MMS links on the LA Links page, Net Transport may not like ASX files, although I've just looked it up and it seems to support them. Is your version of Net Transport up-to-date?
