There are buy it now offers for £900 on there, so I think £1400 may be asking allot, and it's not a bid, its the price you have to pay to get it.

He's been a member for 9 years, does very little selling or buying, and he's Italian.

Given these facts I would not trust that account with money.

The listing is complete, meaning that someone had agreed to pay the amount. Ebay refer to that as a winning bid even if it's a 'buy it now' and so not strictly an auction - that was what I meant by a bid.

I actually meant the buyer was probably a scammer, not the seller (as in what happened to Toph and Cat). A common feature of scam buyers is that they bid way over the commonly accepted value of the item, and will often volunteer to add extra cash onto their payment for postage etc, conning the seller into a false sense of security. It's most common with electrical goods and phones. (I have been ebaying for a long time now!)

Your missing something dude, the phone for sale im guessing is SIM Free one?, Apple will be selling SIM Free iPhone 4s in the UK, geeks in the USA and rest of europe will be jumping for these as they wont be available in here for while and rest of europe also for a few months, in the USA AT&T still have exclusivity on iPhones, it means if a Yankee doddle buys this they can use the iphone on any network in USA and not be locked down to AT&T. If you can get your hands on MORE id buy as many as you can and sell as quickly as you can.

I'm wanting to sell my phone though, not buy someone elses. I'm wanting HIS money. And I want it paid through PayPal. If it's not, they can jog on.

This means you have to send it Recorded or Special Delivery (Special Delivery is better, as Recorded Delivery is still not guaranteed, it just needs a signature when it is delivered), or you can use a courier service, AS LONG AS IT IS TRACKABLE ONLINE. If you do this, you should be covered by Paypal. I think.

You can also specify to block bidders who are registered in countries to which you don't post. Obviously many of them register with UK/US addresses to get around that, but if I recall correctly (I can't access ebay at work to double-check this), if after they win they then ask for the phone to be sent to a country you don't post to, you can raise a dispute and get the transaction cancelled on that basis.

Well it's an iPhone worth £600 so i'm already sending it special delivery.

I've already done that as well, will post to Europe, Australia, Canada and the US. I've also listed the countries that I won't post to and told the guy from Indonesia that it wasn't for happening (even though I think based on his usage he is a genuine seller, I aint taking the risk).

Then the only other thing I'd say is to specify in your listing that you won't post the phone til after the payment has cleared. You can add that it's to prevent scammers if you want - genuine bidders will understand. As soon as the payment is in your paypal account, withdraw it to your bank account and don't post the phone til you can see it in your bank. That should take 5-7 working days, which is a perfectly reasonable amount of time to wait to post such a high value item. Then if the account turns out not to be geniune, paypal can't take the money back, as you've already withdrawn it.

You're sending Special Delivery, so you should be fine. If it turns out to be a scammer, you can prove that the item was delivered using Royal Mail's online service.
