Seconded.

I vote for what they said.

I don't. As a DJ I don't think Scott's any less skilled than Moyles. He just has an exuberant style you don't get on with (I've gone off it too lately) - same as Chris Moyles with those who dislike him.

Greg is clearly popular, but I think some of the other young DJs already seem more professional than he is. Although he certainly has the skills and has a lot of potential, I find him lacking. On the other hand it could just be that I notice it more with him because of all the overexposure he's had on the station in the past two years.

How can you say he is as skilled as Chris? He crashes every vocal, his timing is all over the place - technically he is terrible. And the reason I don't like what you call his "exuberant style" is because its so fake - he has all the genuine exuberance of a rock. A few years ago he was really good, and that was what got him noticed - I'm still not sure why he changed.

I certainly take your point about Gregg though. I think we tend to leap on him (ooer missus) as an obvious replacement for Mills/Moyles, but he's not alone out there. SOme of the young "talent" hasn't taken at all - Nihal has never really clicked, and Dev is awful - but Huw thingy, you know, the Welsh blokey, he's excellent. I'd like to hear him on a more mainstream show.

Huw Stevens, I agree he's very good (apart from a format that was clearly forced on him the New Year before last in which "Dr Huw" travelled into the future to see what was going to be big over the next 12 months.... cringeworthy.) Huw Stevens also has trouble saying his own name. "Heoow".

He's Welsh, so pronounciation is a built in difficulty for him. I like him though, in spite of that!

You must listen more often that I do because I can't say I notice him lacking in technical skills. Fair enough, maybe you spot these things better than I do. But if he was able to do it before, why would that have stopped? It's not like he's old and losing his reflexes. It may all be part of the "fakeness".

I don't quite understand who he's supposed to be appealing to these days though, now that Greg is so obviously marketed towards the student demographic.

Personally I see Chris signing again but (unfortunately) I really struggle to see him doing the show for more than 2 years. Saying that I struggle to see him anywhere else on the Station. Afternoon would be treading old ground, as would weekends and I don't think the show would really work during the 2 midday slots without changing massively.

I see Greg James starting to be groomed for the breakfast show between now and whenever Chris actually leaves. I think Greg James is great but I struggle to see his breakfast show working without a 'team'.

I also have to join in with the Huw love. Anytime I've heard him doing daytime I've really really enjoyed it.

Yep Huw is good on Radio 1 as is Greg, don't mind Vernon myself but he's definitely not to everyone's tastes.

As for who should do the Breakfast Show, how about Mark & Lard, oh wait... ;)

In all honesty I wish someone out there had an edition of a Mark & Lard Breakfast Show, I'd really like to hear how off the wall it was :)

Vernon is ok but he can't always cope with the unpredictability of an unscripted format. He's ok as long as the spontaneity is within his grasp, but it can get beyond him quite easily in a way that it just never does with Chris, and he then flounders. I actually think he would be better in a more Mills type show.

I do like Greg but at the moment he's no breakfast show material. He just plays far too many records without much talking for my liking. Scot is a good dj its just I hate his style of pre scripted comedy. Its just awful when sometimes he tries to make it sound like its not! When I think about it I don't think there's anybody that good enough to replace moyles at this time.

this is just the way that all the djs that aren't Moyles are really.

without pre-scripted comedy, dave would be redundant :P

Only in the sense that if there was no pre-scripted comedy there wouldn't be anything to pretend Dave does.....I think. I may have confused myself. Its easily done.

What do we all make of the slight slip by Dom in the opening link this morning?

I heard the opening link... and I was awake, as I was on my bike, but I'm not totally sure I know what you're on about - was I really that dozy this morning, or was it really very slight? (And what was it?)

Dom was talking about his taxi booking in the mornings - he mentioned that it was a block booking until the end of the year - at which point he suddenly stopped and backtracked, and Chris was all "well IF you need it....." So I think we can probably speculate that Dom at least is planning to be doing Breakfast for at least the rest of the year.

Ah, I did hear him say it's until the end of the year, but I didn't spot the backtracking or Chris' comment.
