Not sure if this belongs in here or in Ramble - I'm sure Console will move it if he feels the need.

Anyway, I have just read that the BBC Trust rejected plans to scrap 6 Music, so it is to be retained. Good old BBC Trust!

Bearing in mind how upset so many people said they were at the time, and how many of them felt moved to come here and tell us that it was all Moyles' fault, I'm very surprised at the lack of responses here. Maybe they only cared when there was something to complain about, and now that its good news they aren't bothered?

English Bob isn't on the board every day... can't remember the rest of them actually. :?

Great news! I was also pleased to read that the Digital Radio Switchover plans will be reviewed, although I need to read more into that.

I would have posted earlier, but I was at work :D

Fantastic news! 6Music is easily my favourite radio station, and they really do play a much better variety of music than the other stations.

As to all the people who blamed Moyles Yuds, they were probably NOT true 6Music fans, probably people who just jumped on the bandwagon when the closure was announced. It's no coincidence that since the Save 6Music campaign started, the listening figures doubled :D

For people who were fans of 6Music before the closures were even announced though, its wonderful news.

Shame about the Asian Network getting the chop though!

I am rather pleased, I'm one of those fans of 6Music though that was disappointed when other listeners called for Moyles to be sacked. I'm really glad 6Music is staying though as they really do have a great line up of music & in every show you do get songs you don't constantly hear over & over again on other stations.

Shame about the Asian Network however, although that may still be closing as there wasn't as big an outcry as there was with 6Music. I'm still baffled however into the thinking that BBC (radio) 7 being re-branded to BBC 4 Extra was more important than keeping 6 Music & Asian Network, do we really need two speech radio stations?

But why though? There is a gap in the market for this kind of station, especially now that XFM has been "Capital FMalised" If digital Radio ever does take off like digital TV over here then I could see 6 Music being one of the more popular stations in the UK

The BBC Trust said that if the public opinion was strong enough that they wanted 6Music to stay, then they would stop it from closing; they're just keeping to their word. After all, the BBC is here for us more than any other media outlet.

I think it will fold eventually because, the listening figures are plummeting again, DAB switchover has now been delayed and there are no plans to switch 6music to FM!

Out of interest, where has it been noted that listening figures have been plummeting again? I remember them saying that 6 Music had got it's highest figures ever very recently, shame they can't get it on FM though, I'd rather have that station on air than Heart 106.2 (more music variety translates into the same 12 songs played in a different order, every hour)

I thought someone said it on here......but even if they haven't I think now the hype is over the listening figures will drop. most people have to go out of there way to listen to dab.

Razorsharpe, Why bother posting in a thread you're not interested in then?

Duck, you're probably right, people do tune into things more when it becomes under threat. For example although Doctor Who was doing fairly well in the 80's getting 6.5-7.5 million viewers each week, which back then was on the borders of being a "flop", Michael Grade decided to cancel it, which resulted in campaigns & an upshot in viewers for the rest of Season 22. However the show eventually kept losing viewers once it was saved & eventually got cancelled by Season 26.

I don't think that'll be the case so much for 6Music as if those that tuned in enjoyed the music they'll keep coming back, with Who back then it only was kept on air for four more years because people didn't want a long running show cancelled, even though a lot of those fighting for it didn't watch it any more anyway.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH

Take it you dont listen to Moyles

I got the reference to Comedy Dave's 'catchphrase' just didn't see the relevance in this particular thread other that you were using a show reference to demonstrate your lack of interest in the subject, and I just thought as an BBC employee you'd be interested in major BBC Trust decisions.

RazorShapre wrote:How many times a show(strike that), a hour does Chris have a dig at the BBC?

Radio 6 is taking figures away from people listening to Radio 1. The sooner it gets binned the better.

but by having a dig he's showing an interest (although much of it is for comic effect) coming on a thread and stating 'yawn no one cares' adds very little to the discourse and means either you're totally apathetic or (more likely) a bit of a troll.

EDIT By the way Radio 1s audience was up 9% in the last quarter and 6% year on year although Radio 1 losing some older listeners to 6 Music would probably help them (against the privatisation lobby). Radio 2 has similar issues with ever increasing numbers.

Trolls are mythical creatures who do not actually exist,so by using that as an insult makes you look a tad silly when i all i was doing was trying to have a discussion on the subject at hand.Yi tampon.

I used troll but could of used wind up merchant or whatever you'd prefer.

Yawn No one cares is hardly having a discussion anyway. If you want to go back on topic look at the edit to my last post in response to your comment that 6 Music should be binned to help R1.
