Well if it's not me I'm sure one of the other gents in the Archive thread may edit tomorrows show, if there's indeed a gag :)

or maybe mid afternoon if chris does something stupid because he hasn't signed and is peeved off. (unlikely, but listen to how he was in 2001/2. terrible to callers and pushed the limits.) you never know. He may do a evans on us or a DLT on us....

 So you've been listening to those then, yes he did have a go at the audience a lot back then, in some ways I rather miss his style of broadcasting back then, but then again it wasn't everyone's cup of tea back then (I'm sure at least one member on here said they hated his afternoon show but loved the breakfast show).

It's funny, it seems as if back then talking like that was fairly acceptable on radio, Virgin Radio was similar with DJ's such as Jon Holmes & Mark Fox, it seems that the "phone in scandal" of 2006/7 changed everything & now people complain if someone sneezes these days.

I can't see Moyles doing a DLT, he loves doing the job, he's said so countless times on air, I think if anything we'll get an announcement several months before hand like we did when Chris took over from Sara. The other thing as well is, I don't think it's a done deal that he's necessarily going to leave Radio 1 if he calls time on the breakfast show, he may just moved to a different slot, like Sara Cox and Mark & Lard.

Actually out of interest has anyone had a big "farewell" show since Mark & Lard back in 2004? I know Colin Murray left fairly recently but his was more subtle, Mark & Lard's was an out-and-out jolly up with special guests, tributes from people who had been on the show over the years, etc. It also resulted in that nice little final gag of the emergency tape kicking in as they forgot to hand control back from Manchester to London.

For the first time I am beginning to wonder whether this maybe nearly the end - not because of any of the drivel that's been posted on here, but because there was NO joke in the opening link today, NO mention of contracts, or signing them, or not signing them, or anything. Nothing. Unless its been mentioned since - has it?

It did seem rather conspicuous by its absence, the mention of contract negotiations. But then there could easily be a perfectly reasonable explanation for that I guess.

That may have been me, although I said I hated when he was always unpleasant to callers. I stopped listening beyond about two days after his R1 debut on the Early Bit. These days he's only mean to people who deserve it, which is much more satisfying. ;)

Interesting that Aled spoke about 20 minutes or so ago a guest "they're having on the show before Christmas"....

It seemed to me in the first hour and a half at least there were lots of pointed remarks about age. Being nearly 30 by the time of the next world cup and being in his early teens when in luxembourg. Sounds like the kinda things that would stop a contact at the min.

I think there may be a contract to christmas in the offing for breakfast at least- not sure what graveyard shift they'd offer after that i couldn't imagine. But that could be the main sticking point- where too post breakfast.

I think it may have been you, I'm sure Nicola Red also said she didn't like the afternoons at one point, although I could be wrong (apologies Nicola if I'm misquoting you) :)

I missed the first half hour so can't fully comment, however I wouldn't be surprised if he did go in a year or two, he has been doing it for 6/7 years but then again that all depends really.

I sometimes wonder whether people listen to the show or not. Chris and Dave always joke about them being 24/25 and in the teens when things 10 years ago happened!

I'm also not sure how age has ever stopped a contact. Do old people find contact lenses awkward or something?

which bit confused you? The opinion that their age mentioning slightly more pointedly than usual may be a contract reference as he's not in the target demographic and it may have been pointed out once or twice, or my opinion that moyles on breakfast may only last til christmas?

I think it was the implication - which I think you have reinforced - that you truly, genuinely believe that Chris is going to be 30 for the next World Cup which has confused a few people.

I thought some people may well be reading too much into things but that takes the p*ss!

Can Aled please say something? Please?

If he goes at xmas its been a brilliant run. Also not particularly surprising after 7 years.

I know he's not going to be 30 at the next world cup- and am very aware due to having listened for the last 15 years on various stations how the gag works.
The point- which appears to have gone missing was that the age references seemed very much more prominent today- as during countless contract negotiation periods something gets mentioned. Last time it was alot of money talk, and i seem to remember he took a pay cut for his contract last year voluntarily. If he is working out of contract at the min- he's probably realised that making the very obvious references to it he was making last week doesn't strengthen his position any- and while there was still time on the clock contract wise maybe he thought there was little risk of a new deal not being struck.
The last comment at the end of the golden hour on friday almost sounded like frustration- last song on radio 1, goodbye, have a nice life- it was all in the intonation of that that wasn't usual- and i thought that (and so did my other half, who's a very casual listener) before i'd seen it mentioned on here.

From some comments scott mills has made recently when i dip into that show i think they both know the game is almost up- and the bbc network may struggle to have a place for mills or moyles to be honest- neither are radio 2 fodder yet and commercial radio isn't in the same league for either.

I get a feeling by the tone- todays age references seem far more serious than previously- thats all.

It may well be reading too deep. It may well be that considering this thread and not really wanting the breakfast show with chris to end i'm looking for any clue as to whats going on. There are others here far worse than i.

I'm still not sure what your point was MyPurpleUndercrackers, but I'm totally happy to accept that's a failing of my understanding rather than your posting. And to be honest, you could post as much crap as you wanted and still get away with it as far as I'm concerned, because I really like your username.
