Yudster wrote:Of course you aren't, but the point is that considering the fuss that was made about it last year both on the show and in the wider media, and the fact that for a year since Chris has been at times actively encouraging speculation about his future on the show (which again has been picked up on in the wider media and responded to by Chris on air), it seems strange that the only time he has kept his mouth shut about whether or not he'll be staying on is now. If he himself had never mentioned contracts and his future at the BBC then there wouldn't be anything to comment on, but he has, many times, so its no wonder people are expecting some kind of announcement. Whether they'll get it or not is another matter, but given the circumstances its no wonder the expectation has arisen.

ergo... I was right.

1:50:55- Really noticed this "the young fella that really relates to the audience"

Could be reading too much into this, but when I heard this line this morning, I thought it was a weird phrase to throw in.

The opening link over the last couple of days has felt relatively nostalgic to me..... again, it's probably nothing, but all this playing old jingles and looking back to old features - and then today the big discussion about Reverse-a-Word.

No. You aren't allowed to be. You weren't wrong though. A mighty concession.

What were we talking about?

It was mentioned this morning that Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow are due to be on the show at the end of August. So one can only presume the show is set to continue for a good few months yet - what with John Barrowman also due to appear on the show before Christmas 2010.

Talk regarding Dom's Golden hour choice and that he isn't allowed his choice this week because it was late,
Dom:"yeah ive been suspended"
Chris:"tell you what dom, its not your week is it?"
Dom:"its not is it?" (Chris laughs)

Wonder what happened to Dom, maybe it was about his contract.

I definetly think something is going on in regards to Dominic and his future on the show. That line about it not being his week. Constant references to him and relating to the audience. And Chris also made a comment regarding Rod McKenzie from Newsbeat. Chris said something like "I'd like him to read the news on our show when your contract runs out".

Somethings going on.

Yep,also caught that. Seems hes staying for the forseeable future.

As for the Dom thing, there has been a few mentions this week. Maybe his annual performance review didnt go so well.

The comments from Chris at 2:58 on Fridays show is probably the best clue we have gotten this week as to what may be going on.

I wonder has somebody said to Chris that he can have another 12/18/24 months if some changes are made so in their eyes the show is more focused on the Radio1 target demographic. I think Aled, Tina, and Matt would fit into this with Dave and Dom being at the other end of the scale. It would be a pity if they were forced to replace Dom as hes as much part of the furniture of the show as Aled or Dave.

At 2:58 ?? Minutes on the iplayer?

Dom is irreplaceable, you listen to any highlights of that days show,70% of them contain him. Not only has he a great voice for the news on serious occasions but he brings so much humour and banter to the show. Loosing Dom would be the start of the downfall.

Some genuinely hilarious moments when Reverse-a-Word was first invented.

Dom is bloody brilliant. A genunely funny guy and not far behind Dave in importance to the show in my opinion. If Dom leaves the show it will still carry on without him and will still be great, but it would be the poorer for him not being there beyond any doubt whatsoever.

Absolutely, Dom is as every bit important as Chris & Dave, to me at least he filled the void left by Will (as in an older member who gets taken the mick out of by Chris & Dave, normally hair related jibes) & he's bloody funny. Hope they keep the Dom :)

You are correct, that comment was revealing especially when thinking about the numerous other comments about age this week. There is definitely something happening with Dominic and his participation on the show. I just hope that if there has been an issue (clearly there has) that it has been resolved and Chris has got his way and Dom is staying.

Chris said "coz your way too old and still relate to our audience" in reference to Dom.

For me, Dom has become as important to the show as Comedy Dave and hopefully Chris is fighting his corner if he is an issue in the contract negotiations.

I think Dom is brilliant and hope he stays but people say this all the time on the show and when people leave others come in and take their place. Its like any job no one is indispensible but you have to look at all the changes and the stable two for a long time have been Moyles and Dave - its no coincidence that they make the show work regardless of who else is on it.

Dom has his own contract with the BBC, seperate from chris and Dave. I remember he used to be employed by the beeb but obviously this has changed and you have to ask how much work is there for a freelance newsreader?

I hope to fook Chris kicks ass to keep him, his idiotic comments and actions are priceless! 8)

I also noticed there seemed to be less of Dom on the 10 - 1 Newsbeat's this week, I agree there seems to be something up. I'm 18 and find Dom hillarious, a valuable addition to The Chris Moyles Show. If Dom left, there would be something irreplaceable missing from the show for good. Gettind rid of him would be a big mistake. He's also quite comfortably the best jounralist on Newsbeat and criminally underused when it comes to big Newsbeat interviews and the big bullitens.

You are right, of course, but I'm not sure they've ever had anyone leave the show who was as integral as Dom has become and really, it would be a massive gap to fill now.

Will was as much a part of the show as Dom is. Rhys reminds me a bit of Dom - or was he just a baldy too? Lizzy was really involved too.

People just have short memories.

Dom is just a funny bloke, some of his little lines almost off mic often go unnoticed but they're generally pretty much gold dust. I remember when Aled was doing that exercise thing in the morning a few months back and at the end you just heard Dom saying "Good workout" which doesn't sound funny in print but on the radio made me smile. And that's all I want at half past 7 on a Thursday morning.

I agree Topher, there would be a massive gap to fill if Dom left, it was the same with Will & Lizzie for me, whilst Rhys & Melinda were great on air, Rhys was often off on management courses & today has ended up as one of the higher managers of BBC Radio (be it Radio 1, Five Live or Asian Network, I believe he's worked at all of these at some point) and Melinda was a great laugh & "one of the lads" on the show, his departure was the one I was more disappointed with as he was more or less the "third man" of the team, usually being sent on special missions when required.

In Rhys' case I quickly warmed to Will as his replacement as he had a bigger on air presence than Rhys & ultimately ended up being the longest serving producer of the Afternoon Show (just shy of three years), when Will left & he was replaced by Rachel it took me a long while to accept her as his replacement, she just wasn't Will. I like Rachel now of course but it took a while to like her, I think due to Will's departure I never really got into the Breakfast show until 2005.

In Melinda's case, it took me a month or so to adjust to Lizzie, however once Lizzie had an on air presence I actually liked her more than Melinda by the end of her run, because when you heard her on air you realised just how nutty she was at times, plus Chris & Dave called her a tart or slut or the like and she laughed it off, 99% of the time. I didn't really have any problems with Aled taking over as he seemed to be on the same level as Melinda & at times Lizzie so I did warm to him a lot quicker than I did Rachel.

If Dom was to leave it would take someone really special & unique to fill his void, otherwise every time you listen to the show you'd just be wondering "what would Dom have said in this situation" and just want him back every show.

Gaspode_The_Wonder_Dog wrote:Will was as much a part of the show as Dom is. Rhys reminds me a bit of Dom - or was he just a baldy too? Lizzy was really involved too.

Rhys & Dom were rather different, although Rhys was a laugh he had his "Producer head" on at times & so if a link was over running he'd usually be heard in the background shouting "it's time for a tune". Will on the other hand very rarely mentioned that they hadn't played a song for a while & there was often jibes at him not back timing to the news that often.

Will & Lizzie were a big part of the show, when Lizzie left I felt there was a bit of a hole left by her departure although Aled did soon prove to be a good replacement for her, now I can't imagine the show without Aled, if he left now it'd be very noticeable. As I said above however Will's departure was far more noticeable, so much so that the last four months of the Afternoon Show I didn't really tune in at all & I hardly tuned in for the first 18 months of the Breakfast Show either, it's only because the competition on Capital FM, Kiss 100, etc. was so poor that I decided to tune back in & since then I've never looked back and have regretted not listening more during those times.
