I've been a caller a few times or Radio 1 I'll give you some pointers:

1) When you fill in the form, make sure you write in the box between 9 and 10 you listen to radio 1 and try and write something remotely witty like you're dreading going to work or something.
2) If you get called it will be before 2pm (the Broadcast Assistants on the show work until 2pm) It is usually Mel or Ros but it can vary.
3) When you get the call from a witheld number be ready to sound lively, exciting and friendly
4) You will be asked any on the following...
General trivia regarding the show, this is a piece of piss for regular listeners, it's usually something like 'Where is Chris from?'
Current knowledge of a recent show, either regarding a guest who was on recently, a new feature or competition
Your favourite team member and why
What you do at the weekend to socialise (you need to sound more exciting than just saying 'I watch the TV') if you don't have a very exciting life then make up an interesting backstory like your a base-jumper on weekends or something like that.
(it's ok to lie a bit, it's just showbusiness, it's all smoke an mirrors and remember Carpark Catchphrase is a feature and not a competition)
You will also be asked more personal questions about yourself

The golden rule is 'Sound lively and interesting' I know they have had some crap callers in the past but it must have been a slow day on the phones for them to get on.

Usually 10 people who fill in the online form will get called, after interviewing everyone they will call back and either you will be the lucky one or you will be told you are the backup caller. Don't worry just keep trying, and in the past they have had to use the backup callers.

If you are selected you will be called up around 8.45 to check you are awake and then called back at 9.35ish when you are in your car.
You'll be reminded of the rules by the broadcast assistant then put through to the studio where you have to listen to the two songs which are always played before the game. If you are a new caller you will be caller two,
when Chris asks 'caller two whats your name and where'd you come from' you have to reply in an excited voice 'Hi Chris, my name is ... and I'm from ....' (you are reminded this by the BA before peing put through to the studio.

I hope this helps you get on air and gives you an insight into what to expect.

Never knew that was the process you went through in order to get on the air on CPC or just some other thing. I would be alright since I listen regularly. The thing that I don't like about CPC recently is that they have the same two contestants for like a week or so now (recently there were two on who were on for like over a week or so, which was a bit much).

There has been every kind of scary post imaginable on this forum over the years I think, but this disturbs me more than anything I've ever seen here.

Yeah I'd have to agree. Scary yet kind of fascinating at the same time. Sort takes away from the magic of CPC!

If I ever do try and apply again I'll make sure that I'm a blond hairdresser who thinks Wales is part of England, in a on/off relationship with my boyfriend/girlfriend (who is 30 years older than me), and likes to spend every Friday-Sunday night trollyed on alcopops down my local pub! :D Oh and my favourite team member is Matt because of his stunning Lego hair.

Hehe, yeh sorry if I've kinda taken the magic away. Carpark Catchphrase is the only regular part of the show where listeners have a direct input, so it would be good for some people from the forum to get on it.
Hopefully now that you know the process involved it will be easier. Maybe if someone from here gets on they could let us know so we can suggest phrases and words they need to slip into the conversation with Chris to make it interesting?

Surely if Scott Mills has taught us anything it is that scripting your "spontaneous chat" does exactly the opposite of making it interesting?

Yeh true, maybe we just give them a random word they have to attempt to fit into a sentence, something for the people on the forum to listen out for

I was on it this morning, and yesterday and I get to come back tomorrow morning too. It's very strange being on the radio. Fun though!

Well done dude, sounded good!

So any chance of a special random cm.net word being dropped in tomorrow??

I'm voting for "shenanigans" :D
