I know that on air you heard the BA & Producer and also heard Chris talk about the Executive Producer every so often but did they used to have a Day Producer, Assistant Producer, etc. back then or is this a more recent thing?
Hey Johnny
Every show on Radio 1 has a Producer and an Assistant Producer - (although not every show has it's own - sometimes the producer or assistant producer works on more than one show). The bigger shows also have a Unit Assistant - they work in more admin areas and work across 2 or 3 shows at a time. The Broadcast Assistant role of the olden days was split up into a UA role (admin) and a Assistant Producer role (production assistant to the producer).
Breakfast is the only show to have two producers. One show producer (Hello!) I work a 4:30am - 1pm shift and a Day Producer (Sam/Rachel) who works a daytime shift.
This is for two reasons, firstly the amount of material, station messages, guests, projects and Outside broadcasts the breakfast show does is much much more than the next show - mainly because of the size of the audience and its bigger budget - this would be too much for one producer to do on his/her own especially when they only have 2 hours or so in the office to arrange it all.
Therefore the structure of the show is:
Chris - Presenter
Dave - Co-Presenter
Aled - Show Producer
Sam - Day Producer
Matt - Assistant Producer
Dom - News
Tina - Sport
Hope that helps.
Aled
