I thought Tom Jones was really interesting to listen to this morning, his life certainly has been interesting to say the least. The show needs more older people on in my opinion because with exceptions a lot of the younger ones are simply boring.Diana Vickers is a good example of somebody who is a nonentity and proved so when she was on.

It was a good interview, I enjoyed it. But it did make me wonder why they can't play anything pre-1990 on the Golden Hour cos it's "out of target" yet they'll spend considerable time interviewing someone whose stories concern people like Sandie Shaw and Sammy Davis Jnr. Inconsistency anyone?...

Yeah I definetly agree, great interview from Chris today. Tom was obviously in great form, and no matter how young or old listeners are they are all going to know of Tom Jones. Hopefully it might give the show producers the will to try some more guests of Tom's generation. Fascinating to hear about him being bed bound for 2years aged 12, married at 16, and the story of Elvis getting his FBI badge was brilliant too. Top guy!!

While I'm sure Diana Vickers is as sound as a pound and all that, I don't think the interview needed to be half as long as it was, a 15 minute slot would have been enough.

Yeah it is shame they cant go older with the golden hours. I remember when Chris had the daily golden hours including 80's tunes around the time of the Radio1 30th birthday in 2007 and they sounded brilliant. Like if Glee cover one 80's track, suddenly its flavour of the month again! Radio1 just need to have the bravery to let Chris have a bit more freedom. Having a pre-1990's ban underestimates the music knowledge of younger listeners.

Is that just the year bit? I know they played Heard it through the Grapevine a few weeks ago but I assume that was someones pick? Either way its one of my favourite songs ever.

Yeah, it's for the actual guess the year part. The assumption seems to be that listeners won't recognise enough of the songs if the year is pre-1990 and so won't enjoy the feature. I'm pretty sure the topic has been discussed here with input from Aled in the past.

I guess you get less texts for the correct year if its before most of your target audience are even born. That said I would have more chance of getting a 60s year right than a 00s one. But I am old.

Yep it has been discussed before and Aled didn't really seem to understand that people have heard songs made before they were born for example I know loads of 1970s and 80s songs and i wasn't even alive then.

Agree 100%. Didn't think I would enjoy this but Chris does bring the best out of people :D
