The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Vernon annoyed me this morning. He doesn't usually, but today he did - if I have to hear him say "sicky-sicky-poo-poo" once more I'll * throttle him, and his apparent inability to talk and press buttons at the same time makes for a disjointed and technically ragged show. But I think I'm just in a bad mood, I normally find that stuff amusing and I like Vernon.

Its not a common thing. You're missing the fact that my default mood is badder than most people's. Maybe not yours.

The thing is, Vernon can be good on the show. But at times, like this morning, he seems to do just enough to get by without trying too hard. He was clearly just sitting in, trying to get the 3-4 hours over with ASAP!

Sad thing is, there are enough people there without Chris to keep it ticking over, or there should be. I would love to know what Dave says to the bosses when he tries to justify his salary or barter for a higher one. Everyone seems to have a role apart from him. I've heard famous people say they sometimes, in their darkest moments, have nightmares or fears of being "found out" and losing their "celebrity". Dave's nightmares must be cataclysmic. Just how someone with no talent can get on a prime time show for so long is simply stunning. That in itself is a talent, I suppose.

Cheers!

I didn't think Vernon was bad either, but it does show the difference between when Chris is running things and somebody else trying to do the same show - it's really not as polished - for instance when he realises the opening link has run out of steam and he goes straight into a record without playing the Cheesy Out, but I guess to do that seamlessly you have to anticipate when it's going to come to a natural end and hit the jingle 30 seconds or so earlier.

I like Vernon a lot, but this isnt good. When he covers for Chris the show is so stilted and awkward. They all sound too polite to each other and conversation never flows. I dont know what comes over Vernon, because he is usually so chatty, but he dries up when doing breakfast.

Sara Cox would be better. I would LOVE to hear her filling in for Moyles in these circumstances.

I thought it was alright tbh. Fincham's samples game was quite good, CPC was a little bit of a shambles (in a good way), especially the interruption of the bums. I need a bit of bumming to start my day. As long as no nickleback is played, things will be fine.

To Candyman and Latina. All I can say is you did'nt miss much, and looks like Vernon is back tomorrow, all I can say is if Rachel was producing she of been delighted, too many records, and so coporate, how many times did he promote R1 stuff and to check out the website I lost count, just cant see whats so good about him, he just, well ordinary at best. Ill be back to listen to jay Kay and thats it, whats wrong with Dave, dont they trust him, does okay on Radio 5, give him at least one go.

GOD you lot are harsh.

Vernon used Chris' script today so played all the songs that Chris has. We didn't need to schedule any more than is normal. If Vernon played more it would have been at maximum 2 over the course of the show. They're just spaced out more. There have been shows that Chris has played that many songs.

As for the bumming - you can't possibly expect someone to step in and on day 1 get all of that detail. Not even Chris would have done that. These are things that Chris has built up over years of doing the shows.

No-one else (bar The Surgery perhaps) has links as long as Chris on Radio 1 so it goes against the grain for Radio 1 presenters to be able to talk as long as Chris does (go back to when Chris started in Jan 04 and you'll see not even Chris did it) so give Vernon a break please!

Every Chris Moyles Show feature was covered including a show that included 5/6 of The Chris Moyles Show team. All this achieved with only an hour's extra production time to ensure Vernon was up to speed. Half full rather than half empty please?

Aled. I understand where you are coming from. But i think that many of us feel that you or dave could have a go at the show. Why bring vernon in when the show has you. (your show plus you did the birthday show in 2007 which was enjoyable) and from what i heard when dave drove the show when chris went too see the queen. It wasn't that bad.

Why bring vernon in when we can have you, or dave too front the show.

Aled, I accept everything you say. And I would never knock Vernon for what he does when he fills in, especially the techie stuff, as that cant be picked up straight away.

But the chemistry that I am sure he has with you all off air just doesn't come across when he is on air. It must be difficult for him and he does a good job all in all, it is just that it seems a little forced when he covers Chris. It was the same during kilimanjaro when he had far more time to prepare.

I am not criticising at all! Just giving my opinion. And if it was Scott filling in tomorrow I guarantee you I would not be listening, but for Vernon I will tune in as normal :D

I was joking about that, I went for a tacky gay sex line :p I thought the show was good, the only bit I didnt like was the anagram question in the pub quiz, cos I can never do those, I much prefer the maths question. :p

I think Vernon's a half-wit, but I had the option of not listening to him today, which I took. What I'd really like is for Aled to explain the reason/s why Dave can't become the main presenter of the show on an occasion like this. It's hardly a massive challenge to be a sidekick to someone for over ten years and then to step into their shoes for a few days, and to me makes far more sense than bringing in a person who has no connection to the show.

If I were Dave I'd take not being chosen to drive the show as a massive insult, and a kick in the teeth from my bosses. Of course, we don't know whether Dave was asked to do it but didn't want to for some reason, but for me, I'd love to hear him run the show for a day. With Aled to help him he shouldn't be able to make too much of a shambles of it surely!

Aled in fairness, the majority of posts since the show this morning have been positive for Vernon. Although as you said 5/6 of the normal team were there, in terms of on-air personalitys on the show the share for Chris is definetly in excess of 5/6. For instance if Matt was off for a month there would hardly be a drop in listeners, but you coulden't say the same if Chris was missing for the same time. Its unfair to expect everybody here to give Vernon 5 stars for the show today. Just like how some people like carrots but dislike broccoli, some like Vernon others don't! I myself would have preferred to see Sara or Greg fill in today but thats just everybodys personal preference but I'll still be listening to the show tomorrow on the i-player regardless. Anyway some of the mix ups today I thought added to the humour of the show. :D

You've only got to listen to the bits where Chris is late for the show or a few seconds late back for a link to know this couldn't happen without sounding very awkward. I couldn't see them stretching this out for a 3.5hr show - don't forget that's the longest mainstream show on the network, plus there's far more talk than you'd have on other shows. It's unfair to put someone with limited presenter experience, and certainly not for that amount of time, into that cauldron of fire. Vernon is just a safe pair of hands, someone with plenty of presenting experience on the network. It's not as good as when Chris is there but that's why it's called The Chris Moyles Show, he's been on Radio 1 for 13 years and he gets paid handsomely for it.

As for Dave, he's always had the role of a sidekick when presenting, both on radio (Chappers, Football Express) and TV (that sports thing on Nuts TV). Again, I think it'd be hard to go into a main presenter role, especially at such short notice.

The only thing that annoyed me in the slightest was Matt Fincham rushed the sample game, not giving Vernon and Dave any time to think about it and talked over most of the tracks while they played. Calm down Matt!!! hehe

looking forward to Jay Kay on the show tomorrow, whoever is presenting!!

That's part of the reason I'd like it hear it. As a one off I think it'd make for entertaining listening.

I would like to see Dave host, I for one am all for him having at least hosting once. It seems I didn't miss much this morning, although will tune for Jay Kay at least. Knowing our luck Dave will call us idiots for slagging the show without Chris and who say cares what we think, even though were supporting him and have faith in him even if some dont!.
