The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I am sure that this has been discussed ad nauseum on here but I am new so please forgive me.

Would you be more or less likely to listen if they increased the number of songs they played?

In the opening link this morning Chris said that Executive Producer Piers had been asking them to play more music because he thought it would increase the listening figures. I would be less inclined to listen if they played more music because I enjoy the chatter among the team. If it became likes Scott's show where he inhales, plays a tune, tells us to stayed tuned because something exciting will happen in two records' time, plays two tunes, exhales, plays another tune etc I would be saddened.

Well, it's Chris so I would listen regardless.. however, I don't like most of the playlisted songs, so as far as I'm concerned, the less they play music the better.

Yeah, I also think R1 plays some pap. Yes, some great stuff, but some absolute bobbins too (basshunter, for example). I listen for Chris n team, not the music. Don't get my wrong, i'm no oldie who thinks all new music is crud, far from it, but some of the playlist stuff is obviously aimed at people half my age!

I would still listen, I don't mind the music, but I prefer the chat. Music I can listen to anywhere, but Chris and the team is at a premium.

I used to find that worse when I listened to R1 for more of the day, but as I now limit myself to CMshow (plus odd bits of Mills on way 'ome) its not so bad.

Music isn't why Chris is on Radio 1 for. He is on to entertain in the morning. The reason why Greg,Edith and Fearne are on is to get music out. It was pretty funny with him interrupting the news thismorning though.

I would still listen cause its Chris and even if he was forced into playing more music he would still make the show entertaining. But I think it is the right sort of mix at the moment of music and talking.

I agree with Yudster, just a shame they limit the music they play so much, play some classics, youngsters wouldn't suddenly write into Radio 1 in anger because something older than 2002 is being played, mainly because half of the youngsters these days can't write ;)

The only time I turn off is when that stupid "Enter The Ninja" shite comes on the air.

The reason the show is so successful and enjoyable is because we( the listeners) feel we have a relationship with Chris and the team! Some of that would be taken away if they were to play more music!

Most of the music is played on the other shows so i get to hear the same bloody songs all day anyway!! The only music i like to hear is the golden hour, other than that, the banter, waffle and features would do me!!!

I tend to like the playlist on R1, but as others have said, I certainly don't listen to Chris for the music. I think the amount of music played at the moment is about acceptable, if a touch too much.

We already have the abominable Golden Hour wrecking the final hour of the week, I don't want any more music spoiling the other four days shows.

I listen to every single show back on the iplayer and just skip through the songs. I listen for the banter of the team.

When Scott Mills covered for him about a month ago I found myself skipping through the songs & only getting about 30minutes of banter (Albeit of alot less quality than Moyles' show) compared to about two hours from moyles.

About one in ten songs is worth listening to, so it is an unwelcome interlude. I wouldn't mind if all radio was just talk. I hate having no control over what I listen to music wise. One thing that always gets me is I turn the volume right down when a track starts and if I am working and doing something else I will forget to turn it back up and miss a chunk of the show. Listen again is great because you can fast forward the music!

I was glad to see that Chris' reaction to Piers (and partial turncoat Aled!)'s insistence that they "play more music" was to take the mickey out of it by starting up tracks during the news!
However, I really hope the "cool and trendy, down with the kids" Radio 1 doesn't force Chris to stuff more music in to the show.

It might convince me to write another parody... like the one I wrote last week when I found out Exec Producer "Weez" from the Daves of Thunder podcast was trying to cut the show down from two episodes per week to one.

This was my response (NSFW):

I can easily see a rewrite becoming "F**k Piers"... :D

Not bad, yeh you should do one for Peirs, the team will appreciate it and R1 management may get the message that if the Chris Moyles show ain't broke then don't fix it.

Listeners tune in for the talking not the music, the current balance is fine.

On the bright side, if they increase the number of them then a song he plays would therefore be more statistically likely to be good.

Deffo.

Given all the music sounds like it's an early 80s - mid 90s cover, I'd be more than happy for it all to be canned.

Or just have the tedious link and a daily golden half hour ;)
