I am sat here watching the opening ceremony on TV, and loving the spectacle of the whole thing - the colours / costumes / music etc.

I seem to remember having the same thoughts when watching the Beijing opening ceremony in 2008 (although this was absolutely huge with thousands of performers etc.).

I can't help thinking ................

What the hell are we going to do for our Olympic opening ceremony in 2012 ?

What's our national music ? national costume ? what are our traditions ?

Ideas anyone ??????

...... (remembers) ........ Didn't we have David Beckham and a London bus for something recently ?

Who cares... the opening ceremonies are always over-hyped tat, it's the sporting events that I want to see.

The Beijing opening ceremony was amazing, but it was so contrived and so complicated, in a way it was too much. Opening ceremonies make a statement, set out a stall if you like - they are important, and I've been wondering what ours will be like too. I have a horrible feeling that it will be embarrassing, cringeworthy, amateur and cheesy (as opposed to colourful, creative, imaginative and skillful). I do hope I'm wrong.

I agree, but when it comes to showing the word that we're proud, we always seem to do it so apologetically........I don't want to be cynical about it, but I can't help being a little worried that we will hit the wrong note somehow. I really hope not, I want to to be brilliant and spectacular and something that people will talk about for all the right reasons.

I don't see why the venues shouldn't be ready, apparently everything is currently well ahead of schedule. Went past the main site on the train the other day, it grows and grows.......
