Well, I went to see Al last nite and he was amazing
A bit of info about the show for anyone interested (if you're going to Minehead or London you might wanna look away now). He wasn't joking when he said on the show that there are a lot of costume changes - at one point he was changing outfit almost every song! And his band have matching outfits for a lot of the songs too. He also mentioned on the show that he has video elements which are fantastic - inbetween songs there is film of him doing fake interviews with celebs, fake public information films and clips of references to him in popular culture (The Simpsons, Friends, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire etc) and they also show the trailer for the fake movie of his life story that Chris mentioned. So even tho he's offstage quite a bit changing costume etc, it never gets dull.
He played tons of his 'greatest hits' including a medley of some of the best, which included Ebay. He started off with his new polka which he mentioned on the show, which includes Lady Gaga and also Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Flo Rida etc, and behind him there's an accompanying film of clips of all the videos from the songs included, slightly speeded up to match the speed of the polka! One of my favourite numbers was Smells Like Nirvana, which has him in Kurt costume with grunge cheerleader dancers. His encore is the Star Wars duo of The Saga Begins and Yoda, which had all the geeks in the crowd singing along
He plays several instruments including the accordion and guitar, and his band are great musicians too.
There were a few of my favourite songs missed out (Pretty Fly For A Rabbi, I'll Sue Ya, A Complicated Song), but when he's had so many albums that's bound to happen, so I wasn't too disappointed. Overall it was a really great gig and I was very glad I braved the walk in the snow to get there! (Also on my walk up a man stopped me in the street and told me I had killer legs, so that was an added bonus.)
