That show is so predictable I could pit it on as my tip of the week an still not be wrong. Also who voted for that jockey fella? Like sitting on a horse is being a sportsman bah!

Also - Wayne Ronney was that not the best acceptance of an award ever? Walked on looking scruffy chewing gum took award from Sven an tried to walk off but Lineker stopped him (his only ever recorded tackle). Makes it all the more funny when you saw sam torrance doing his gwyneth paltrow impression (Its an award voted by Journalists - GET OVER YOURSELF!).

Then just when the show couldnt make me want to hide my face any longer they bring on a True Hero - that woman who is dieing but still runs marathons (not technically a sportsperson but who else they gonna give it to i mean you couldnt give it to most sportsman because they dont do anything for anyone)

Which bring me to George Best a man who wasted a large part of his talent but who admittedly is one of the greatest footballers to ever live. The irony of his award was it was given to him by Bobby Charlton a man who was a great player in his own right, won the world cup and now works to bring sporting events to this country (but is slagged off in the press).

Everything comes to those who deserve it eh?

nice to see you cant spell your own player, is that to do with the signature or just a general lapse. The ones in work thought that McCoy should have won it. I, on the other hand, would then say that its the horse that wins the race and not the jockey.

I agree totally about Rooney - didnt exactly give a good impression.

As for that stupid wasted-his-own-life alcoholic.....err George Best - I don't think he should have got it, just cos I have 'issues' with him as a person, nothing to do with his sporting achievements. It is, remember a "Lifetime Achievement" award - he achieved quite a bit when he was a footballer, but let's face it - that was hardly his whole life. What he's done since then should be enough to give the award to someone more deserving.

Rant over.

Yeah, but we should forgive and forget. He can see his faults now. If he could go back and do it differently then I'm certain he would do.

I disagree - I didn't like his bit he wrote about when he almost cried from boredom when he was receving a bloodt transplant. As far as I'm concerned, he's a selfish git - his last transfuions )note, this is just his last) took FORTY PINTS of blood, and hes complaining. He's lucky there were people out there who could be arsed donating blood. As far as I'm concerned, it was self-inflicted, and if I could chose who my blood would go to when I donate, I'd choose dying children, or people receving chemotherapy for cancer, generally much more deserving cases than a selfish alcoholic who brought all this upon himself.

Rant over......again...

I reckon Paula deserved her award, she has done an awful lot for this country this year.

Yeah millions of people run marathons, but no one has run one as quick as her, and when you think her nearest rivals are traditionally the fastest runners in the world, as they are used to running in high altitude, it is very impressive, IMO.

Alternatively, they could have given it to someone I know, double Commonwealth Gold medal winner and the youngest National Table Tennis (don't laugh, it's one of the fastest racquet sports!) champion Andrew Baggaley... :)

What, the people who smoke 20 a day. They'd come under that catogory. Face it, theres no way of living a completly healthy life, we all put stuff in our body that could potentially harm us. Admittidly some more than others but it could happen to anyone, you can't say who deserves to get treatment and who doesn't. Just wanted to make that point. And while I'm at it, Paula Radcliffes great. She's my favourite sports personality at the moment, simply because I'd love to run a marathon but I'm to lazy to get off my arse and train. It's one of my main ambitions to run one one day. I've seen alot of the woman dying of cancer aswell, she's got my complete and ultimate respect. If I'm ever unlucky enough to share her fate I hope I have half her courage.

WTF did you ever see George Best play football, he played like a dream and was years ahead of his time, he had a touch that no one in the premiership can rival (Only Robert Pires comes close). The show was Sports personality of the year and the award was sporting lifetime acheivement. So what he was an alcoholic but he was the best footballer in the world at his prime and there isn't a british footballer in history better than Besty.

Did you see George Best play? As for him being the best of all time thats an argument that will run and run because comparing era's is nearly impossible. The fact is George Best was one of if not THE pioneer of making sporting superstars. His private life became front page news and for a long time he loved it. He was one of the people who made being a sportsman not only about playing the game an he cant complain now if people make the obvious observations.

I agree that he was a great footballer and deserves awards for that but lifetime achievement? Cant say i think so....

Rich is mr cool! Way calmer than the most of us. (gaspode dont pee on my bonfire with nasty comments please, its Christmas!)
Ah, I cant judge whether we was a good footie player, not in my time. But his lifetime achievements a bit overly considering hes not had much positive press besides his skills on the football pitch.
