The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Everybody's thoughts on todays competition?

Thought it was brilliant radio, and they handled it really well, and all in good humour. Made for very funny radio. Would be surprised if the first person that was rejected doesn't complain...but to be fair he didn't seem bothered anyway.

What do you all think he said? I'm pretty sure he said "Hello i'm a listener"

I think he said "hello, I'm listening" but rushed it and was nervous. I think the outcome was right in the end and well done to Chris for offering the money up himself.

And yeah i agree, very funny radio but they may have been better off not mentioning it.

Edit: welcome to the site btw.

Deff entertaining radio, when they said to begin with there were text coming in saying he didn't say it right I thought that was just people messing about but they were right. To me he said "Hello I'm listener" which is wrong however I think they handled it well with the compromise they came to, I also thought it was funny how much they had to go through whilst the songs were playing, how many people they had check with to see what to do, just shows how many hoops they have to jump through to keep everybody happy, even for a show as anti rules as it is.

If they hadn'T have gone through all that they could have had a heap of complaints and bad press

I thought it was more 'hello I'm listenen' but frankly, I couldn't care less about the outcome, the nervousness was far more entertaining.

All ended well in the end, but the second caller obviously said "Hello. I am listening". After the conversation imediately before he went on air he wouldnt have been in any doubt what to say. And anyway, "I am listner" hardly makes sense.

He said "I am listening", but rushed the last part of the final word. Good radio, but it was obvious what happened. And anyway, I think the first caller should have won. I didnt realise they would be so specific that you had to say the exact words. I just thought the point was to answer the phone making it clear that you were listening to the show at the time they called.

I dont think the first caller should have won. The rules are clear that you have to say "hello, I'm listening." and I'm gonna get this clipped and upload it when the clipper is working again.

I obviously missed them stressing that every caller must be word pefect. I just thought they were saying that you must answer stating that you were listening instead of just saying "hello". As long as the contestant said "I'm listening" or even "I'm listener", I would have thought that would be enough.

Woo this thread got a mention. Even though it was kinda negative. I still haven't got up to that part on yesterday's show (I was at school so I missed it).

How many times is that now that your post has got a mention on the show? We also have 30 guests online now thanks to that little mention.

Oh dear. I didnt hear this. Hope it wasnt as bad as last time. What time was it?

About 7.00 and dont worry he didn't mention you by name this time

Edit: anyone else think the initial poster of this thread could be Chris. Username of Matt2010 isn't very imaginative and he would have been thinking of Matt fincham and its very strange for a first post and they have not posted anything else since and we know he has looked at this thread as mentioned this morning.

No.

Employees of the BBC are not allowed to post under any other than their real name. I would imagine this extends to contractors for the BBC, but unsure.

That's what I thought, but to be honest I thought it was much funnier calling him back and saying he'd screwed it up.

It was actually positive - the negative bit was when they talked about Mr Bickle's lack of understanding of simple procedures and requirements.

I see that I'm wrong now, but as I said I just thought that saying you were listening was enough. The exact words didnt seem that significant to me.

Clearly it didnt to the first caller either.

I think it did, I just think in all the excitement they got flustered.

The combination of realising you'll sound like a biff if it's NOT radio 1 calling, and of not stumbling over your words on live radio must make it quite tricky...

I remember back when Atlantic 252 used to do similar competitions and knowing the girls in the office listened to it, we'd call the main switchboard and then take the piss when they said "I'm listening to the best music mix, atlantic 252" or "I'm listening to the no-repeat workday on Atlantic 252" - If you have to say a phrase, it HAS to be right :)

I've only just listened to this. He called the person on twitter an idiot. What he said about my post on here was fair enough. I realise myself now that I was wrong.

I must must have had a mental block before :(
