Is it possible?

We are into the 8th year of the Chris Moyles Show and there seems to be no end in site. Chris has signed one year extensions for the past two years and when they come up people always claim its the end but with still no clear DJ to take the breakfast show and the Chris Moyles Show still being a huge success, can the show last till 2013?

Yes, if he wants to and the BBC want to keep him.

Which they'd be mad not too, can only see a mass loss of listeners, especially if he did end up in another national breakie slot

Well after having debated this sort of thing for years, I get bored of doing so cos I just don't know for sure, but sod it, I did read some tabloid article about Dave wishing to come out from behind Moyles's ample shadow with his reality telly stint, but I'm sure that's just irons in the fire for incase the future does have different things in store.

The reason it must be so hard to let go is because radio 1 has such enormous reach on this here island, and - time up or not, it's simply impossible to see him doing anything else with such commitment radio 1 demands. I can see Capital having him though, (are they going national?) but if I were Moyles I would think myself entitled to smashing my alarm clock up with a sledgehammer for a bit.

From what I can see no-one has the ability to shake the airwaves like he in this 'iphone, impulse, online, on-demand' era of modern Britain. He would be entitled to stick around for that reason alone. Over ten years at radio 1 itself is a milestone, if Wogan could take an iron-grip on a BBC microphone.... ah well, Moyles unites and actually talks about whats going on and thats all that matters to me, not the age thing. As it stands he's stuck between a yoof, music-obsessed radio 1 and a snobby, 'good old days' radio 2 audience, and if he does get squeezed out by both these things then I hope he has a damn good party when he leaves. Moyles filled the gap, that's why he's still around, it's a very lucrative one too, and maybe Capital should be bending over backwards to keep the 8 million with their man. Nobody likes change see? Time to play a record, phew. :o

Yeah, there was a rebranding. Hundreds of local stations like Leicester Sound and Ram FM near me are owned by Global Radio; they've all been rebranded as Capital. Heart on the other hand has been rebranded as Gem 106. Just so you know! :D

Definitely. I think if Chris did leave Radio 1 he'd go into commercial radio. Radio 1 don't really have any DJ that could fill the space and be as popular. They're in a difficult situation if Chris feels like he wants to do something new, start a new show or move stations or something.

There's been speculation about this for ages, though, and nothing has ever come of it. Maybe this year there will be a few changes.

Nah.... He's not young enough to replace Moyles. That is the only reason to out Chris, so swapping Scott in is invalidating the cause.

Ok that's a fair point. It will have to be Chris for a while then unless they decide to go down the in new music we trust line and move Zane to breakfast but i think that would be a really bad decision

Erm.... Exactly the same point as with Scott. Zane = too old. He is used for cover, nothing more.

I liked Zane on breakfast for a few days, but he'd do my head in if that was permanent.

Hold on, I thought they were really going national - is it just another Heart, where they have lots of local stations and just rebranded them Capital? I thought they had got a national radio station license and were scrapping the local stations for one national one? (Also.. how much must they have spent on that TV advert?!)

As for Chris staying on for a decade on breakfast, I'm sad to say I don't reckon it'll happen but I do hope I'm wrong. Yes it's only a couple more years, but that's a long time for Radio 1 when you think about it (which makes the achievement of his stint on the breakfast show as it stands all the more remarkable). I don't think it's impossible but I certainly don't think it's probable.

I've yet to flick on Capital and find a non-Scottish voice. So unless the rest of the UK is getting nothing but Scots, it's a change with no difference.

Must have it seems.

Judging from the other posts in this thread I think it's kinda half and half. Some shows are done locally, some nationally. Some shows you can hear in say Leicestershire but you can't in Nottinghamshire (i.e. the local ones). I think it's their way of making large commercial networks to try and tackle the BBC a bit more.
