The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

A rather depressing future actually, my home town, Ilford, has suffered greatly due to this, I mean the town has been a shithole for a while, however we did have quite a few decent shops 10-15 years back, the amount of chains that have gone bust over the last few years is shocking. I absolutely hate Tesco's (and other supermarkets), completely soulless places.

I find it interesting talking to people from Bolton who say what a massive impact the Trafford Centre had on the town centre. Thats about a 20 min drive from Bolton but it just shows the impact these things have. There is a big distinction between something like the Trafford Centre and a Supermaket out of town though as the Trafford Centre offers that variety of shops you only used to get in Town Centres. What they did in Liverpool with Liverpool One was far more interesting.

I don't think its inevitable that town centres will die at all. But if they aren't going to they will have to change.

I think the change in town centres has been remarkable already. I can't talk about down south but the regeneration schemes in Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and the like helped immensly. What seemed to be missed was towns like Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan etc but Wigan has built its "Grand Arcade" recently and Bolton has had plans although I think they were badly affected by the recession.

I think a lot of towns in the South are slower to react to these trends, possibly because they have just taken a little longer to bite down here.

What is Liverpool One? (Apart from the bit that comes after "Chelsea nil?)

Its basically a shopping centre but incorporated into the city rather than out of town.

I definitely wouldn't get fooled by Emile Keyway or Taffy Crisp.

I think they're fairly obvious

Ilford's problem is that it's sandwiched between Romford (of which their town centre was vastly overhauled about 6-8 months back) & Stratford (which at present has the second London Westfield Shopping Centre being constructed) so poor old Ilford has lost out to both of these. In the late 90's The Exchange Ilford was advertised in London Liverpool Street station & people used to visit from all neighbouring towns, sadly as time has gone on other towns have overtaken it.

Anyway back to Emile Keyway & Taffy Crisp, either he knew they were fake and took the piss or he's as thick as *, either way funny

The opening link was great today - Chris off on one at poor Aled about not having any Toby LeRone clips available. Best opener for a long time. Sorry Al!

They're having a crack at that Toby Le Rone stuff again now...is this related to that Mike Oxlong thing?

Its part of the reason why it started yes

I think it was the Bruno Mars discussion that started it all, but probably inspired by the Mike Oxlong texter's success in getting the name read out. I did clip the initial Bruno Mars stuff for the sound vault if anyone wants to hear it - I named the clip 'Brian Wagon-Wheel' as that was the one that made me laugh the most, cos it just makes no sense.

I agree. It was a fantastic start. I was thinking at the start "Oh, God. No. Do this off-air", but after about half-way through it just turned into a hilarious bit of radio.
The professional, too-serious part of me was still cringing though. All the way through.

This morning was good too, a lovely ramble. So different from yesterday, but just as enjoyable.
