I once accidentaly saw a few minutes of one of these cooking programmes and I couldn't believe that people watch such puerile rubbish.

A cook? You are an absolute dunce. How the hell is he just a cook? He is a scientist, he has never taken a cookery course in his life. He looks at food in a completely different way to you he knows what should go well together just by pairing the different elements rather than testing them out. Why if you are the best chef in britain shouldn't you be famous? At least they have worked their arses off to get to the sodding top and don't just have a pretty face and nice figure so auto tune themselves to the top.

I'm a dunce am I,and he's a scientist is he,you don't know me and just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm a dunce. How do you know he looks at food in a different way to me,you seem to know an awful lot about me.
As for him being a scientist - don't talk so ******* stupid.

I think you just proved my point.

Well you think wrong then,I am entitled to my opinion and my opinion is that t.v. cooks are very very lucky to be doing what they do and getting paid a lot of money for it.You are entitled to put them on a pedestal and worship them if you want to.

so...apart from serial/film actors who do you think is worth the money that they are paid on television?

also, at no point does catherine put tv chefs on a pedestal. or worship them.

What are these overpaid telly chefs paid? And what is the source for the figures? And whose fault is it they are paid that much? Is it theirs? I'd happily take a large sum for cooking macaroni on the telly. Don't a few of them do quite a bit of unpaid charity work as well?

Just sayin.

Please learn to quote properly. It doesn't help your "im not a dunce" arguement.

i'm just going to hazard a guess, but do you think that the 'everyday person in a good honest job' deserves to be paid more, and those people who get paid a lot don't deserve their earnings? [regardless of how specialised their skill is]

Considering you can't even spell argument you would be well advised to stop telling others how to post.

Perhaps, difference is that I wasn't arguing about being a dunce. Also, I'm not the one coming across like a prick. Feel free to carry on though...

I think with 11819 forum posts he is easily able to tell people how to post. We won't necessarily listen but he can try. :P

I can't be arsed reading all this but how is "cook" an insult and he isn't a scientist just because he * about with some dry ice.

Because a cook is like Delia Smith or Nigella Lawson who just do home cooking and a chef is someone that works in restaurants and professionally cook. Behind every different chocolate bar and every different ice cream flavour there is a food scientist that has created them, he creates food and flavours that have never existed before just like that but also adds fun to it too. He uses science to create new cooking techniques and new food so why shouldn't he be classed as a food scientist?

Tell him to come back when he has some qualifications which don't have the word "honorary" before them. By that reckoning Gillian McKeith looks genuine.

Yes because 3 Michelin stars, voted the best restaurant in the UK and best restaurant in the world isn't good enough he needs to go and get a degree.

This is a really stupid argument (not as stupid as some we've had on this forum over the years I'll grant you, but still). I know Cat and Toph like Heston, but I doubt the people here who don't like him will be convinced otherwise by you saying that you've eaten at his restaurant and it was really good - they listened to him on the show and what they heard has made up their minds for them already. I'd feel just as defensive if we were talking about Derren Brown or someone else I like, but there comes a point where you've gotta just accept that not everyone likes the same stuff.
