Whether he does a good job is more important than £100 to Comic Relief? No it isn't. Its for a few * hours you seriously need to have a word with yourself if you think that matters more than raising money for people in desperate cirumstances.

Well I'm hoping the end result will involve both. And you never know, maybe more than £100 or so.

I can't see that happening. I would say that there are only about maximum of 20 people who visit regularly enough to donate and personally I am giving directly to the marathon broadcast instead

If Chris H is asking to donate what we would have done towards this site over the years then I may owe a bit...

Hmm - donate to the marathon broadcast that involves a team and a show I enjoy and am interested in and a challenge which I can get behind, or donate to someone who might well spoil something I like? Well, if he doesn't spoil it, I'll donate to both.

Well, the community IS the site. It's a nice little site but everything from the sound clips to the commentary, is all the community. You are the site, and without the community the site wouldn't be anything. I don't think I owe anything to the site itself. I do applaud the redesign though especially since it'll be live alongside the marathon broadcast and I may give over it but I will definitely over the show.

chrysostom wrote:also, just as an after thought : could there be some sort of scrolling widget which enables all mentions of chris (including the forum and the team) on twitter to be displayed?

I was just thinking the same thing about this being a feature.

What i'm thinking of is a preference setting in our profile where we could pick one or more of the twitter feeds from any of the Chris Moyles Show team. Then we could have a smallish box on each page which could show the last tweet or two from each of the selected twitter feeds. (With the tweets being links to goto the twitter site)

Obviously Chris doesn't always tweet alot, certainly not as much as Aled i think. But just wanted to say I was thinking along these lines.

Secondly, I was thinking the page header/banner at the top with the site name and a selection of links below it. Just wondering if it would be good to make that smaller and change it's layout.

Lastly, I believe others have already mentioned a smartphone version of the site - this i'd love as my phone usually gets such a crap reception on the train every day it would be brilliant to have the option of a stripped down site.. possibly text only. I expect though it wouldn't be possible to have all the same existing features as the normal forum, but maybe to have a few basics (post/reply...etc) would mean using the site on the phone would be easier on the eye. My phone always tries to shrink/zoom out and the text is always way to small to read when it does all load.

I know some seems quite happy with the current colouring but I have to disagree. Beige isn't really a good colour for anything really.

Cosmetically I think a lot could be done - as long as any caricatures used are of decent quality :)!

Thanks for your comments throughout the thread.

The website is in need of attention; it's fragmented from ten years of ad-hoc growth, and newer technologies present better and simpler ways of keeping it up to date, as well as letting others get more involved in the site. From an aesthetic viewpoint, although I hope that each redesign has seen it get a little better, it's still a high-traffic site which has been designed by someone with no design skill. The offer that Luke and the team at Vivoo have made is generous and challenging, and will hopefully raise a little for Comic Relief. Even if we raise nothing then it's something the site and the visitors are participating in to support the World Record attempt that Chris and the team will be undertaking.

What comes out the other end some will love, others will hate ... it's the nature of things - it's been the same with every redesign we've ever been through. This time you've the chance to have your say, so if you have particularly strong feelings about something then make your voice heard before next week. Although the team aren't starting work on the site until the 37 hours begins, some ideas are already floating around.

As part of the redesign some of the pages on the site will be retired. There are areas which haven't changed for years and there seems little point in keeping them front-and-centre of the site. The material will be preserved and will make its way into another part of the site in the weeks ahead.

The core of this site is the forum and that isn't going away. You'll still have a place to argue, whine and (occasionally) praise.

To the poster somewhere above: this site is all about the community, you're right. It's a group of people with shared interests, which is a great place to start a social interaction. Indeed this site has spawned relationships, a baby and (soon) a marriage. Without the visitors it's rather pointless. But let's remember that the community wouldn't exist without the site. The money that goes into the site each month to keep it running comes from my pocket, as it has for the past thirteen years. If I thought nobody cared then I'd stop in an instant, so I hope (and believe) that everyone doesn't share your opinion.

Let's look forward to 37 hours of Chris on the radio, and some exciting changes to this site. After the dust has settled you'll still be able to pop in and chat, you'll still be able to download your sound clips, and we'll still be posting news for you to read and comment on. Thank you to the 60,000+ unique visitors who have been here in the past month, 57% of whom have never visited before. Let's kick this site into 2011, encourage the new people to stay, and build it into something we are all very proud to be a part of.

(edit: and for those who haven't ever seen it, here's how it all began: http://chrismoyles.net/mw/oldsite/index.html)

I love it when Chris writes more than a paragraph and spreads some wisdom.

Good points raised, I myself am just interested to see how it will be changed...

I think even if I did not like the redesign I would get used to it, because of the community here. It's brilliant. I appreciate all the work Chris does on the site, even though I haven't been here that long in the grand scheme of things. And, woah, the first version of this site looked UG-LY! Then again, most sites did then, compared to what can be achieved now :P

Regarding the communty comment; of course this unique community would not exist without the site, I'm not taking away from the hardwork that has gone in to it over the years and the cost. I suppose I was going off on one and I didn't intend any offence. Apologies!

Redesign, sweet. Community coming together? Even sweeter. A 40-hour show with Moylsey? Awesome.
I'm very much looking forward to both seeing the redesign, and watching the show (because I'm sad enough to actually stay awake and watch it -all-), and of course, if I can help in anyway, I will!

Is there a way of having an option on this site to download The Chris Moyles Show straight from here everyday, as Radio Downloader is just taking too long for me now. They are uploaded to the site clipper on here anyway aren't they?

Hi Luke,

I'm crap with design so wont really make any suggestions. A key spelling error I have spotted though is that it's minute and not minuet, you have spelt this wrong on your post and on twitter.

I do hope someone has taken a site backup before the rebrand starts. I say this with no malice intended but a level of uncertainty about where the site will be heading and whether the design will be embraced by those on here as you have now come to see are a vocal bunch.

Best of luck with the rebrand.

Looking forward to see what's gonna happen here.

I've thought of another design change I'd like to propose - changing the forum account creation process. I know nothing about the coding or setup of the various forum "engines"(?), however if something could be done to change it then it might mean we get less of these spammers who seem to enjoy golfing/movies/car mechanics, etc...

Has this been mentioned on air by Chris yet? Would be nice if he gave it a quick mention especially as they might struggle for content later on!
