The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

so at the ripe old age of 31 dose that mean i now too old and have to listen to radio 2 in my truck every day? :{

The bit I've bolded, I have to ask why not? What does his age matter, I mean Andy Parfitt & Ben Cooper must be in their mid to late 40's by now, by that theory they should both have been dropped long ago. I thought the BBC was trying to stamp out ageism?

See I don't see it as an age thing, the problem was those personalities were massive celebs at the time. The Roadshows etc were just a bandwagon to generate popularity and celebrity for the DJ's who were then able to demand more and more, whilst caring less and less about the quality of the broadcasting they were employed in.

Although Chris and Mills do this a bit, it's no where near what it was.

I loved the unofficial DLT site back in the day.

Andy Parfitt and Ben Cooper wear hoodies! And jeans! Yeah, they're down with the kids. Cowabunga! Eat my shorts!

I think the schedule is great as it is. I wouldn't want a music-enthusiast in the morning as it's proven that Chris' talk-filled links are popular and they're far easier to wake up with. I like Gregg, but I don't think he'd fit the morning as well. Scott is ok, but as we'll see again this week, plays too much music and doesn't compare with Chris and team. I like Nick Grimshaw a lot, but he's very music minded and plays a lot of stuff (and not playlist tastes).

Greg probably IS the most suited of the rest, but not yet and I don't think the schedule needs shuffling any time soon.

I thought it was interesting that Chris mentioned that Exec producer Rhys had said he didn't have to do a long chunk of talking to start the show on the Thursday of the marathon if he didn't feel like it.

Does that mean that R1 management now actively encourage the opening monologue rather than it being something that they tolerate but would prefer him to play a record?

Well, it's a formula that can work, as Chris has shown, but only if the right person is doing it. I've massively enjoyed waking up hearing Chris in the mornings these last 7 years or so, I think he's got a "friendly" voice and manner, if that makes any sense. I think most other presenters wouldn't be able to get away with talking for so long at the start of the show/in between songs without losing listeners.

The only obvious potential replacement for Chris is Sara Cox IMO. I didn't listen to Radio 1 when she used to present the breakfast show before, but whenever she's stood in for Chris I've really enjoyed listening to her, and I LOVE her sense of humour.

Mills is a pile of shit though, even if he is capable of talking for half an hour it will never be worth listening to.

Just because what we like about Chris is that he plays very little music and talks a lot, doesn't mean that all Scott has to do is copy him and he'll be ok. On the contrary - Mills should play as much music as possible, because listening to him talk is a truly mind numbing experience which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

CM: Hi @gregjames are you starting on the breakfast show as of tomorrow morning cos if you are I may as well go out tonight and have a late one!

GJ: Cool ok. I'll keep Dave, Dom and Tina but Aled and Matt might as well go to the pub with you. Can I bring back Sting Ring?

CM: I just had a call from Nihal saying he's already signed to take over and is starting next week too... Oh I don't know!!

haha, that is funny

Its good that they all know that what the papers write is trash and they have a laugh with it

I don't think Andy Parfitt would be stupid enough to have Greg take over from Chris, he'd be on a hiding to nothing. Whoever follows Chris, the ratings are going to plummet, so if they have any sense they'll put somebody else in for a few months (like Mark Goodier did between Mayo and Wright) rather than having Greg take over straight away.

I also think it would be a mistake to put Greg on breakfast, but you know how it is with these guys who run Radio 1 saving face. If they make a decision they 'stand by it' for a couple of years as to give in immediately would be a sign of failure. Think back to Murray on afternoons, he was a complete nutter(although has redeemed himself since). Whiley has only lasted just over a year after been shuffled off to weekends. Greg wouldn't work on breakfast any more than Scott does or Dev would do.

I may get shot down, but if Chris did leave they could do a lot worse than to put someone like Sara on breakfast as a caretaker. Breakfast shows aren't easy and hats off to Chris for holding it together all these years. The only caveat is if Sara gets preggers again as she's been a bit of a baby making machine the last few years :D

My bet is that if his contract isn't renewed he will be off to tv land and heaven forbid, the X factor. Although actually I think he would be quite good on that show with his humour.

I think one of the things that makes the Chris Moyles Show work is that there is very little talking TOWARDS the listener. When there is, it'll be Chris, sometimes Aled, and it'll be to text in or describe what's going on in the studio. The rest is talking to the team and banter with them. The team rarely talk to the audience and that's what really is different between other shows on Radio 1.

I don't know if Radio 1 would do a team show again for Breakfast or if they're looking for a replacement to last as long as Chris or just someone different. But it's a formula that really works well and it'd be hard to replace.
