Walk into one shop, theyre playing Slade, next shop Chris De Burgh, next shop oh its Rock N Roll Xmas redone because Gary Glitter aint in vogue no more. So its a vote on the most irritating Xmas song.*

Mr Blobby doesnt count because they manage to miss it out on all the collections.

I've spent a lot of today on hold to a Marketing company who are using a lot of christmas songs for their hold music. Then again, I suppose it beats Beethoven or whatever the * all the others are.

Why can't they have decent music in the shops or at least a radio instead

If you ask people here what their definition of "decent music" is, you will get damn near to World War 3, and that's just a small number of people. There is no way of pleasing everyone with music, although not many people live for Christmas music, admittedly.

If thats the case then why do they bother with music on in the background ? puzzles me. Well I suppose that will change in a few years because more and more people will just use the internet for shopping, Will please me because there will hopefully be less ques

Did anyone know that the word 'muzak' is the music that is played in shops and lifts. I believed it is defined by a 15 minutes contious sax solo.

It was developed (yes, developed) by American Marketers/physcologists as a way to put people at ease and relax them in a shop, hoping they will spend longer there and not get so stressed.

The things you learn watching BBC2 late at night...

muzak is a huge company. they not only pump in that benign swill for the masses, but have their own themed music stations that business can subscribe to. i worked at a coffee shop which had muzak, it was great. i'd always put it on the forbidden channles and then bump and grind with the managers.

and i must go on record again stating: I HATE PAUL MCCARTNEY'S MUSIC. especially post beatles. when will a guy learn that he is not the end all and be all of everything. yoko needs to pop that ego, too bad george can't.

having a radio in a public place means paying for a special public radio license which i think costs more than a license to play cds. (i cant be sure but i think thats what my work told me)

It must be because if you have a radio licence it means anybody can tune in and hear it, but if you just have a CD licence, only the people in the shop can hear it.

But it's probably cheaper to get the radio licence, then it is to get a CD licence, buy CD's and pay someone to DJ in the local Threshers.

I didn't know that! We used to have the radio on all the time when I worked in my local Martin's Newsagents, and we sometimes had cozzers in for stuff.

In many ways I am pleased that it isn't christmas every day because of the naff music they wolud play, But saying it like that means that there would be more christmas music arround( And the shops wouldn't be open).
