Not necessarily the teams fault - you bring someone new into the studio and the conversation naturally falls toward them. But today, I honestly felt Chris struggled and lapsed into easy piss-taking because he couldn't find anywhere else to go. The first link today was Chris talking about his tweets from last night and asking him what he was doing tonight, then they moved onto him playing the "what is Ant singing" game, then it moved onto talking about the lyrics to one of his songs, the relentless piss-taking all through the show (can Chris crowbar any more "Is Olly gay, ha-ha-ha" jokes in?) and then you move onto post-Tedious chat and I hear Chris asking him about his brothers and sisters and X-Factor. Too much, I'm sorry. And that would be the same with anyone they'd have brought in, it's not just Olly, but with him having already been on the show 3 times in less than 5 months, it's all a bit overload. It was only due to the regular features (Celebrity Raspberry, Pub Quiz, CFC) which broke it up.
Pretty much my thoughts.
Olly seems like a lovely bloke, a genuinely nice guy, but this isnt working in my opinion. On the first day I thought he did well, and I still think he is, but the dynamic of the show is totally off kilter. Dom is trying to play a bigger part in the show and Aled is trying too hard.
I heard the first half hour today on the way into work and then tried on a couple of occasions to tune in when I got there but I found it uncomfortable to listen to so for the first time ever I actually chose not to listen to The Chris Moyles Show (other than The Golden Hour and the odd poor interview I have never, ever chosen not to listen).
Maybe I should have given todays show a bit longer but it just didnt feel right. When I did tune in I heard Chris repeatedly getting Dom to repeat some phrase about a toilet (I think) and then I heard a bit about the toilet tour. It all sounded terribly forced to me.
No criticism of anyone, by the way. I wasnt complaining when Olly was announced and I imagine they thought it was a calculated risk, but it hasnt quite worked for me. There is a massive difference between being a guest for a couple of hours and being a team member for 17 and a half.
That said, I will tune in again in the morning and give it another go.
