Today's Tedious Link:

MC Hammer and U Cant Touch This

Today's Transcript:

The lead singer of Echobelly is Sonya. Sonia in 'Eastenders' is played by Natalie Cassidy. Natalie Cassidy shares the same surname as David Cassidy, who got to number 1 in 1973 with 'The Puppy Song'. "Puppy power" was the catchphrase of Scrappy Doo. 'Doin' The Do' was a hit in 1990 for Betty Boo, whose real name is Alison Clarkson. Alison Clarkson shares the same surname as Jeremy Clarkson, who used to present 'Top Gear' alongside Chris Goffey. Chris Goffey's son is Danny Goffey from Supergrass, whose first big hit was 'Alright'. 'All Right Now' by Free was featured in an advert for chewing gum. Chewing gum is popular with Americans, and one of America's finest rappers was MC Hammer, which links to MC Hammer and 'U Can't Touch This'.

Flaws:

Seamless link.

Tedious Facts:

A Bit of Class. If youre under the age of 15 you might not remember this classic slab of popular rap. This got to number 3 in the UK Charts, although im sure you probably thought it went to Number 1. Taking a classic sample from Rick James Super Freak.

Kula Shaker Hey Dude

Tedious Facts:

Taken from the album K, from 1997 was todays Tedious Link. Fronted by posh toff Crispian Mills, they bagged a Best British Newcomer at the Brit Awards that year but followed it up with a contrived unpopular album in 1999. It didnt help matters that Crispian was a bit stupid with his mouth about Naziism. Crispian now fronts the band the Jeevas. Hey Dude was in fact their biggest selling hit and reached number 2 in 1996.

Robbie Williams - Millennium

Tedious Facts:

Love Him or Hate Him, a showman appeal with a massive ego. Severing his links with Guy Chambers may be the downfall for Mr Williams. Only time will tell. This James Bond sampling tune hit Number 1 in 1998 and taken from his album I've Been Expecting You.

NWA - Express Yourself

Tedious Facts:

Taken from 1989 Album Straight Outta Compton. A rap supergroup consisting of Ice Cube, Eazy E, Dr Dre, Mc Ren and Dj Yella. Their notorious song F*** The Police got them in trouble with the FBI sending a letter to their record label telling them to watch their backs. Dre went solo in 1992. Ice Cube left shortly after this album was made.

Lightning Seeds with Pure

Tedious Facts:

Fronted by Ian Broudie, it was unfortunate that the only way for him to gain recognition was to have a number 1 with an England song. After his big hit, a Best Of was hastily put out in 1998 called Like You Do.

Today's Tedious Link:

Wham - Last Christmas

Today's Transcript:

Fairytales are for children, as are bibs. 'Bibs' rhymes with 'cribs', which is where homies live. 'Home And Away' is set in Australia, and recently Al's caravan park was burned down by a bush fire. 'Bush' rhymes with 'mush', which is the international signal for 'let's go' when driving a dogsleigh. The word 'slay' means to kill someone, with a big sword or something. 'Sword' rhymes with 'Ford', who make the Focus. If you have trouble trying to focus you may need spectacles. 'Spectacles' rhymes with 'testicles', which live in a bag, as do rice. Rice is white, as is snow, and when you think of snow and snowball fights you think of Wham!, which links to Wham! and 'Last Christmas'.

Flaws:

'Spectacles' and 'testicles' really don't rhyme.

Uglybob's Tedious Facts:

If memory serves me correctly, the other oldie you will hear will be East 17 Stay Another Day and St Etienne and Tim Burgess with I was Born on Xmas Day. Found on Christmas Hits by Various Artists released 25th November 2002.

Today's Tedious Link:

Slade, Merry Xmas Everybody

Today's Transcript:

Wizards wear pointy hats, and are famous for having big furry cuffs. 'Cuffs' rhymes with 'scruffs', which are people who don't make an effort with their appearance, such as students. Students have long hair and like joss sticks. 'Joss stick' rhymes with 'Bostik', which is a type of glue. Glue is made from melted-down horses. It's horses for courses, but not on golf courses, where their hooves would make divots on the fairway. The best way to travel along a fairway is in a buggy. 'Buggy' rhymes with 'huggy', as in Huggy Bear from 'Starsky & Hutch'. A hutch is a house for a domestic rabbit, which have big ears. Big Ears is best mates with Noddy. Noddy Holder makes a fortune every Christmas from one particular Christmas classic, which links to Slade and 'Merry Xmas Everybody'.

Flaws:

Bostik is more a brand of glue than a type, and most glue is no longer made from melted-down horses. I also feel that Dave may be basing his perception of students on the Young Ones circa 1982.

Released - December 1973

The Verve with Lucky Man

Tedious Facts:

Verve split up in 1995 after they released A Northern Soul. The track Cast No Shadow on Oasis Whats The Story is dedicated to singer Richard Ashcroft. The Verve were originally Verve but had to change it after another band had that name. This comes from the biggest selling album of 1997, Urban Hymns. The Verve picked up the Best Album and Best Band at the Brits in 1998 but decided instead to play across the road for a homeless charity.

REM - It's The End Of The World As We Know It

Tedious Facts:

This was originally released in 1987 but hastily reissued in 1991 to capitalize on the success of Shiny Happy People. There are a lot of best ofs out there but funnily they all seem to contain all pre-fame songs. This can be found on Document which was released in 1998 featuring their archive hits.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Impression That I Get

Tedious Facts:

Do you remember Chris playing Reel Big Fish last year with their cover of A-Ha Take On Me. These guys are very similar but they have been around for 18 years, forming in 1985 whilst still at school. It is taken from their album Lets face It but I found a better deal. Type in Total Rock and you can get on import this hit along with current new kings in town Good Charlotte and 34 other rock tunes.

Push It by Salt N Pepa

Tedious Facts:

"Spinderella cut it up one time" began the song Let's Talk About Sex. That has nothing to do with this song however. This was their breakthrough hit in the UK having been originally recorded in 1986, this didn't hit our shore until another 2 years in 1988. There hasnt been another female rap group that has went anywhere near their type of success. Taken from their debut album Hot Cool and Vicious. Push It was originally just a B-side to a track called Tramp. You might not want a whole album by them so your best bet is Non Stop Hip Hop released last year.

Jump by Van Halen

Tedious Facts:

Yes that is a packet of ciggies beside the baby. Yes they had poodle perms a full 2 years before Bon Jovi. You see Bon Jovi were still behind the times even in 1986. Today's Tedious Link was a fantastic Air-drumming classic. It is taken from their 1984 album which was imaginatively titled 1984. Other tracks included titles such as Drop Dead Legs, Hot For Teacher (19 years before Busted) and Girl Gone Bad. Frontman Dave Lee Roth had the legendary incident where he jumped in the air and crashed his head into a mirrorball by mistake. They dont make them like they used to eh.
