Air and Kelly Watch The Stars

Today's Transcript:

The Wannadies You & Me Song - The You & Me Song was a hit in 1996, the same year that Oasis played two massive dates at Knebworth - Knebworth is also a venue that is now synomonous with gigs by Queen and Robbie Williams - Robbie Williams shares the same surname as Deniece Williams, who had a big hit with “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”, which was taken from the soundtrack to the movie “Footloose” - “Footloose”, the title track from the movie, was recorded by Kenny Loggins - Kenny Loggins shares the same christian name as Kenny Rogers, who recorded “Islands In The Stream” with Dolly Parton - Dolly Parton shares the same first name as Dolly the sheep, and interestingly Dolly the sheep was actually named after Dolly Parton, as a result of the fact that it was apparently cloned from a mammary cell - A cell of a different type is what the Americans call their mobile phone - A mobile phone is a great way of keeping in touch with people everyday - “People Everyday” was a hit for Arrested Development, who also scored a follow-up chart smash with Tennessee - Tennessee is a state in the USA - and A is the first letter of the alphabet, a principle vowel, and also the first letter of words such as “Antelope”, “Arachnophobia” and of course “Air” - Which links us to Air and Kelly Watch The Stars.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Seamless/watertight/waterproof today.
TRACK INFO: - Released May 1998
- Spookily enough, just like yesterdays tune, this track spent 3 weeks on the chart, peaking at number 18. Wow.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - I think this song is awful and one of the worst choices Dave has ever made. Granted more of an opinion than a fact but still.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from the 1998 top 6 album “Moon Safari”, which also featured the more well known single “Sexy Boy”. Which is marginally better. Marginally.

Oasis and Rock n Roll Star

Today's Transcript:

Air Kelly Watch The Stars - Air are musical and French and in that respect share something in common with Daft Punk - The dad of one of the fellas out of Daft Punk was in the band Ottawan - Ottawan are best known for their camp disco classic entitled "D.I.S.C.O." which reached number 2 in 1980, which was the same year that Estelle was born - "Born In The USA" was a big hit for Bruce Springsteen, who was nicknamed The Boss - Boss Hogg was a baddie in The Dukes of Hazzard - “Hazard” was the title of a track by Richard Marx - Richard Marx shares the same surname as both Groucho Marx and Karl Marx, who was a driving force in the movement of communism - Communism is still popular in South Korea - South Korea eat dog - “Dog” rhymes with “nog”, which when preceded by the word “egg” gives the name of a popular yuletide drink - “Drink lots of water” is good advice if you're planning on spending the day out in the sunshine - "You can wait for a lifetime to live your life in the sunshine" is a lyric from Cigarettes and Alcohol, a track taken from the classic album Definitely Maybe - and Definitely Maybe, like most great albums, begins with track one, which in this case is the fantastic Rock n Roll Star - Which links us to Oasis and Rock n Roll Star.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Totally useless today from Comedic Dave:
*Communism is not popular in South Korea, its popular in North Korea.
*The lyric from Cigarettes and Alcohol is actually “You can wait for a lifetime to spend your days
in the sunshine”, not whatever guff Dave made up.
*Oh and all rubbish albums begin with track one too, not just all great albums.

Dave said 3 errors wasn’t bad for “a whole page of fact” - and awarded himself 88%. Very modest.
TRACK INFO: - This track (believe it or not - I don’t care) was never actually released as a single
- N/A

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Noel Gallagher is quoted as saying he said everything he ever wanted to say in just this song... and ever since has been making it up. Hes done a damn good job in that case.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - As if you need to ask - its on Definitely Maybe, one of the greatest albums ever made. Possibly the greatest opening track on a debut album too, in my humble opinion. Just go buy it, theres no excuses.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Just the one pre holiday flaw:
*As you may have gathered by my transcription above, Liam and Noel Gallagher don’t phonetically share the same surname as Kirsty GALLACHER, whose surname features a C. Dave said all three certainly share celtic roots anyhow.

TRACK INFO: - Released January & August 1995
- Reached number 31 first time around (total of 3 weeks on the chart) and then its remix hit number 2 just seven months later (9 weeks on the chart)...

Madonna and Like A Prayer

Today's Transcript:

The Cult She Sells Sanctuary - She Sells Sanctuary was first released in 1985 and was taken from the album “Love” - “Love” rhymes with “glove”, which is something you’d wear on your hand - “Hand In Glove” was a 1984 hit for Sandie Shaw, who was famous for not wearing shoes, a bit like Zola Budd - Zola Budd is from South Africa and in that respect shares something in common with Nelson Mandela - Nelson Mandela once had a celebrity Ground Force makeover from Alan Titchmarsh, Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh -Tommy Walsh supports Arsenal, who last night beat North London rivals Spurs - Spurs are worn by cowboys on their boots, while boots of a sporting nature are likely to possess studs - “Studs” is also a word associated with body piecing and horsebreeding - One of the most famous horse breeders is Jenny Pitman - Jenny Pitman shares the same first name as Jenny Powell, who used to present Wheel Of Fortune but is now a celebrity wrestler - Celebrity Wrestling is up against Doctor Who on a Saturday night - “Saturday Night” was a number one chart topper in 1994 for Whigfield - and Whigfield is a good example of an international female solo artist who only has one name, and in that respect shares something in common with Lulu, Anastacia, Kelis and of course Madonna - Which links us to Madonna and Like A Prayer.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - A couple of “queries” today according to Dave. Hmm I would call them more “mistakes”:
*Tommy Walsh supports West Ham, not Arsenal.
*Jenny Pitman is in fact a horse trainer, not a horse breeder.

TRACK INFO: - Released March 1989
- This chart topper spent a controversial 12 weeks in The Top 40 back in 89...

Blur and Parklife

Today's Transcript:

Madonna Like A Prayer - Another big record from the 80’s to include the word “prayer” is “Livin' On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi - Bon Jovi are from the American state of New Jersey - “New jersey!” is what a rugby player might shout towards his teams bench if he’d just had his ripped on the field of play - “Play” is a word you’d expect to see on the controls of Hi Fi equipment, along with “Stop”, “Rewind”, “Fast Forward” and “Pause” - Paws of a different type are the dog and cat equivalent of feet - Feet is the unit of measurement used to gauge height in the world of civil aviation - Aviation is the business of aviators, while “The Aviator” is a film starring Leonardo Di Caprio - Leonardo Di Caprio also starred in Titanic, which was a film about a ship hitting an iceberg - “Iceberg” is a word associated with lettuce - Lettuce is a vital ingredient in a BLT sandwich, along with tomato and of course bacon - Bacon comes from pigs - Pigs have a strong sense of smell, but relatively poor eyesight - and if you were suffering from poor eyesight, you wouldn’t see things sharply and clearly, and instead would view life as a bit of a blur - Which links us to Blur and Parklife.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Just the two flaws today (there probably would have been more but the text messages froze):
*Paws are also the cat and dog equivalent of hands, not just feet.
*Oh and Dave wasn’t statistically sure whether pigs have a strong sense sense of smell. He just assumes it cos they have “small piggy eyes”. Ok...

TRACK INFO: - Released September 1994
- Reached number 10 and spent 7 weeks on the chart in total.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - More of a rant than a fact attack. Why does Dave only ever seem to pick the same bloody Blur songs for Tedious Link? It’s either this, Country House, Girls & Boys or There’s No Other Way. There’s plenty of others just as good to choose from. To name just a few: Beetlebum, Coffee & TV, The Universal and Charmless Man.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from the album of the same name, “Parklife”. Still seen as one of the best albums of the 90’s, and particularly key in getting the whole “Britpop” scene off the ground. A number one back in May 94, with 106 weeks on the album chart and a Best British Album award at the 95 Brits (bizarrely).

Prince & The Revolution and Raspberry Beret

Today's Transcript:

Blur Parklife - Blur’s Damon Albarn supports Chelsea, who last night failed to score against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League semi final at Stamford Bridge - A different Stamford Bridge was the location of a huge battle in 1066 between King Harold and The Vikings - Vikings traditionally wore helmets, as do policemen - Policemen tend to carry a notebook and a truncheon - “Truncheon” rhymes with “luncheon”, which is the full word from which we get the common abbreviation “lunch” - “Lunch” shares many of the same letters as “hunch”, which is what Quasimodo suffered from - Quasimodo lived at Notre Dame, which is located next to the river Seine in Paris - Paris Hilton is a big name on the celebrity party circuit, while “circuit” is a word associated with car racing and electrics - If you remove the last letter of “electrics”, you’re left with “electric”, as in The Electric Light Orchestra or “Electric Avenue”, which was a hit for Eddy Grant - A grant is what the government gives to students in order for them to buy cider, rizlas and Doc Martens - Doc Martens are a type of heavy heeled boot, not dissimilar to those worn by the army - Army uniform would also normally include a beret - and if you had a beret that was a deep red colour, a bit like the colour of a raspberry, you’d probably call it a “raspberry beret” - Which links us to Prince & The Revolution and Raspberry Beret.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Well, where to start today eh? Lets get a couple of the minor problems sorted first though:
*Batons are carried by policemen, not “truncheons”. We ain’t living in the 60’s no more Dave.
*Students get grants to learn and loans to buy cider, rizlas and Doc Martens. That’s what awaits me in a few months is it? Good stuff. Oh and for the major flaw of the day, see below.

TRACK INFO: - Released July 1985
- Only got to the shockingly low chart position of 25, despite eventually hanging around for a total of 8 weeks...

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Balls. I was gonna try and find out when this was last played as a Tedious in my archives... but they are kind of screwed at the minute so I can’t be arsed with the effort. Fairly recently though anyway..
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on September 1993’s Best Of Prince “The Hits: 1” compilation. A top five album chart position, 27 weeks on the chart, 3 discs, 56 tracks and er... hours of great listening my great mate.

1066: BATTLE, HASTINGS, NORMANS, VIKINGS AND STAMFORD BRIDGE - DAVE DOES HISTORY:
Dave showed off his clear lack of historical knowledge after Tedious Link today in a brilliant 5-10 minute link pre ramble, all about his line in Tedious that “Stamford Bridge was the location of a huge battle in 1066 between King Harold and The Vikings”. Essentially this was found to be true, but Dave got somewhat in a muddle over the chronological order of events, particularly this in relation to The Battle Of Hastings (in Battle). Dave claimed that Stamford Bridge took place afterwards, but once evidence to came to hand that King Harold actually died in The Battle Of Hastings, he was quick to retract his opinion. He then proceeded to claim the Normans invaded Britain on camel back... or something equally ridiculous. A nice lesson in history for you kids.
Dave - Do you know I was never very good at history
Chris - Give over

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Yep again today:
*”Dudley first name Moore” would be Dudley Dudley. Just a slight error on Daves part.
*We also established that if you’re Will, Aled or Chris the first day of the week is Sunday, if you’re Dave its Monday... and if you’re the BBC its Saturday. Silly billies.

TRACK INFO: - Released November 1993
- Reached number 13, spent five weeks on the chart... and is total crap.

- ALBUM DETAILS: - Today ahead of Fact Attack for a very apparent reason. This track was taken from the top 3 album “Leftism”, released in February 1995, which spent 93 weeks on the chart.
- MC FACT ATTACK: - The follow up album to this however, “Rhythm and Stealth” - released nearly 5 years later in October 99, spent just 20 weeks on the chart. It did reach number one though... zzzz.

Leftfield Open Up - Leftfield were the musical vehicle of John Lydon, whose punk alter ego was as Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten - “Rotten” is a word associated with fruit, veg and teeth - Teeth need to be cleaned, as do windows and shoes - Shoes have heels - If you remove the first letter of “heels” you’re left with “Eels”, who had two top ten hits in 1997, in the shape of “Novocaine For The Soul” and “Susan’s House” - Susan Sarandon is an actress who starred in Thelma and Louise alongside Gina Davis - Gina Davis shares the same surname as Sean Davis, who plays for Tottenham - Tottenham beat Villa 5-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday - A sundae of a different type is something you might have for pudding - “Pudding” shares many of the same letters as “budding”, which is what a plant might be doing in spring - Spring is one of the four seasons, while “Four Seasons” is the name of a hotel and a pizza - Pizza can trace its routes back to Italy, as can Robert De Niro - Robert De Niro starred in the 1991 film “Cape Fear”, where he played a baddie who’d just been released from prison - and if you were in prison and had no chance of being released, you might be tempted to breakout - Which links us to Swing Out Sister... nah only joking, to the Foo Fighters and Breakout.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Nah, just classic reminiscing about Dave crowd surfing in a seated position (no spilt beer) to the Foo Fighters back in 2003. Glory days eh?
TRACK INFO: - Released September 2000
- Only hit a disappointing 29 in the UK Top 40, hanging around for a total of 3 weeks.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Great record, and the Foos are headlining Reading and Leeds again this summer (hurrah!). I’ll be at Leeds seeing them headline the main stage on the Sunday night, whereas the previous night they’ll be on the main stage at Reading... amazing huh? Yeah I know not really..
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from the Foos third studio album, “There Is Nothing Left To Lose”, which went top 10 back in November 99. Also featured the single “Learn To Fly”.

Foo Fighters Breakout - The Foo Fighters’ second album, released in 1997, was called “The Colour And The Shape” - The colour and the shape are two important considerations when purchasing fruit - Fruit grows on trees - Trees are a major provider of environmental oxygen - Oxygen is an element that appears on the periodic table - A table of a different type is where you might eat your dinner - “Dinner” rhymes with “Winner”, as in Michael Winner, who directed “Death Wish” starring Charles Bronson - Charles Bronson also starred in the 1993 film “The Sea Wolf” - Wolf was a famous gladiator - "Gladiator" the movie was directed by Ridley Scott, whose new film “Kingdom Of Heaven” stars Orlando Bloom - Orlando Bloom is from Canterbury, which is famous for its arch bishop - An arch bishop is someone you’d expect to wear a large hat, a bit like Jay Kay - Jay Kay is the man behind Jamiroquai - and when you think of Jamiroquai in the context of space and cowboys, or indeed space cowboys, you think of the track Space Cowboy by Jamiroquai - Which links us (MC- rather suprisingly) to Jamiroquai and Space Cowboy.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Er just minor quibbles not worth mentioning, so we’ll give Dave the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.
TRACK INFO: - Released October 1994
- Reached number 17 in the UK Charts and spent 5 weeks in The Top 40...

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Like the Foos yesterday, and presumably whoever is played tomorrow, Jamiroquai are gonna be at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland this weekend... but you already knew that anyway didn’t you? yeah, BECAUSE THEY GO ON ABOUT IT EVERY 2 SECONDS!!!! SHUT THE FECK UP PLEEEEEEEASE! We know it’s on this weekend.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from the second Jamiroquai album “The Return Of The Space Cowboy”, released a fortnight after the single back in Oct 94. Reached number 2 and spent 29 weeks on the chart...

Kasabian and L.S.F

Today's Transcript:

Jamiroquai Space Cowboy - Space Cowboy was a hit in 1994, the same year that the World Cup was held in America - America is the home of Patrick Swayze and Billy Bob Thornton - Billy Bob Thornton used to go out with Angelina Jolie, who now goes out with Brad Pitt, whose just filed for divorce from Jennifer Aniston - Jennifer Aniston is of Greek descent, as is Nemone - Nemone is a good runner, as is Dwain Chambers - Chambers are found in a pistol - A pistol was the weapon of choice for highwaymen such as Dick Turpin - Turpintine is a type of white spirit - “Spirit In The Sky” has been a number one for three different artists, the first being Norman Greenbaum, before being covered by Dr. & The Medics, and then most recently Gareth Gates & The Kumars - The Kumars live at number 42 - 42 divided by 7 is 6, whilst 6 plus 4 is 10 - “Ten” was a film starring Bo Derek, who those horrible hair braids, a bit like that Michelle *chicken* bird who’s all over OK magazine showing off her new fake boobs, because she obviously thinks she is a fox - The plural of fox is “foxes”, which is the nickname of Leicester City - and Leicester City is the football club of choice for the band Kasabian - Which links us to Kasabian and L.S.F.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Yeah, useless link (and track) today:
*Billy Bob Thornton was actually married to Angelina Jolie
*Jennifer Aniston filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, not the other way round
*Musket is arguably the weapon of choice for highwaymen such as Dick Turpin
*It’s “Turpentine” not Turpintine...

TRACK INFO: - Released August 2004
- Reached number 10, but is too modern for my little old book here to tell me how long it was in the chart... sincere apologies.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - They are from Leicester and cite The Rolling Stones, Happy Mondays and Primal Scream among their rock influences... that’ll do.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from their self titled debut “Kasabian”, a top four hit back in September of last year. Which by the way, is sh*te. Thank god I was lent it and never bought it... three good tracks max (not including this btw).

Elvis Presley and Can't Help Falling In Love

Today's Transcript:

Kasabian L.S.F - Kasabian are playing Radio 1’s Big Weekend here in Sunderland tomorrow, and have a lead singer called Tom - Tom is also the name of one half of The Chemical Brothers, who are also on tomorrows bill - Bill Beaumont used to be on A Question Of Sport along with Ian Botham and David Coleman - David Coleman shares the same surname as Fulham manager Chris Coleman, while the name “Coleman” is also synonymous with mustard - Mustard is often served with roast beef - Beef comes from cows - Cows live in a field - “Field Of Dreams” is a crap film about baseball starring Kevin Costner - Kevin Costner shares the same christian name as former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, who is now at Southampton, who could quite possibly be facing relegation from the Premiership, to make way for the now promoted champions of The Championship, Sunderland A.F.C - and when Sunderland secured promotion a fortnight ago with a home win against Leicester City, 40 000 voices joined in celebration to sing the following song - Which links us to a very topical Tedious Link track, Elvis Presley and Can't Help Falling In Love. (I would have thought We Are The Champions by Queen was a more appropriate choice but there you go)..

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Nah, I get the impression no one can be arsed checking on Fridays (me included). Seamless.
TRACK INFO: - Released February 1962 as a B side to Rock A Hula Baby
- Needless to say, got to number one, spending a total of 20 weeks on the chart. Also reached number 3 upon re-release back in March this year...

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Todays fact is more of an opinion to be honest - I am bored to death of Elvis. Old music for old people. D-U-L-L.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Track 2 on February 2005’s Best Of “Love Elvis” compilation. So far 17 tracks by Elvis have been re issued and back in the charts in 2005, all of which have gone top 5 without exception.

No Doubt and Don’t Speak

Today's Transcript:

Elvis Presley Can’t Help Falling In Love - “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” is a terrace anthem of the fans of Sunderland AFC, who yesterday saw their side round off a glorious Championship winning campaign with a 1-0 win over Stoke City - Stoke City’s famous fans include TV’s Nick Hancock, off of They Think It’s All Over - “They Think It’s All Over” is a now famous quotation that was first uttered in 1966 by the late Kenneth Wolstenholme - Kenneth Wolstenholme shared the same first name as Kenneth Branagh, whose mates with Emma Thompson, while Emma Thompson shares the same surname as Daley Thompson, who’s a former Olympic athlete - Athlete were part of the stunning line up of Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland, which also included Katie Tunstall, Rooster, Natalie Imbruglia, Kasabian, The Chemical Brothers, The Foo Fighters, The Bravery, Lemar, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Black Eyed Peas, Basement Jaxx, Jamiroquai and Gwen Stefani - and before Gwen Stefani started to do her solo thing with the Harajuku girls, she was in a band called No Doubt (MC - and still is I think) - Which links us to a bit of classic Tedious Link action, right by the seaside here in Seaburn, No Doubt and Don’t Speak.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Well the only real flaw was choosing this just seconds after a live Gwen Stefani track... so bar that seamless.
TRACK INFO: - Released February 1997
- Quite rightly a number one single (and by some considerable distance No Doubt’s biggest hit), spending 18 weeks on the chart and 3 at number one.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Gwen’s brother Eric Stefani used to be a member of said band No Doubt until he left in 1994. To eventually work as an animator for The Simpsons as it turns out. FACT.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on No Doubt’s 1992-2003 Best Of CD, which is well worth buying if you’ve a few bob going spare. Only £9.99 on play.com at the minute too..

Oasis and She’s Electric

Today's Transcript:

No Doubt Don’t Speak - Yesterday’s Tedious Link choice of No Doubt and Don’t Speak, as we just said, was live standing on the beach - “The Beach” was the title of a movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio, the soundtrack to which featured the All Saints track “Pure Shores” - If you remove the R from “shores” you’re left with “shoes”, which are very muddy after this weekend - “Weekend” was a top 12 hit in 2003 for Scooter - Scooter are from Germany, as are Jürgen Klinsmann and Boris Becker - Boris Becker was once apparently caught with his pants down in the aptly named London restaurant “Nobu” - If you reverse the letter sequence of Nobu and replace the B for a D you get “Udon”, which I think are a type of noodle - “Noodle” rhymes with “poodle”, which is a short and curly French dog - The plural of dog is dogs, which should be kept on a lead in public - Public is the opposite of private - “Private Parts” was a film about and starring the American DJ Howard Stern - Stern John plays his football for Coventry City - Coventry City are one of the many clubs managed by Peter Reid, as are Manchester City, who count amongst their numerous celebrity fans, Noel and Liam Gallagher, who along with the rest of Oasis, we’ll see tonight in concert in London - Which links us by way of a little warm up, to Oasis and She’s Electric

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Nope... Flawless, like The Ones.
TRACK INFO: - N/A
- Never released as a single, and just goes to show the amount of superb tracks on this album, which shockingly is ten years old later this year.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Don’t Believe The Truth... countdown minus 20 days. All you need really ain’t it?
- ALBUM DETAILS: - As if you didn’t know already, taken from “(What's The Story) Morning Glory?”... weeeeeeeeellll, need a little time to wake up, wake up!!! ahem.

Guns 'N' Roses and Sweet Child O' Mine

Today's Transcript:

Oasis She’s Electric - “She’s Electric” is the way you might describe a female eel - The plural of eel is eels, which when surved in jelly are a delicacy eaten by * - * live in the East End of London, and are known as east enders - “EastEnders” is the name of a long running BBC soap opera, set in Albert Square - A square in the world of maths is a four sided shape with four 90° angles - “Angles” is an anagram of “Angels”, which was 1997 hit for Robbie Williams - Robbie Williams shares the same surname as Kenneth Williams, who starred in many of the Carry On films - Films of a different type are what you take to be developed, while “developed” is a word associated with countries - Countries are what make up continents, and continents make up the world - “World” is the name of a nightclub in Warrington, as is “Mr. Smiths”, which was a regular filming location for The Hitman and Her, which featured Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan - Michaela Strachan shares the same surname as Gordon Strachan - Gordon Strachan used to play for Leeds United, who are now in the same league as Stoke - and Stoke-On-Trent is the birthplace of guitarist Saul Hudson, who is better known to us all around the world as Slash from Guns 'N' Roses - Which links us to a bit of classic Guns 'N' Roses action in the form of Sweet Child O' Mine.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Two this morning:
*World in Warrington actually closed three years ago, so the past tense should really have been used.
*There are no countries in the continent of Antarctica, so technically countries don’t always make up countries. Hmm. I dont give a sh*t.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 1988 & June 1989
- Originally reached number 24 (spending 8 weeks on the chart) + then got to no. 6 on remix in 89, running for a total of 9 weeks on that occasion.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Axl Rose wrote this track about his girlfriend, Erin Everly, who is the daughter of Don Everly of the Everly Brothers. They married in 1990 but divorced a month later.... you got it, tis a fact.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Of course, from the one and only “Appetite For Destruction”. a US number one and UK top 5 album back in 1987, spending 158 weeks (wowsers!) on the UK album chart.

Jamiroquai and Cosmic Girl

Today's Transcript:

Guns 'N' Roses Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns 'N' Roses’ Axl Rose was born William Axl Rose in Indiana - Indiana Jones the movie character was played by Harrison Ford, who now goes out with Calista Flockhart from Ally McBeal - Ally McBeal shares the same first name as Ally McCoist, who is mates with Carol Smilie, who now does “People's Court” - Caught of a different type is what happens to unlucky fish - Fish was the lead singer of Marillion, who had a 1985 hit with “Kayleigh” - Ceilidh, albeit spelt differently, is a celebratory Scottish dance, while “Dance The Night Away” was a hit for the Mavericks - The Mavericks are from America, as is Michael Douglas - Michael Douglas is married to Catherine Zeta Jones, who used to be in the Darling Buds of May with David Jason, who starred in Only Fools And Horses as Del Boy, the older brother of Rodney, whose favourite word was “cosmic” - Which means basically that Rodney's girlfriend Cassandra was his “cosmic Girl” - Which links us to a very special live version of Jamiroquai and Cosmic Girl, recorded yesterday by Jay Kay and his band especially for The Chris Moyles Show

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - A couple:
*A Ceilidh is technically a collection of dances.
*Plus, spotted by moi and no one else seamingly, how can Dave justify that Cassandra is Rodney’s “cosmic girl”, just cos “cosmic” is his favourite word. If “tangerine” was her favourite word, would that mean that Rodney was in fact a tangerine? Er no I’ll think you find. Fact, I win.

TRACK INFO: - Released December 1996
- Reached number six, spending ten weeks on the chart in total.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Hmm. The second Jamiroquai Tedious track in two weeks? Per-lease. I’m very much from the Mark and Lard school of thinking when it comes to Jamiroquai I’m afraid. They’re dull. No more thanks. (Granted that was more of an opinion than fact..).
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from the number 2 album “Travelling Without Moving” (released September 96), which amazingly sold 7 million copies worldwide.

Today's Tedious Link:

The Shamen and Ebeneezer Goode

Today's Transcript:

Jamiroquai Cosmic Girl (live) - “Cosmic girl” is how you’d refer to a woman who was from space - Space is the final frontier, which is only really accessible if you have a shuttle or a rocket - Rocket of a different type is also a peppery flavoured leaf used in salad - “Salad” rhymes with “Aled”, as in our very own Aled Haydn Jones out there on the phones - “Phones” is a good example of a word that starts with a “Fer” sound, but is actually spelt with a “Ph”, a bit like “Philip” - Philip is the husband of the Queen - Queen have reached number one twice with the same record, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which was included in the film “Wayne's World” - Wayne's World starred Dana Carvey and Mike Myers - Mike Myers was born in Canada, which is one of the biggest countries in the world - “World Shut Your Mouth” was a top 19 hit for Julian Cope in 1986, the same year that “Caravan Of Love” topped the charts for The Housemartins - The Housemartins was the band that launched the musical career of Norman Cook - Norman Cook, or Fatboy Slim as he’s also known, is a top DJ in the disco circuit, a bit like Dave Pearce and Mr C - and Mr C used to front a band called The Shamen - Which links us to The Shamen and Ebeneezer Goode.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Seamless surprisingly, despite the usual protests about Mike Myers and where he was born. Led onto a very funny half time sequence involving www.imdb.com, which btw has now changed Daves profile from “Broadcast Assistant” to “Director Of Comedy” on The Chris Moyles Show.
TRACK INFO: - Released September 1992
- A UK number one single, which spent ten weeks on the chart and apparently reminds Dave of his “college days”. aaahh bless.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Despite Chris saying it was crap, I still think its gotta go down as one of the better records released in 1992. The best by far, of course, being Motorcycle Emptiness by the Manics (who really should be featured on Tedious some time soon by Dave, please anyway).
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Lifted from the album “Boss Drum”, which reached number 3 in the UK album chart back in September 92, and ran on there for a total of 35 weeks. A f-f-fact to finish the week.

The Farm and Groovy Train

Today's Transcript:

The Shamen Ebeneezer Goode - “Shamen” shares many of the same letters as “stamen”, which is a part of a flower - The plural of flower is flowers, which are always a good fall-back present if you don’t know what to buy for a girl - “Girl From Mars” was a hit ten years ago, scarily, for Ash - If you add a G to the front of “ash” you get “gash”, which is what you might get on your knee if you fell off your bike - Bike riders should always wear a protective helmet on their head for added safety - “Safety Dance” was a 1983 hit for Men Without Hats - Hats have always been a big passion for Sir Elton John - “Elton John” isn’t actually Elton John’s real name, as his real name is actually Reginald Dwight - Dwight Yorke is the father of Katie Price’s baby Harvey - Harvey first name Brian, the former East 17 star, now goes out with model Emma B - and Emma B, along with top celebrities such as Dave Morgan, Emma Noble, Ron Jeremy, Flavor Flav, Cicciolina, Charlene Tilton, Keith Harris, Orville, Lionel Blair and Mikey Green, is starring in the current series of The Farm - Which links us predictably to The Farm and Groovy Train.

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Two mistakes on the old Tedious today:
*Emma B and Brian Harvey have split up
*Hats haven’t necessarily been a passion of Elton John’s just because he wears a lot of them. Cue Chris’s underpant example...

TRACK INFO: - Released September 1990
- Reached number six, spending ten weeks on the chart in total (incidentally charting in the month Mark Goodier first took over The Top 40 on Radio 1.. mmm nice chart).

- MC FACT ATTACK: - The Farm's debut album Spartacus is one of the more ridiculous by-products of the baggy Madchester scene, containing all of its rolling, neo-psychedelic grooves and blissfully colorful pop hooks, yet very little of its charm, character, or substance. Oh and I wrote that all myself btw, mmm hmm.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - You can get it on “Alltogethernow -The Very Best Of The Farm”, a double CD and video album released last year to coincide with an England remix of “All Together Now” being issued for Euro 2004.

The Verve and Lucky Man

Today's Transcript:

The Farm Groovy Train - The Farm’s “All Together Now” was re released in 1995 by Everton FC to celebrate their Cup final appearance and subsequent victory over Manchester United - Manchester United have just been bought by American businessman Malcolm Glazer, who also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Tampa Bay is in Florida - Florida is a major producer of orange juice, which the Americans like to call “OJ” - O.J. Simpson is famous for being an actor who starred in Naked Gun alongside Leslie Nielsen - Leslie Nielsen shares the same first name as both Leslie Garrett and Leslie Grantham - Grantham is in Lincolnshire, and is the town that spawned ex prime minister Margaret Thatcher - A thatcher is someone who makes traditional thatched rooves - “Rooves” shares many of the same letters as “hooves”, which are what horses and reindeer have instead of feet - Feet need to be washed, as does hair - Hair can be short or long depending on who’s wearing it, and some people don’t have any hair at all, which is also cool - “Cool” would be something of an understatement when describing a frozen lake, which could be perilous if you were to fall in and get trapped under the ice - and if you did get trapped under ice and were fortunate enough to get rescued just in time, you’d have to consider yourself a very “lucky man” - Which links us to The Verve and Lucky Man. (Classic tuneage - MC)

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Controversial one today..
*Pretty crucially, if you did get trapped under ice and were fortunate enough to get rescued just in time - and were a woman - you’d be a ”lucky woman”, not a “lucky man”. Buggers up the link big time that one.
*O.J. Simpson is arguably more famous for being an NFL American Football player than starring in Naked Gun. Oh and arguably more famous for... no lets not go there eh.
*Mrs Jones (aka Rachel’s mum and newly retired teacher) was also on the line during half time to clear up the rooves/roofs debate going on on the text. Dave turned out to be right in a way so we’ll leave it at that why don’t we.

TRACK INFO: - Released December 1997
- A blinding track.. reached no. 7 and ran for 13 wks on the chart.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - This was the final single released with the band together. They announced that they'd split on 28th April 1999. The first sign of probems was guitarist Nick McCabe not finishing the band's world tour dates in Summer 1998. Richard Ashcroft of course went solo (new album due soon surely?).
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from “Urban Hymns” of course, which went gold in 17 countries and became the first album to ever sell a million copies in the UK in two successive years (97/98). Won A Best Album Brit too in 98, plus got to number one in, and spent 102 weeks on, the UK Album Chart. Not bad for a band from Wigun eh?

A Tribe Called Quest and Can I Kick It?

Today's Transcript:

The Verve Lucky Man - Lucky Man by The Verve was a top 10 hit in the year 1997 - If you were born in the year 1997, you’d currently be late for school - “School” is a word also associated with fish - Fish live underwater, along with shells and sharks and octopi - “Octopi” is the plural form of the word “octopus”, which has tentacles and is related to the squid - Squid rings when deep fried are called “calamari” - Calamari is often served as tapas - “Tapas” is an anagram of “pasta”, which is also a type of food - “Food Glorious Food!” is a song taken from the musical “Oliver!” - Oliver Kahn plays in goal for Bayern Munich, who have just won the German league - League Of Gentleman is a comedy show set in the fictional town of Royston Vasey - “Royston Vasey” is so called because it is the real name of comedian Roy Chubby Brown - Roy Chubby Brown shares the same surname as chancellor Gordon Brown (MC - what Vasey?) - The word “brown” is made up of exactly 5 letters, as are the words “snake”, “denim”, “tulip” and “quest” - and when you think of the word “quest” in the context of great one hit wonder bands from yesteryear, you think of A Tribe Called Quest and Can I Kick It? - Which links us to A Tribe Called Quest and Can I Kick It?

Tedious Facts:

- FLAWS: - Hmm again problematic today:
*Technically at 8:58 (when Dave started to read the link), not many people would be late for school - as most don’t start til 9 or five past. (Unspotted by anyone else this - thanks).
*Chris was also angry at Dave, saying that A Tribe Called Quest were not a one hit wonder band. Dave said they were, as he was classing “a hit” as top 20 only, therefore excluding such classic songs of theirs such as “Bonita Applebum” (no really), and “Stressed Out”, featuring Faith Evans and Rafael Saadiq. Who can forget it eh?

TRACK INFO: - Released January 1991
- Got to number 15 (*cue debate above*) and spent 7 weeks on the chart

- MC FACT ATTACK: - 1). Yes that is Pete Tong’s voice at the start of the track. 2). The last time this was a Tedious Link was on 13th January 2004, in the second week of Chris’s all new Breakfast show.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from A Tribe Called Quest’s May 1990 debut “People’s Instinctive Travels and The Paths Of Rhythm”... which sadly never made The UK’s Top 40 albums (it got to number 54).
