The La's - There She Goes

Today's Transcript:

Moon, first name Alfie, is the 'Eastenders' character played by Shane Richie. Shane Richie shares the same first name as Shane Warne, who plays cricket for Australia. 'Australia' was a hit for the Manic Street Preachers, who are fronted by James Dean Bradfield. If you remove the last part of James Dean Bradfield you're left with James Dean, who's an iconic film star whose image is on loads of posters, a bit like Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe starred in 'The Seven Year Itch', and itch is what you'd be forced to do if you had a mosquito bite. 'Bite' rhymes with 'kite', which is something you might fly in the park. 'Parklife' was a 1994 hit for Blur. A blur is what you'd see if you had really bad eyesight and had forgotten to wear your glasses. Glasses are what you'd have to wash up if you were working in a pub. It was in a pub many years ago that we once went for a drink with John Power of Cast and The La's, which links to The La's and 'There She Goes'.

Flaws:

You scratch an itch rather than itch one, but otherwise seamless.

Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina

Today's Transcript:

The La's featured bass player Lee Mavers, whose name sounds a bit like Lee Majors, who played Colt Seavers in 'The Fall Guy', who was a part-time bounty hunter. A bounty hunter is someone who tracks down somebody for a pre-arranged fee. 'Fee fi fo fum' is a famous line from 'Jack And The Beanstalk', which is often performed as a pantomime at Christmas. 'Christmas time, Mistletoe and Wine' was sung by Cliff Richard, who shares the same first name as Cliff Thorburn. Cliff Thorburn has a moustache, and in that respect shares something in common with Tom Selleck, who starred as Magnum, PI. Magnum, PI lived in Hawaii, and was mates with an English fellow who kept Dobermans. If you remove the first and last letter from 'Dobermans' you get 'Oberman', as in Tracy-Ann Oberman who plays Chrissie Watts in 'Eastenders'. Watts is an area of Los Angeles, the city that has given us many great names in hip-hop including Tone Loc, which links to Tone Loc and 'Funky Cold Medina'.

Flaws:

Seamless link today.

Tom Petty - Free Fallin'

Today's Transcript:

As well as being something that Tone Loc raps about, Medina is also a place in Saudi Arabia, and is the second holiest city in Islam, after Mecca. Mecca is also a name associated with bingo. 'Bingo Bango' was a hit for Basement Jaxx, who are made up of Simon and Felix, which is a name normally given to a cat. Cat Deeley is the host of 'Stars In Their Eyes', replacing Matthew Kelly. Matthew Kelly shares the same surname as Lorraine Kelly, who's from Dundee, which is where Radio 1's Big weekend will be taking place in May. May, first name James, is a 'Top Gear' presenter, along with Richard Hammond. Richard Hammond sounds a bit like Paul McKenna, who does hypnotism and stuff. Hypnotism can help you overcome phobias such as fear of flying. A fear of flying is the least of Rachel and Carrie's worries today as they are going to jump out of a plane in an activity known as freefalling, which links to Tom Petty and 'Free Fallin''.

Flaws:

Lorraine Kelly is actually from Glasgow.

MC Fact Attack: A member of one of the most popular rock bands in America over the last thirty or so years, although they haven't received much chart success over here within that period. Today's Track: Take That feat. Lulu - Relight My Fire

Today's Transcript:

Freefalling is what Rachel and Carrie did yesterday, for about 45 seconds. 45 seconds minus 38 is seven seconds, which was a hit for Youssou N'Dor and Neneh Cherry. Cherry is a popular flavour of yogurt, as are strawberry and raspberry. 'Raspberry Beret' was a big hit for Prince, who is probably even shorter than JK from 'The Games'. 'The Games' takes place in Sheffield, the city that gave us the Arctic Monkeys. The Arctic Monkeys were praised this week by Morrissey. Morrissey shares one name in common with Neil Morrissey, who is mates with Leslie Ash. Ash is something you'd expect to find in the tray underneath a barbecue. If you were having a barbecue and someone spilled their beer on the fire and put it out you'd say "relight my fire", which links to Take That and 'Relight My Fire'.

Flaws:

Problem-free today.

Tedious Facts:

MC Fact Attack: Spent two weeks at the top and provided good old Lulu, with her only number one single, nearly 30 years after her first hit. Also the second of Take That's four consecutive number one singles, which at the time made them the first band to do so since The Beatles. Felix - Don't You Want Me

Today's Transcript:

'Relight My Fire' featured the vocals of Lulu. If you swap the first letter of 'Lulu' for a 'Z' you get 'Zulu', which is a film starring Michael Caine. Michael Caine also starred in 'The Weatherman' with Nicolas Cage. A cage is where you might keep a budgie or a tiger. 'Tiger Feet' was a big hit for Mud. Mud is what you wouldn't want to see if you were at Glastonbury, which is not taking place this summer, along with the Olympics. The Olympics was first staged in Athens, which is the capital of Greece. Greece invented the kebab, which is something you might have for your tea tonight. 'Tonight I Celebrate My Love' was a hit for Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack. Flak is something you might avoid by wearing a special jacket. A jacket is what you'd have to wear if you were working in a cold dark basement. Basement Jaxx include a fella called Felix, although there's another Felix in the world of music, which links to Felix and 'Don't You Want Me'.

Flaws:

Some texters claimed that the first Olympic games actually took place at Olympia, but Dave dismissed this correction on the grounds that he didn't know where Olympia is. In fact the origin of the Olympics is shrouded in mystery, but the most widely accepted inception of the Ancient Olympics is based on inscriptions, found at Olympia, of the winners of a footrace held every four years (starting in 776 BC). So it looks like Dave wasn't quite right on this one.

Manic Street Preachers - Motorcycle Emptiness

Today's Transcript:

'Don't You Want Me' was released in 1992, the same year that 'Deeply Dippy' was a no 1 for Right Said Fred. Fred Talbot used to do the weather on the floating weathermap in the Albert Dock. 'Dock' rhymes with 'hock', which is a type of sweet German wine. Wine is made from grapes, which are a good thing to take when you're visiting someone in hospital. Hospital is the setting for 'Holby City', which is about to get even better with the arrival of Patsy Kensit. Patsy Kensit used to be married to Jim Kerr of Simple Minds. Simple Minds' hit 'Don't You Forget About Me' featured on the soundtrack to the film 'The Breakfast Club', which starred Emilio Estevez. Emilio Estevez is the brother of Charlie Sheen, who starred in 'Wall Street'. Wall Street is in New York, which has provided the backdrop for many Hollywood movies. Hollywood movie legends don't come much bigger than James Dean. James Dean Bradfield is the lead singer of the Manic Street Preachers, which links to Manic Street Preachers and 'Motorcycle Emptiness'.

Flaws:

Hock is a dry wine, not sweet.

Recommended Manic Street Preachers Single: From Despair To Where (1993)
Recommended Manic Street Preachers Album: The Holy Bible (1994)

MC Fact Attack: AT LAST!!! I have been waiting three and a half years for this day. The reason? For Dave to play the greatest song ever recorded, on Tedious Link. The best song in the world by the best band in the world. Granted, my own opinion but still. I've changed the recommended single because there are so many more than just this, but seriously.. just buy the back catalogue if you are interested in intelligent music and bands trying to make a difference... still - after all these years. This song is 14 years old. Unbelievable. I'm so pleased Moyles said it was "a great record" too. Made my day. Lyrics jointly by Nicky Wire and Richey Edwards. (The recommended album, "The Holy Bible", the darkest and most disturbingly brilliant collection of songs ever written and recorded, is pictured above).

Notorious B.I.G feat. Puff Daddy & Mase - Mo Money Mo Problems

Today's Transcript:

The Manic Street Preachers are from the town of Blackwood. Blackwood, first name Richard, had a hit with '1-2-3-4 Get With The Wicked'. 'Wicked Game' was a hit for Chris Isaak, who followed it up with 'Blue Hotel'. 'Hotel Babylon' is a BBC show starring Max Beesley, who has played percussion for Robbie Williams. Robbie Williams is from Stoke-on-Trent, famous for making pottery. Pottery is made on a wheel and fired in a kiln. 'Kiln' is an anagram of 'link', which is what you'd find in a chain. 'Chain Reaction' was a hit for Diana Ross, who shares the same surname as Nick Ross from 'Crimewatch'. 'Crimewatch' catches baddies who are notorious, which links to Notorious B.I.G. and 'Mo Money, Mo Problems'.

Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl

Today's Transcript:

'I'll Be Missing You' was recorded as a tribute to Notorious B.I.G., and featured a sample from 'Every Breath You Take' by The Police, featuring Sting. A sting is what you'd be used to getting if you worked as a beekeeper, who often make their own honey. 'Honey To The B' was a hit for Billie Piper, who now stars as Rose Tyler in 'Doctor Who'. Dr Who is played by David Tennant, but was previously played by Christopher Eccleston, who starred in 'Our Friends In The North' with Daniel Craig. Daniel Craig shares one name in common with Craig David, who's from Southampton. Southampton is where the One Night With Laura tour started, and no doubt there was a queue of suitors lining up for Laura and her big brown eyes, which links to Van Morrison and 'Brown Eyed Girl'.

Flaws:

They declared the link seamless on the show, but in fact there is an issue in that 'I'll Be Missing You' does not actually sample 'Every Breath You Take', but is rather an interpolation (the addition of new material in a performance or recording of a previously existing piece of music).

Supergrass - Pumping On Your Stereo

Today's Transcript:

Van Morrison shares one name in common with Denise Van Outen, who was in 'Chicago'. Chicago has a basketball team called The Bulls. Bulls are used by farmers in countries which are too poor to have tractors. If you add 'P', 'R' and 'O' to the front of 'tractor' you get 'protractor', which is something you might have in your maths set at school. 'School's Out'was a number one for Alice Cooper, who shares the same first name as Alice Beer from 'Watchdog'. A watchdog is something you might have outside your house if you live in the country and are worried about burglars. Burglars tend to wear gloves, as do skiers, who also wear woolly hats. Woolly hats are made from wool, which comes from sheep. Sheep like to live on mountains and eat grass. If you were to develop a genetically modified type of grass you might describe it as a 'supergrass', which links to Supergrass and 'Pumping On Your Stereo'.

Flaws:

Some texters pointed out that it's oxen that are used to pull ploughs in the developing world, rather than bulls. Additionally, Alice Cooper doesn't really share the same first name as Alice Beer, as his real name is Vincent Furnier.

SL2 - On A Ragga Tip

Today's Transcript:

Supergrass' Danny Goffey is the son of Chris Goffey, who used to present 'Top Gear' with Jeremy Clarkson. Jeremy Clarkson shares the same surname as singer Alison Clarkson, who used to be known as Betty Boo. 'Boo' is what some people wouldn't say to a goose. Geese fly south for the winter, which is the coldest time of year in the Northern hemisphere, while in the Southern hemisphere it's hot. 'Hot In The City' was a hit for Billy Idol. Billy Idol shares the same first name as Billy Connolly, who is married to Pamela Stephenson, who used to be on 'Not The Nine O'Clock News' with Rowan Atkinson. Rowan Atkinson is famous for playing Mr Bean. Bean, first name Sean, supports Sheffield United. Sheffield United are one of the many clubs on the CV of Vinnie Jones, who used to be a hod carrier in Slough. Slough is where you'd find the postcode SL2, which links to SL2 and 'On A Ragga Tip'.

Flaws:

Rowan Atkinson is famous for a lot of things other than Mr Bean - Blackadder, for example - but otherwise seamless.

Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way

Today's Transcript:

If you remove the last two letters of 'ragga' you're left with 'rag', which is what you might have in your car to check the oil. Oyl, first name Olive, is the girlfriend of Popeye. Popeye has a tattoo on his arm, as does Sean Bean. Sean Bean supports Sheffield United, who are nicknamed The Blades. Blades are what you'd find in a lawnmower. 'Lawnmower Man' was a film based on a book by Stephen King. Stephen King shares the same surname as Leslie King, who plays for Spurs, who are managed by Martin Jol who's Dutch. Other famous Dutch people from football include Ruud Gullit and Arjen Robben, who should have been sent off yesterday for his attempts to cheat. Cheating should be punished with red cards and suspensions. Suspension is a word you might also associate with bridges and with ferries in times of bad weather. 'Weather With You' was a hit for Crowded House in 1992, and if you go forward just one year to 1993 you get to 'Are You Gonna Go My Way', which links to Lenny Kravitz and 'Are You Gonna Go My Way'.

Flaws:

You use a dipstick to check oil, but Dave claimed that he actually meant the rag would be used to wipe the dipstick, so technically problem-free.

The Specials - Too Much Too Young

Today's Transcript:

Lenny Kravitz used to go out with Vanessa Paradis, whose biggest offering was 'Joe Le Taxi'. 'Taxi' was an American comedy series starring Danny DeVito, who's married to Rhea Perlman, who played Carla in 'Cheers'. 'Cheers' was set in Boston. Boston had a hit with 'More Than A Feeling' in 1977. '1977' was an album by Ash. Ash Wednesday is the day after Shrove Tuesday, which is when people traditionally make pancakes. Pancakes are often found on the breakfast menu in America, served with maple syrup. 'Syrup' is * rhyming slang for a wig. Whigfield was from Denmark, and had a one hit wonder with 'Saturday Night' in 1994. 1994 was the year that the World Cup was won by Brazil, while four years later it was won by France. France is the country you'd associate with the car manufacturers Citroen, who've announced the decision to close their plant near Coventry. Coventry is the city that gave us The Specials, which links to The Specials and 'Too Much Too Young'.

Flaws:

Whigfield was not a one hit wonder at all, and in fact had a further four hits after 'Saturday Night'.

Neneh Cherry, Buffalo Stance

Today's Transcript:

The Specials were part of a musical movement known as 2-Tone. Tone Loc was a rapper who had a hit with 'Wild Thing', which was also the title of a record by The Troggs, who were led by Reg Presley. Reg Presley wrote the Wet Wet Wet hit 'Love Is All Around', taken from the soundtrack to the film 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' starred Hugh Grant, who was also in 'About A Boy', the soundtrack to which was by Badly Drawn Boy, who's famous for wearing a tea-cosy-type hat on his head. 'Head Jam' was the title of a TV programme hosted by Vernon Kay. Vernon Kay shares the same surname as Gorden Kaye, who played Rene in 'Allo Allo'. "Allo allo" is what French people say when they answer the telephone. The French are big fans of cheese, which is normally made of milk taken from animals such as cows, goats and even buffalo, which links to Neneh Cherry and 'Buffalo Stance'.

Flaws:

Vernon Kay and Gorden Kaye don't really share the same surname, and the French are more likely to say "bonjour" when they answer the phone than "allo allo".

Stretch 'N' Vern present Maddogg - I'm Alive

Today's Transcript:

Neneh Cherry has made a record with The Dreem Teem, who are captained by Spoony, who works here at the weekend. 'The Weekend' was a hit for Michael Gray. Another Michael Gray used to play for Sunderland and is now at Blackburn Rovers. Blackburn Rovers are managed by Mark Hughes, who shares the same first name as Mark King of level 42. 42 multiplied by two is 84, which is divisible by seven. Seven is a prime number, because it can only be divided by itself and one. 'One' is a record by U2 which was recently re-done by Mary J Blige. 'Blige' is an anagram of 'bilge', which is a term referring to the lowest part of a ship's hull. It was inside the hull that Simon Le Bon had to survive when his yacht capsized in a race in 1985. When he was eventually rescued he must have shouted something like "I'm alive", which links to Stretch 'N' Vern and 'I'm Alive'.

Oasis - Rock N Roll Star

Today's Transcript:

If you remove the first part of 'I'm Alive' you're left with 'Alive', which is a classic track by Pearl Jam, who are one of the headliners at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals, which take place in August. In terms of numerical order, August is month number eight. Eight is a position at the back of a rugby union scrum. If you remove the first two letters of 'scrum' you're left with 'rum', which is a favourite drink of pirates. Pirate ships traditionally carry the flag of the Jolly Roger. Roger Whittaker is a famous whistler, and Whistler is the name of a ski resort in Canada. Canada is famous for its geese, which can be used as an alternative to guard dogs. 'Dogs' rhymes with 'logs', which are what you put on your fire. The word 'fire' consists of four letters, as do the names 'Liam' and 'Noel', which links to Oasis and 'Rock 'N' Roll Star'.

Today's Transcript:

'Rock 'N' Roll Star' is the first track on the Oasis album 'Definitely Maybe', which was released in 1994. If you add up all the numbers in 1994 you get 23, which is the shirt number worn by David Beckham at Real Madrid. David Beckham is married to Victoria, who did 'Out Of Your Mind' with Dane Bowers, who used to go out with Jordan. Jordan Knight was in New Kids On The Block. The block is where J-Lo is from, who has her own brand of perfume, as does Sarah Jessica Parker. Sarah Jessica Parker is married to Matthew Broderick, who starred in 'Biloxi Blues'. Blues is the music you'd associate with John Lee Hooker, who had a 1992 hit with 'Boom Boom'. "Boom Boom!" is the catchphrase of Basil Brush. Bobby Brown - Every Little Step

Today's Transcript:

An embrace is another word for a hug, which is what you see people doing a lot at airports. Airports are also places where you see lots of trolleys, and in that respect share something in common with supermarkets. Supermarkets are where many people like to shout at their children. 'Children' was a hit for Robert Miles, who once did a roadshow with us in Southend. Southend is in Essex, which is a county famous for playing cricket. Cricket is a sport that traditionally involves the participants wearing white, as does tennis. Tennis is played with a racquet. 'Racquet' rhymes with 'jacket', which is what you'd be wearing if you were going out in the cold. 'Cold Mountain' is a film starring Renee Zellwegger, who was also in 'Bridget Jones' with Hugh Grant. Hugh Grant shares the same surname as Barry Grant from 'Brookside', who was played by Paul Usher. Usher, the singer, has no doubt met Destiny's Child, who are from Houston. Lightning Seeds - Pure

Today's Transcript:

The band Steps featured H, which is the letter that represents hydrogen. Hydrogen is the gas that was used to inflate the Hindenburg airship, which is why it exploded in disaster. Disaster movies were big in the 70s, one of the best being 'The Poseidon Adventure', which is being remade starring Kurt Russell. Kurt Russell is the partnet of Goldie Hawn, who is the mother of kate Hudson, who's married to Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. The Black Crowes had a hit with 'Remedy', which is what you'd need if you were sick. Sick is a word associated with parrots. 'Parrots' rhymes with 'carrots', which help you see in the dark. Dark is how you'd describe the sky at night, which is when it's easier to see lightning, which links to The Lightning Seeds and 'Pure'.

Flaws:

Texters questioned Dave's assertion regarding the cause of the Hindenburg disaster, and in fact the actual cause of the fire remains unknown, although there are theories of sabotage, lightning and static electricity. Most current analysis of the fire assumes ignition due to some form of electricity as the cause, but there is still much controversy over whether the fabric skin of the airship, or the hydrogen used for buoyancy, was the initial fuel for the resulting fire.

Goodmen - Give It Up

Today's Transcript:

Pure is how you might describe mineral water that flows down from a fresh mountain stream. Mountains are where you'd expect to see goats and sheep. Sheep are the primary source of wool in the UK. Wool is a good material to use when knitting. Knitting is a favourite pastime of Kelis, who also likes to drink milkshakes. Milkshakes come in different flavours, such as strawberry and chocolate. 'Chocolate' was a hit for Snow Patrol, who'll be performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Dundee. Dundee is famous for making cakes. A slice of cake goes well with a nice cup of tea. Tea was first introduced to the UK by Sir Walter Raleigh, who I think also introduced potatoes and tobacco. Tobacco is bad for you and if you smoke the best advice I could give to you is "give it Up", which links to The Goodmen and 'Give It Up'.

Flaws:

Walter Raleigh has been credited with bringing potatoes and tobacco back to Britain, but both of these were in fact already known via the Spanish, although Raleigh did help to make smoking popular at court.

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy

Today's Transcript:

Good men are the opposite of bad men, like robbers and stuff. Robbers are what cops try to catch, and when they do they end up in prison. Prison was the setting for the classic Ronnie Barker comedy 'Porridge'. Porridge is what the three little bears liked to eat in the story of Goldilocks. Goldilocks wore a red hood. A hood is what the Americans call the bonnet of a car. Cars is what you would work on if you were a mechanic. A mechanic is what Charlene was in 'Neighbours'. Charlene's brother was Henry, who was played by Craig MacLachlan, who had a hit called 'Mona' in 1990. If you go back one year from 1990 you get to 1989, which was the year that 'Sowing The Seeds Of Love' was a hit for Tears For Fears. Tears For Fears were made up of Kurt Smith and Roland Orzabel. Another famous Roland is Roland Gift from the Fine Young Cannibals, which links to Fine Young Cannibals and 'She Drives Me Crazy'.

Flaws:

Goldilocks didn't wear a red hood, that was Little Red Riding Hood...

Doves - Pounding

Today's Transcript:

Cannibals are people who like to eat other people. 'People Are People' was a hit for Depeche Mode, which is French for 'fast fashion'. Fashion is the industry where the top names include Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood. Vivienne Westwood shares the same surname as Tim Westwood, who's Radio 1's Big Dog. Big dogs should be kept on leads. Leeds this Friday have the first leg of their play-off semi against Preston. Preston is engaged to Chantelle from 'Celebrity Big Brother'. 'Celebrity Big Brother' is hosted by Davina McCall, who was our guest earlier on today. Today is Wednesday, which is halfway through the week. Weak is how you might feel if you were suffering from a headache, and you might describe your head as 'pounding', which links to Doves and 'Pounding'.

Flaws:

Some texters argues that Thursday is halfway through the week, but Dave pronounced them wrong. In fact the halfway point would be Thursday at noon.

Tedious Facts:

Week Released - 3rd August 2002

Recommended Doves Single: Caught By The River (2002)

Pulp - Disco 2000

Today's Transcript:

Doves are a symbol of peace. Peace, first name Jeremy, is the chairman of West Bromwich Albion, who play their final game of the season this Sunday. Sunday is the day before Monday, which was Manic according to The Bangles. Bangles are worn on the wrist. 'Wrist' rhymes with 'Lizst', who was a famous composer, a bit like Mozart. Mozart's middle name as Amadeus, which was the title of a hit by Falco. If you add an 'N' onto the end of 'Falco' you get 'falcon', which is a large bird of prey. 'Bird Of Prey' was a track by Fatboy Slim, who's also known as Norman Cook, even though his real name is Quentin, like Quentin Wilson who presented 'Britain's Worst Celebrity Driver', which was won by JK of JK & Joel. Joel's real surname is Hogg, as in Boss Hogg, although he likes to use the surname Ross as a tribute to Nick Ross who presents 'Crimewatch'. 'Crimewatch' do appeals to catch baddies who are often later arrested. Arrested is what Jarvis * was at the 1998 Brit Awards, which links to Pulp and 'Disco 2000'.

Flaws:

Seamless link.

Tedious Facts:

Week Released - 9th December 1995
Number One That Week - Michael Jackson: Earth Song
Record Label - Island
Chart History - 11 weeks/No.7
Recommended Pulp Single: Disco 2000 (1995)
Recommended Pulp Album: Different Class (1995)

MC Fact Attack:

Pulp were actually called "Arabacus Pulp" when they formed in 1978. They waited fifteen years to hit the singles charts, and this single was ironically in the top ten when Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" was number one. Pulp lead singer Jarvis * went on to protest at Jackson in his 1996 Brits performance of the song. (The recommended album "Different Class", is pictured above).

Inner City - Good Life

Today's Transcript:

Pulp is a sort of soft mush that you get in fruit. Fruitbat was one half of Carter USM. Carter, first name Lynda, was the actress who played Wonderwoman in the 1970s series. Wonderwoman wore blue shorts with white stars. 'Stars' was an album by Simply Red, who are fronted by Mick Hucknall. Hucknall is the name of a town in Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire is also where you'd find Sherwood Forest, which is where Robin Hood used to hang out. Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor. 'Poor Misguided Fool' was a hit for Starsailor, who are from Wigan. If you swap the 'I' in 'Wigan' for an 'O' you get 'Wogan', as in Terry Wogan, who's interviewed Richard Briers, who starred in 'The Good Life', which links to Inner City and 'Good Life'.

Flaws:

Starsailor are actually from Chorley, although they were formed in Wigan.

Prince - 1999

Today's Transcript:

Inner City's 'Good Life' was a follow-up to their earlier hit 'Big Fun'. Big Fun was also the name of the band who had a hit in 1989 with 'Blame It On The Boogie'. 'Boogie Nights' is a film starring Mark Wahlberg, who also starred in 'The Perfect Storm' with George Clooney. George Clooney shares the same first name as George Cole, who played Arfur Daley in 'Minder'. The theme tune to 'Minder' was written and sung by Dennis Waterman, who used to be married to Rula Lenska, who was in 'Celebrity Big Brother' with Pete Burns from Dead Or Alive. Dead Or Alive's 'You Spin Me Round' was produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. Pete Waterman likes trains. Trains are a good way of getting around if you can't drive and don't like flying. 'Flying' was a hit for Cast, who had many other hits including 'Beat Mama' in 1999, and when you think of 1999 in the context of classic records you think of Prince, which links to Prince and '1999'.

Flaws:

Watertight today.

Tedious Facts:

MC Fact Attack:

Texas - I Don't Want A Lover

Today's Transcript:

1999 was the year before the millenium, so you could say that '1999' is the song neighbour of 'Millenium' by Robbie Williams. Robbie Williams is from Stoke, as is Phil 'The Power' Taylor, who's a massive star in the world of darts. 'Darts' rhymes with 'carts', which were pulled by horses in the olden days and were the main source of transport before cars and vans. Vans tend to be driven by idiots in baseball hats. Baseball hats were invented in America, as were cheeseburgers. Cheeseburgers are not a good thing to eat if you're on a diet. 'Diet' is an anagram of 'tied'. Tied is what a ferry should be when it's in port to allow passengers to disembark safely. 'Safety Dance' was a one-hit wonder for Men Without Hats. Hats are something that Elton John likes to wear to look flamboyant, and are also popular with cowboys in places like Texas, which links to Texas and 'I Don't Want A Lover'.

Flaws:

2000 was not the millenium - that was 2001. Also as the daughter of a white van man (who's never worn a baseball cap), I have to object to Dave's statement regarding van drivers.

Tedious Facts:

Week Released - 4th February 1989
