Meh for the last episode from me, I'm not fussed about pirates.

The next episode seems incredible, (deep breath) Neil Gaiman, Time Lord(s?), Ood, Michael Sheen, Old Tardises, Suranne Jones and Neil Gaiman.

Yeah, I mentioned Neil Gaiman twice, what of it!? 8)

Yep, last episode wasn't one of the better ones.

Glad to see the Ood are back next sat.

Thank God I'm taping these, I still haven't got round to watching any of these, however from what I've been told by a few work colleagues the first couple have scared the shite out of their kids so they must be doing something right :)

I really like this new series compared to last years. i think Matt Smith is good as the Doctor, but his first series was not as great because of bad writing.
The start to this one though has been awesome (even if the pirate episode was a bit of a filler...)

Doctor - "This is the Tardis. She's a woman. But she's also the Tardis - and a woman".

Amy - ".............Did you wish REALLY hard??"

Really? I've found this series too confusing for its own good. I mean, Dr Who is one of those programmes that I automatically suspend my "that doesn't make sense" way of thinking when I watch it, but even with that switched off - it STILL doesn't make sense this series!

I want weird aliens, running along corridors and EXTERMINATE. That's all. None of this hatch in doors that is gonna build up to something important in the finale nonsense.

I am loving it, but I do agree that it is getting a bit too complex for its own good. Things need to be established and clarified.

I'm quite enjoying the new series. The pirate episode was okay, but I did like the twist that she wasn't really a baddie.

But anyway, Doctor Who is about scaring the crap out of kids. I'd say it's doing a fairly good job of that so far this year. Even without the running down corridors and EXTERMINATE. It's still got the weird aliens.

And I've always like having to think about my sci-fi. But I'm a quite an odd geek, so I know that might just be me.

I haven't. On my phone it shows that I have but on my computer I still have the Dave photo and I really don't know why...

***GEEKY BOLLOCKS ALERT ABOUT THE CLASSIC SERIES***

Same here, I do however think they've done a rather odd thing of having a two series story arc rather than the one, then again Seasons 1-4 & 18-20 all ran continuously as well, whereas with Seasons 18-20 all the episodes existed so the run made sense unfortunately Seasons 3 & 4 have so much missing that what exists sometimes gets somewhat confusing, for example "Marco Polo" of Season 1 is missing, so you go from them at the end of Episode 2 of The Edge Of Destruction on a snowy mountain side & yet come episode 1 of The Keys Of Marinus they're suddenly leaving Cathay (China for those of you who don't know) in full Chinese clothing.

Either way, still prefer Smith to Tennant, Ecclestone, & Smith both have an "alien" feel to their performances, whereas as good as Tennant was he was a bit too human in the part, something of which when Smith first took over some fans who had never seen the show pre the revival didn't "get" the performance at first, I do wonder how Tom would have been taken to if he had just started last year.

John22 wrote:This series has been an improvement on the last for me, since the show returned in 2005 I would rank the series as such:

Series 2 (2006, Tennant)
Series 1 (2005, Ecclestone)
Series 6 (2011, Smith)
Series 4 (2008, Tennant)
Series 5 (2010, Smith)
Series 3 (2007, Tennant)
And the specials in 2009 were really good too, they would come in the top three four.

And Ecclestone has been my favourite Doctor.

I'd put the series so far as thus, bearing in mind I'm yet to watch Series 6.

Series 4
Series 1
Series 5
Series 3
Series 4b (Specials)
Series 2

Thought 10 & Donna were great together as were 9th & Rose, 10th & Martha were a good combination as well, however I could stand 10th & Rose, it became so overly smug that I grew to dislike the partnership, in fact watching back over the series over the last few months I still highly enjoyed the first three in that list, liked most of Series 3 (barring "The Last Of The Timelords" 2 parter), still liked Waters of Mars & The End Of Time of 4b but not Planet Of The Dead but didn't like much of Series 2 at all.

Well you know more about the Classic Series than me then. I have only seen the start of Hartnell a couple of Troughton about half of Pertwee and most of Tom Bakers run with one or two stories of the others.

I'd put the series in this order,

Series 6 (so far)
Series 5
Series 1
Series 4
Series 3

[Big Gap]

Series 4b (Specials)
Series 2

Rose became annoying with Tennant and Series 2 included two of the worst stories ever. The Specials were rubbish, except Waters of Mars which was quite good.

Absolutely, that's why I rate Season 2 so low, I liked The Impossible Planet (both parts) but got absolutely tired of the character in the end, although I like Tennant quite a bit still I still think they made the character too human, when you look back at all the rest they do have alien tendancies, even the 1st Doctor (who has an old mythical aura about him), 2nd Doctor (again the same), 5th Doctor & 6th Doctors had alien tendancies but 10th at times seemed too human (if you get what I mean).

Of the older Doctors I can recommend the 2nd Doctor story "The Mind Robber", which is a wonderfully psychedelic 60's story set in a fairytale land (actually better than it sounds), the 5th Doctor story "The Caves Of Androzani" which is still to this day (IMO & that of quite a few Who fans) the best regeneration story ever, the 6th Doctor story "Revelation Of The Daleks" for the many great double acts (in a dramatic sense) and a great slimy turn by Clive Swift (Richard out of Keeping Up Apperances).

One thing I do wish had happened however was Eccleston continuing for longer than he did, don't get me wrong Tennat was very good in the role, however watching back Series 1 recently I re-realised (is that a word) what a great Doctor 9th was, unfortunately Eccleston has no interest in playing the role again in any shape or form :(

Yeah saw "The Mind Robber" and it was very funny when The Doctor had to put Jamie's face back together and got it wrong (surely you could tell it was wrong). The Caves Of Androzani was good but i don't get all the hype around it and Colin Baker's line at the end "change my dear and not a moment too soon" was odd..

The best couple of seconds of any story is from the Pertwee story "Day of the Daleks" (i think?) when he attacks an intruder and then takes a sip of wine without spilling a drop. Plus the Dalek voices are pretty poor in that one especially on the word co----or----din----ates which is quite funny.

Shame about Eccleston as i actually found (controversial opinion) that he was a better Doctor than Tennant.
