The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Yudster wrote:Fearne Cotton and to a lesser extent Chris Hollins were both so awful presenting the crowd chat from the wedding today - they went a long way to spoiling what was otherwise for me a really enjoyable coverage.

The obsession with presenting opinions from idiots as important and informative is a worrying trend.

Admittedly I was a little sleepy and disinterested in the wedding, but the lady in the house excitedly insisted we watch, against me better judgement we started with ITV and the revelations that there were a lot of people there, everyone looked smart, that a long shot lot of people looked 'amazing' (that particular revelation was repeated every thirty seconds it seemed), that Ms Middleton would be wearing a dress and most worryingly the continual assertions that Ms Middleton's mother's dreams were coming true and that she'd 'played a blinder'.

Emboldened with the surefire knowledge and absolute confidence that only the most respected, most respectful and most authoritative would provide a fitting atmosphere for proceedings I suggested we switch to the BBC for a touch of class and quality.

Hmmm, the annoyingly voiced welsh newsreader with the terrible diction and odd inflections is on. That's not a good start. I was expecting Dimbleby and Witchell. Maybe Agnew and Inverdale, Sue Barker, Peter Alliss and Christoper Martin-Jenkins.

Oh no, that sports biff has just compared the crowds to those on the last day of the Open Championship and that dreadful Cotton woman is spouting drivel about nothing.

Regrettably we switched back over, but luckily Pip was there and happily he can always be relied on to constantly take the piss.

I enjoyed ITV's coverage - I mean having Schofe on board where could it go wrong? Mark Austin in the crowd was hilarious, he was so uncomfortable with it and they just played on it.

The only time we switched to BBC was during the because of ITV did * up at a crucial moment once again and the sound was out of sync to the picture. It was resolved at some point in the service but whether you heard William and Catherine say 'I will' before you saw it I'm not sure

I literally have to turn the radio down for her inevitable 'MORNING' shout every day, then turn it back up to hear the handover.

Also...did anyone hear that godawful jingle performed by Scouting for Girls advertising her show? Claiming 'Everyone loves the Cotton' or some such bs.

Bad enough that she has to follow the Moyles Show, now she's seeping into other shows with her adverts! AGH!

I've dug up this thread after having had the misfortune to witness the awful Fearne presenting some of of the Beeb's coverage of the royal wedding today, which reminded me of just why I always make sure I turn off the radio at 10am. I've just been browsing the DM online, for my sins, and this part of their article on the best and worst tv coverage of the day made me smile as it pretty much sums up what I think about Fearne. It turns out they're not big fans of Edith either.

'We’re back to Fearne interviewing excitable people in jester hats (what is it with jester hats? Does anyone look good in one?). As soon as Fearne asked them a question and they responded you could see her eyes glaze over.

Her vacuous stare reminds me of that joke about dogs and what they hear when their masters speak: ‘Blah, blah, blah, Rover, blah, blah, Rover.’ I suspect you only need to substitute the name Fearne for Rover and you’ll have a fair idea of what it’s like on Planet Cotton.

Up in St Andrews, where both Prince William and Kate Middleton attended university, Edith Bowman was not faring much better. Inexplicably she chose a lilac outfit so mumsy that both Hyacinth Bouquet and Susan Boyle would have rejected it. Luckily for her, the BBC’s sound cut out before she said something. Oh, if only we had enjoyed the same level of fortune with Fearne.'

Right on the money there I think.

And that is why I watched the Sky news coverage. The BBC by sounds of things should'nt of let he go on her own without adult supervision :)

Mirror wrote:It’s my sad duty to report that fearne Cotton has called off her engagement to American skateboarder Jesse Jenkins... and the couple have now split for good.

The Radio 1 presenter and her skater-boy have had a rocky history after first getting together in 2006. I’ve almost lost count of the number of times they’ve split in the past, but it finally looked like they were stronger than ever when they rekindled their love last March.

Just six months later Jesse got down on one knee in Richmond Park to propose on Fearne’s 29th birthday and Fearne later tweeted: “Having the BEST day full of surprises!!”

But the fashionista decided to tell Jessie two weeks ago to, erm, scoot off for good after realising that the wheels have now permanently come off their romance.

A spokesman for Fearne said: “Sadly their relationship came to a mutual end last month. There is no one else involved.”

A close friend of the couple told me: “It just wasn’t meant to be. The same problems that were there before were still there and once the ring was on Fearne’s finger she realised it wasn’t going to last. She’s very sad about it but they are going to try to remain friends.” I hear that Jesse has now moved out of Fearne’s South-West London home and joins a list of ex’s including ladies’ man Steve Jones and The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard.

It’s a real shame that they couldn’t make it work, especially as Fearne’s never made a secret of her desire to walk down the aisle and have children like best pal Holly Willoughby.

“Having a family of my own is really important, more than anything,” she said.

“It’s about finding a life partner who’s your best friend. What’s the point of doing great things at work if you don’t have someone to share it with?”

Fearne’s a great girl, I’m sure she won’t be short of admirers when she feels ready to move on.

I have noticed at Chris hasn't been as strong in the flirting with Fearne in the handovers. Do you think that is a reason why?

Yep, I agree she won't be short of admirers, she's a pretty girl. About to turn 30 tho, that's when you start to feel the pressure of time to not end up an old maid, especially if you want kids.

See, I thought it was because she was believing his hype, and he didn't want her to get the wrong idea.

I've always taken it to be him having a laugh. Whereas especially during the marathon show she makes a big deal of it (I've got a treat for chris, I'm letting him take me for coffee, etc).

I presume thats why shes got the week off and Sara Cox is in for her. Radio 1 are very generous if she has a week off because of the break-up, especially since the ex is moving out as its her flat, I wonder if Dave had the option cause he never took time off and HE was the one moving out, I'm not having a go at her if your employers are that generous you not gonna say no are you. Wonder why Dave did'nt have that option, unless he did'nt want to.

Dave worked during his paternity leave and during the DOI tour apart from one day so I think it would take a lot for him to take take unscheduled time off. He has said a couple of times about needing the money as well.

Well its not like Chris didn't take a week off to get over a break up. So there's no point moaning about the fact that Fearne is doing it

If you experience the break up of a long term relationship, it's hard enough if you work in a "normal" job, but imagine having to talk on the radio for hours every day without getting upset. Then play "love songs" for hours. You could easily end up like this guy when his missus left:

Moaning !!! I never said I was moaning, the above never says that, not sure what you read to indicate that???. It was just a question regarding why Dave never had time off for something similar. And it was answered, he is freelance, I forgot about that, questioned answered thankyou.

Damn straight. It's something that should be celebrated.

Have as much time as you like, Fearne, love. It must be hard. Maybe emigrate?

I know it can't be easy for someone in the public eye (and with a job broadcasting to the public) like Fearne or Chris, but this is the second time I've ended up thinking "Why can't you just go to work and get on with things like the rest of us have to do?". Like Dave has - and that was the end of a marriage, with children involved.

But maybe I'm being unfair.

No, but there are def two ways of dealing with this kind of thing. Each has its pro's and con's. I'm in your camp, but I know others who wouldn't be.

I had three days off work when I broke up with my ex. I'm lucky that my boss is sympathetic when it comes to compassionate leave.

Oh God, if only. I didn't eat for those three days - and I'm the sort of person that eats when stressed or upset.

Sat and today are up
