Each week, me and my mates go to a pub quiz. Each week there is a question called "The Stinker". Each week, if I can, I shall post it here for you to peruse.

Please DO NOT post your answer here, it spoils it for others. PM it to me. The first person to PM the right answer wins.

To get the ball rolling, I'll post the last two weeks. Last weeks was easy:

What goes up a chimney down but cannot go down a chimney up?

This weeks was much more complicated. I'm proud to say that we were the ONLY team to get it right.

In this puzzle, each letter represents a different number. Can you work out what number (0-9) each letter stands for? The leftmost letter can not be zero in any word.

SERVE + SCORE = TENNIS

C= ?
E= ?
I= ?
N= ?
O= ?
R= ?
S= ?
T= ?
V= ?

I'll give you a slight hint on this - it was written down on our sheet as:

__SERVE
+ SCORE
_TENNIS

The slight clue being that TENNIS has one more letter than the other two words. Writing it down may help.

Good luck!

:lol:

I like having a post that's gone a full day without a reply.

Only two PMs as well. Dim Tim wins the first one but chickened out of the second one. Duck thought he had posted the winning answer to my facebook but he's wronger than a wrong 'un.

TOTALLYSUCCESSFUL!

I'll give it another couple of days. Only one correct answer from this board (I've got it posted elsewhere) and that was from "theflyingbadger". Mr / Mrs Badger also told me, in their first PM, that Kit KAt > Twix so I like them.

I can't do it. I bet Mr Yudster can though - I am going to email it to him and ask. I'll let you know what he comes up with Foots.

Edit:- He's going to look at it later - he said "It should be fairly simple". I have asked him to tell me how long it takes him once he starts - he's very good at this stuff, but I'm surprised Boboff can't get it so I expect it might be trickier than he is anticipating.

DOUBLE BOOM! :)
Tell you what, for a pub quiz question thats a belter. Took me 20 minutes with good ol' pen and paper, can't imagine attempting that during a pub quiz.
More likely to draw some sort of phallus in the answer box, get up off my arse and get another beer in.

Which was also my stance. I started, my head hurt, I decided wasn't best use of my working day and stopped.

Very seldom do I devote such time to anything of worth never mind a pub quiz question. The reason for the prolonged effort was down to me starting off quickly and then wanting to finish it off properly. Don't think the wife would appreciate where my concerted efforts are being directed.

Ok - Mr Yudster reckons he solved it in about 5 minutes - he said was easy once you knew where to start. I have PMd his answer to Foots, so Foots can let us know if he got it right.

Okey doke Bamber, this is what I think:

Edit: meant to PM that! Took me probably a couple of hours all in.

It sickens me to say this, but I have no doubt at all that he did. He is stupidly good at this sort of thing naturally, and what he does for a living keeps him in good practice for logic problems and number puzzles. No one has ever given him a sudoku that he couldn't do in no time either. Drives me up the bloody wall.

Meh, he's married. It comes from years of trying to figure women (you) out...... :D

I am methodical and generally logical - but also emotional and occasionally unstable. Mr Yudster has learned much in the last ten and a half years its true.
