That keeps happening to me too. The closest I've come so far is one who had a second hit that reached no37, so I'm not sure if that qualifies.

Mine definitely counts.

My choice was a US #1 and UK#4, follow up singles #31 & #38. I would've automatically assumed this to be a one hit wonder with a couple of jobby efforts afterwards. Hence my decision to use it. Top 10 is a Hit, Top 20 at a push but outwith that I don't see how that could be classed as a bona fide hit.

Well, the Hit Parade as it used to be called - spawning the term "Hit" - encompassed the top 100, but only ever focussed on the top 40.

I suppose if I were an musician and had an entry in the Top 40, I would lay claim to having had a hit record. I just feel in order to justify the term 'one hit wonder' the song must really have made an impression on the charts. Not charted at number 64, peaked at 29 and then disappeared into obscurity. That would be a one 'well done on making the charts now away with you' wonder.

I don't see the point in being too fussy about it. I think we all know what we mean by One Hit Wonder - ok so Chesney Hawkes had another hit, but who the hell remembers it?!

Oddly enough that's how the charts used to run, if you read the inside sleeves notes in the old Now albums from the 80's you'd get "entered the charts at 69 before climbing to number 21"

Apologies it's my fault I was trying to clarify more than anything else, what would have counted as a one hit wonder and was hoping John22 was going to say either way, unfortunately he didn't and a lot of confusion has been caused, for that I apologies

Poll is up, a few songs didn't make it in this week.

Stewaj3 didn't determine which choice he wanted to be his entry, so as ever none of them went in.

I didn't know which version of Brimful of Asha Sidders was trying to enter, but neither was a one-hit wonder. The Norman Cook one WAS a hit, but not his only hit, and the Cornershop one wasn't really a hit for them, and only became known due to the remix.

And the Chesney Hawkes one just wasn't a OHW.

WHAT??? How is Cornershop NOT a One Hit Wonder yet MC Hammer, The Wannadies, Scatman John, Eagle Eye Cherry all ARE?

OK so it was remixed by Norman Cook, but so what? It was released as a "Cornershop" single, not "Cornershop feat. Norman Cook" or "Cornershop vs. Fatboy Slim". The original version wasn't a hit, which is why I went for the remix, and OK, Cornershop did have 1 other top 40 hit, bit so did pretty much all of the other ones in that poll! MC Hammer had 4 other top 10 hits!!!!

True, it wasn't a Fatboy Slim track, it was merely produced by him. I'm not one to argue with John, but if we are going to include the producer in the calculation of whether the track is a hit or not, we might have to look at the whole lot again.

Chesney Hawkes should count too to be fair, it's famously known as a one hit wonder.

I'm boycotting this poll until it's sorted.

Well they got it wrong! C4 should have checked more thoroughly. A lot of people used to think the world was flat, but that doesn't mean it was.
