And even if you can't find how to report it, don't reply to it!

Words of wisdom here. By making my original post I found out how to report spam, albeit in a facetious and condescending manner. But by your reckoning, if I can't find how to report spam, I should never ask thereby NEVER knowing how to report it. Genius.

You'd think a forum with so few members and such a low level of posting activity would actually welcome newbies and maybe even try and help them. Clearly not.

Where as DD will sit on your face and let you fondle his plumage before spraying you with his special plum sauce.

*Edited as I had DD as a sprayer first then a sitter. My apologies as I'm sure he's not selfish and indeed a very considerate sprayer*

They can be as welcoming as a kick in the stanes... but I like that sort of thing. Ouchy

Oh for goodness' sake, it should be obvious on any forum to not reply to spam threads. Stop being so precious.

*** Whooooshhhhh ***

That was the sound of my point flying straight over your head.
- Spammer makes thread
- newbie asks where report function is
- newbie gets smartarse response
- newbie gets told not to reply to spammer by you
- you can't grasp the concept of irony by replying to a thread started by a spammer telling someone not to reply to a thread started by a spammer
- newbie reiterates how a simple response along the lines of, "there's a big exclamation mark, click that" would have resulted in a happy newbie and a spammer thread that received no more replies
- you can't let it lie and have to have a final word

I'd say that on a normal forum, not replying to a spam thread would usually result in it dropping off the front page fairly quickly thereby not giving said spammer any publicity. However, on here it's more a case of the thread dropping off the front page after a few weeks given the scant number of new threads so my proactive approach to alerting the forum owners was in the best interest of the forum.

Right. If we must do this:

- there is a site questions section where you can ask things like how to report spammers should you feel the need
- I'm here everyday, I would have seen and deleted the spam sooner or later
- I was trying to advise for future reference, not expecting you to turn back time and un-reply
- it's immaterial whether I replied to the thread anyway - it already had several replies by that time. No irony involved there
- if you can't handle the "smartarse replies", maybe you should assess whether you really want to be here
- I'm a moderator, I don't need to "have the final word".

Smartarse replies are a major feature of this site, always have been and I hope always will be. You have to have the capacity to laugh at yourself like everyone else is sometimes.

now hang on one second.... I'm all ok with the newbie abuse, but I think you are overstepping the mark of what is reasonable here Nic. i refer you to the mail you sent me/Ben/Bob a few weeks ago.

Maybe, if you can't handle the smart-arse replies, you should assess whether you really want to be here......? Works both ways missus.

I'm not saying you were wrong to mail us, but it aint one rule for one, another for all others.

Smartarse is not the same thing as personally explicit. I'll give you that I was feeling over-sensitive at the time I wrote that, but I think this is a whole different kettle of fish.

Sorry, my last post seems ill-timed. I never got a warning that other posts have been made.

Looks stupid.

They were smart-arse responses using ONLY information you had distributed yourself. The nature of them is immaterial.

I did say your weren't wrong to mail us. But, having a go at someone saying 'well if you don't like it maybe you could just feck off' is entirely missing the point.
